Tried it but its only taking in the home page despite me putting 10 into max
depth in preferences.

Have you used it much?

Does it struggle on modern webpages like with php generated links?

Maybe it only work son html links rather than generated links like php?

Hello Paul
Unfortunately, it requires a PC-configured conduit to convert the html
content. (My sony clié is hooked up to my 1200T's usb port) So for HTML on
my PDA, I use PalmFiction
(http://www.freewarepalm.com/docs/palmfiction.shtml) or TealWeb
(http://www.freewarepalm.com/communication/tealweb.shtml) Between this, and
the hotsync funtionality in the poseidan USB stack + some clever AREXX
scripting, I can synchronize a list of webpages I might wish to peruse
while on the go.

I think Plucker may do the job:

http://www.plkr.org/

"Plucker is an offline Web and free eBook reader for Palm OS® based
handheld devices, Windows Mobile (PocketPC) devices and other handheld
PDAs"
...
"content can be created for Plucker from many sources, including RSS,
RDF, text files, HTML, PDF, and many other file formats."

I've used Plucker on my old Windows Mobile iPAQ in the past.

I dont tend to use the amiga that much now apart from email now since it doesnt
have the apps i require nowadays.

I might get an up to date machine eventually but it still needs a few more
improvements on the software side. Unless i use rdesktop to a low powerered pc
for the odd thing it doesnt have. Then at least i can have a decent os.

Yes, thats quite handy. I have AMRSS set up for amiga.org, I'll probably
get Abime put on there one of these days, too.

Totally agree. However, I found something out recently.

Sites that use 'vbulletin' allow you to retrieve messages via a RSS feed.
Here's an example site that uses vbulletin: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/

You can use a RSS reader application to subscribe to the forums you're
interested in.

For example, I subscribe to this feed, using Thunderbird:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/external.php?type=rss&forumids=23,25,15,26,40,2\
78

These are all the Dreamcast forums.
You can find the forum id number from the URL of the forum.

Now if only I could do the same with PHPBB...

A forum <=> newsgroup gateway would be cool.
World Of Spectrum already has one at news.zxdemo.org.

Hello martin
There's always Netsurf for 68K, it does a pretty good job rendering
CSS-formatted pages, and I believe even has an inline video decoder (for
youtube and stuff), though its painful even on a 68060. Merlin also does
CSS stuff, but is still experimental at best, and is even slower. (It seems
to use datatypes for decoding)

I would agree. Trouble is Yahoo started this free for all question
and answers thing which creates Google search results on tech
issues populated with loads of worthless waffle. Not specialised
as with the Groups. I have really struggled of late to get any serious
answers from issues on the Internet cus of these Blog Forum chat
sites. All sites offer chat and that chat gets picked up by the
crawlers, and most of it , like this post :-) is utter twaddle.

If you know what I mean.

Not too long ago I would Google info on computer systems and
get the old style text based group mail threads, like on Newsgroups
which were liquid gold full of information. Now its all avatars and
kids and insults about rubbish ...

Nahh nothing like carrying my groups email round with me on my Palm TX using
wifi hotspots out and about.

Websites are a bit shitty on mobiles including palm pre or iphone since they
dont even have something as basic as flash.

Although flash is coming to the pre and blackberry soon i believe.

Hi

Strikes me that Yahoo Groups seem a bit old hat now.
Dunno if they are anything like as popular as they were.
Maybe its just the Amiga world that I frequent is on a
low ebb...

Did you see that Wayne has moved over at Amiga Org.

I'm also conscious that most of my Amiga links on my
website no longer work cus the various sites are no
longer available.

[ Prods the old faithfull... Hello ]

I'm sure we still have Amigans living and breathing ....

Phew

Refused entry to Yahoo Groups. Stuck there for a mo with the
finger on the old zap button. Anyway, got in in the end. Seems
that everyone and there dog uses forum blogs now to complain
immediately if something isn`t working. The Internet just seems
to be a massive online chat forum full of people getting uptight
and angry about the slightest thing. Even getting angry about
not being able to log on and vent their anger on the forum they
normally get angry on.. :-)

No mind... [ still don`t understand what a twitter is .. explain again ]

Sounds like you had a horrible morning. I have only ever used IE for a few days
before downloading Firefox. I'm still on Firefox 2 and have no plans for
upgrading :)
I was going to upgrade to AVG 9 (still have 8, greyed out and unupdated for
months), but will leave that now. I'll just download the latest info for Spybot
S&D and scan my laptop with that instead (it's been months since the last scan).

As for the Amiga, I was going through ASM sourcecode for AMOS extensions
yesterday. The guys at the AMOS Factory wanted the differences between the AMOS:
The Creator and AMOS Pro extensions documented so they could (attempt to)
convert AMOS only extensions to AMOS Pro. I told them it would be tough and now
they can see why.
Sorry, wandered off my point. Going through the ASM code made me hungry for
programming again. I have spent the last few weeks trying to catch up on emails
and YouTube videos... I am getting there, slowly.

a framed document with a left navigation frame, a right content

pane and a lower more useful image browsing shortcut frame.

Not happening with Explorer 8. Nothing can be shown and the

30 minutes later surfing for answers and found nothing. If anyone

Oh and while I'm on, the only other machine I have with XP fell

If the auto update hasn`t finished its 'optimising' , and the machine

Dunno why. I'm no expert. I'm just getting good at hurling tin

productive but certainly very satisfying.

I would laugh (ok, I did laugh), but I had the same problem around 4pm today.
Sat in my bedroom with just the light from the laptop screen lighting the room
up a little. Whilst waiting for a 24MB video to download (at dial-up speed -
5KB/sec) I kept drifting off the phantasy land every few minutes.
I felt much better after I had had something to eat. Still yawning and sleepy
now though. With it getting dark around 4pm I'm finding it hard to stay awake :(

It's 4x 320x256. i.e. the Amiga's PAL resolution. Perfect for emulation :-)

1280x1024 is in a ratio of 5:4.

On the other hand, 1280x960 is 4:3, same as 1920x1440, 1600x1200,
1152x864, 800x600, 640x480, 320x240 ... (all those "classic" resolutions)

This makes 1280x1024 a bit of an oddball among non-widescreen
resolutions, and I'm really not sure why it became standard. In fact,
I'm not aware of any other widely used 5:4 resolutions off the top of my
head. So, if you run 1280x1024 on a standard-aspect display, you get
non-square pixels. The different is relatively subtle, though -- less
noticeable than the significantly non-square pixels of the Amiga's old
640x400 (for NTSC at least).

I've often wondered if LCD panels that run 1280x1024 natively are
actually built to 5:4 dimensions, instead of 4:3 like other
non-widescreen panels, so the pixels'll come out properly square...

But yeah, if you run 1280x1024 on a regular CRT, your pixels will be
squished vertically just a little bit.

I run my 19" iiyama crt at 1280x 1024 and i thought that was the correct ratio
rather than 960.

The cvppc on the a4000 is at 1152x800

So glad to hear somebody else say this! This has driven me nuts for
years. I remember when I was working at the IT Support HelpDesk back in
college, and they had the old first-gen 15" iMacs, everybody else
insisted on running them at 1024x768 (which is fine on a 15" LCD, but
*not* fine on a 15" CRT). The first thing I'd do whenever I sat down was
set it back to 640x480 or 800x600. Co-workers thought something was
wrong with me (or my eyes), but neither is the case; I just like things
clear and crisp.

When I had a 21" CRT at a subsequent employer, I ran it at a comfortable
1280x960 while everybody else was pushing 1600x1200 or 1920x1440.
(Speaking of which, why was 1280x1024 always so common when 1280x960 is
the correct 4:3 ratio?)

Nowadays I run a 27" LCD at 1920x1200, with a beautifully large dot
pitch of 0.303. It's stunning to me that there are laptops now which run
the same 1920x1200 on 17" displays. I realize OSes are getting better at
scaling up DPI to get large images at higher resolutions, and the future
is probably towards "infinitely" small pixels, but somehow I like the
crisp, sharp lines of clearly defined pixels. (Whenever I install
Windows, one of the first things I do is turn *off* font antialiasing.)
I feel I'm the last of a dying breed.

       Hello Andrew

I hear that. Though most the computers here now use 1024x768, ironically

the Amiga is the only one that uses higher. (1152x864) Granted, I only do

this because of the graphics work, and when I do html stuff I like having

Ibrowse @ 1024x768 with some screen space around the edges to work on other

things. The biggest thing I miss with Windows are some of the more advanced

features, the scripting possibilities are endless. I have a script that

takes all the .jpg files in a directory, strips the .exif thumbnail, and

saves it as a .png file with a .info ending. (Creating a power icon) it

then converts the icon into a project with my favorite picture viewer as

the default tool. All of this because of the lformat functionality in the

C= LIST command! (This is useful for when I download the pics off my

camera) I'm now batch converting a bunch of winamp skins (.bmp format) into

Amplifier skins (in .iff), as the datatypes take too long to load. This

required a script that can write a script and execute it repeatedly, which

its doing now as I'm typing my E-mail, and pondering which mod I want to

listen to after reading your last message. :D The same procedure is useful

for when I log online and my fileserver mounts, and windows has dumped crap

into it. EG.

SMBFS volume="photos" workgroup="WEBBNET" service="//tux/ disk-1"

list Photos:#? all p thumbs.db lformat "delete %P%N force" >t:delwincrap

execute t:delwincrap

Then the wifes computer slows down as windows has to rebuild its stupid

thumbnails database. (Luckily, she hasn't deleted the .info files the first

script I mentioned spits out)
