HOW'S YOUR LOVE LIFE?
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight
in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."
(1Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV)
Instead of resolutions this year, I sensed God showing me a "theme"
for the year. A very basic, but powerful theme! LOVE!
When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus (in Matthew 22:36-
39) said it was to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. He
said that the entire law hinges on these two commands! So loving
God's way must be incredibly important and powerful!
Are you loving your husband in the way that God wants you to love
him? Turn to 1Corinthians 13 above for your guide. You'll find that
nowhere does it say that love is just a mushy good feeling. Instead,
the God kind of love is a choice, a decision, a commitment, and an
action!
You see ladies, if love were only a good feeling, no marriage could
survive! Especially in the law enforcement profession! It's a tough
profession to be married to! Love goes much deeper than feelings.
You CHOOSE to watch how you use your words when your hubby comes home
after a bad day on duty. You DECIDE not to be angry when he gets
called in on an emergency. You make a DECISION to stay faithful
during times when you're lonely and aren't able to see as much of
each other. You COMMIT to putting disagreements behind you when they
have been settled rather than bringing them up over and over again.
You PROTECT your marriage and your husband by not speaking ill of
him. Your ACTIONS are kind and patient and not self-seeking.
Of course there's a place for warm feelings in love! And those
feelings are pleasant and comforting and necessary! Just don't allow
negative feelings to control your marital decisions or how you act!
Love the God way, whether you feel like it or not!
PRAYER: Father, help these ladies to make the DECISION to love their
husbands in the God kind of way! Help their CHOICES and ACTIONS to
convey their love! In Jesus' name, amen.
