Homeschoolers Threaten Our Cultural Comfort By Sonny Scott
(Viewpoints)
You see them at the grocery, or in a discount store.
It's a big family by today's standards - "just like stair steps," as the
old folks say. Freshly scrubbed boys with neatly trimmed hair and girls
with braids, in clean but unfashionable clothes follow mom through the
store as she fills her no-frills shopping list. Read more...

Homeschool Experience:Dump Truck Days By Jennifer Fink
For three days, my nine-year old son has been dragging himself around
the house in a toy dump truck. He kneels in the dumper, hunches forward
and uses his knuckles to propel himself. For three days. Around and
around. Over and over. Three days, and it's driving me crazy! Read more ...

Homeschooling: Parents Must Decide by Shirley M.R. Minster, MS. Ed.
Wherever parents send their children is where the children will assume
it's best for them to be. Parents who do not take the time to think
through the type of educational program they want for their children
miss out on an integral decision for their children. Read more ...

When it comes to social networking, we're all homeschoolers
by Lisa Hoover (Computer World Blogs)
Ironically, as a homeschooling mother of three boys scarcely a day goes
by that I don't see a reference to how homeschooled children are at risk
for becoming socially disadvantaged because they aren't in a formal
school setting with their peers. Fair enough but, as parents of
homeschoolers often point out, our kids have a whole buffet of social
opportunities to choose from that teach them how to interact with
others. Read more...

Stop the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Treaty
The CRC gives this Committee an unlimited mandate to dictate the affairs
of a nation regarding child rearing. The Committee's reach will extend
into demanding changes to a country's legal system, education system,
and social-welfare institutions in order to bring the country's laws
into compliance with the Convention. Read more...

UN Treaty Jeopardizes Homeschool Freedom in Britain
Contact: Rebekah Pizana, ParentalRights.org, 540-751-1200
MEDIA ADVISORY, June 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- British homeschoolers
may no longer be able to teach independently. Children's Secretary of
Britain accepted a report in full last week that could change the face
of homeschooling in Britain indefinitely. In the report, the author,
Graham Badman, Chair of the British Educational Communications and
Technology Agency (BECTA), argues for an end to homeschool freedom.
"While it's disgraceful that the British government would even entertain
this report it's particularly troubling for American parents because the
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was used as
the justification for this action," Read more...

Homeschoolers, What Does Success Mean To You? by Judy Aron
David Brooks, senior editor of The Weekly Standard, once posed this
question: "If your kid was accepted at Harvard, but you secretly thought
he or she would be happier at Bennington, would you have the guts to
turn Harvard down?" This to me is a really intriguing question, as it
highlights the very reasons why we homeschool. Read more...

What Kind of Homeschooler Are You? by Barbara Frank
It's interesting how people categorize themselves. When I began
homeschooling, there were homeschoolers. Before long, they morphed into
two groups: Christian homeschoolers and secular homeschoolers. Over the
years we've seen a transition into homeschoolers defining themselves by
their method of homeschooling: traditional, unschooler, Charlotte Mason
method, etc. Read more...

By the Cover: Finding Books Your Child Will Read
When Apple introduced the first iMac computer, I bought one. I had no
idea how much disk space it came with, or how much RAM it had. Frankly,
I didn't care. It was small and blue; I loved it for that. Let's face it
appearances sell. And when it comes to young readers, the same is true
for books. Read more...

Book Corner
Midnight Rider for the Morning Star by Mark Alan Leslie is the
remarkable story of Francis Asbury. The first chapter begins in Maine
when Asbury is galloping for his life over the Scarborough marshes. This
is a true story of high adventure about a man who traveled mainly by
horseback from Quebec to Georgia spreading the gospel wherever he went.
