MUSHY-GUSHY
Love never fails.
1Corinthians 13:8a (NAS)
Having loving feelings is a wonderful thing! Don't you just love
those mushy-gushy feelings??!! I know I do! But what happens when
they aren't there? What do you do when you feel like you've gotten
into a rut in your marriage and you just don't 'feel' love toward
your spouse like you used to?
When feelings have diminished, don't despair! EVERY marriage,
including Christian marriages, go through periods of wavering
feelings because feelings are subject to change. But remember...
FEELINGS ARE NOT THE SAME AS LOVE. Love is a commitment, a decision,
and an act of your will. If love were simply a feeling, Jesus
wouldn't have said to love even your enemies!
During times when the feelings toward your officer are absent, you
can still CHOOSE to love him in words and actions. Your emotions
will eventually follow whatever you give yourself to on a regular
basis.
Look at the alcoholic, the chronic smoker, or the person who is
hooked on porn... they gave themselves over to their activities until
those activities became their love and their habit. What works for
negative habits also works for good ones.
Purpose to give yourself to your husband. Do special little things
for him that will make him feel loved. Tell him everyday that you
love him. Tell him how proud you are of him for being a cop. Focus
your whole heart on LOVING him through words and actions. Before you
know it, the feelings will follow!
PRAYER: Father, I ask that you would revive the love in LE
marriages! Strengthen their commitment to each other and restore the
loving feelings that have gotten stale. In Jesus' name, amen.
