I am sorry I was not physically able to make the meeting this evening.

I wanted to give you the information that Mark wanted everyone to have. Please get this information out to your units.

Office Relocation:
The scout service center will close at 5pm on Friday Dec 19th. and reopen on Jan. 6th at 8am at our new location. The Hamilton Headquarters. 10455 W. 6th Ave. suite 100, Denver 80215. The scout shop will close on Sat. Dec. 20th at 3pm and reopen  on Monday January 12th. Please know that they have been letting their stock deplete for their move. If anyone needs anything for Jan advancement etc. might want to call first to see if they have stock. They may want to try scoutstuff.org for anything that they are missing. Our professionals will be working from home in the interim.

CRP:
The new name of this program will be the USA-Unit Success Award. We will be having a CQU/CRP night on December 10th at the Village Inn at Holly and Arapahoe for anyone not at RT this evening. CQU's HAVE to be turned in by that time. CRP's will be done at this time as well. Please plan on attending the 10th at Village Inn so we can get our units completed. We will have PIE!!! CRP's are due no later than the January 8th RT.

RECHARTER:

Jan 8th RT will be the recharter night. Feb 1st is the new due dates for the recharters. Drop dead by Feb 15th, but we do not want to necessarily announce that. We will have drop off sites available within the district in Jan. Please remind your units that SCOUTMASTER and CUBMASTERS only are to sign the recharters. CC do not count. Your units should be making an appt with their Executive Officer and make a plan to get their signatures before the due date. Unless units specifically asked for a hard copy, it will all be done online. Units should have had a card mailed to them with their units codes for recharter on them.

COMMISSIONER COLLEGE:

Mark would like us all to add the date of Jan 24th to our calendar for Commissioner College. Registration is available online. It will be at our RT location from 8-4.

DISTRICT DINNER:

The district dinner will be March 21 with a Superheroes theme. Please advise all your units to start nominating their outstanding scouters and get those registrations in. Also, nominations for the Spirit of Polaris and District Award of Merit. The requirements for these awards is volunteers who have been doing wonderful things in their units and have started to do things for the District and or Council (SOP). Good Morning Scout Fans!!!

It is that time of year again, and I am hoping you will get this information out to all your units as well as for yourself.

For those of you that have NOT had the wonderful opportunity to take Woodbadge, there are 3 courses offered this year. Scholarships ARE available, so please do not feel that money is an issue for not taking this wonderful training course.
Woodbadge is a Steven Covey inspired training course that deals with scouting, your business and yourself! You will learn many things about all of them and it is FUN!!!!

Here are the dates for this years' courses.

March 6-8 and 20-22- at PV.  (course number WE5-61-1-09)

August 10-15 at Tahosa (yours truly is on staff for this course, and for our SN District, so are Joe, Randy and Mike)  (W5-61-1-09)

September 24-26 and October 8-10 at Tahosa  (WE5-61-2-09)

The cost is $225, but again, scholarships ARE available!!!

Anyone over the age of 18 and a registered scouter is welcome to take this course. This is the first year in many that a week long course is being offered as well.
Here is when fees and paperwork are due. A deposit of $50 is due with your application.

Feb 6th, for the March course.
June 29th for the August course.
August 13th for the September course.

PLEASE pass this on to all your unit leaders as well. I can't say enough how wonderful this course is and how much I learned about myself, my life and my volunteering. Plus, it was so much FUN!!!

I hope those of you that are on the fence about taking Woodbadge will join us and see what all the fun is about. Even if you aren't on the fence, COME and join us!!! You will NOT be disappointed!

Thank you for your time and attention to this email.

Stay up to date on the latest news - from sports scores to stocks and so much more.

Dear Douglas County School District Facility User,

The Douglas County School District views its taxpayer supported facilities as a community asset.  It is our intent to make school facilities available for public use to the greatest extent possible without interfering with our primary mission – the education of our children.  We value the partnership between the District and groups like yours that use our facilities to support community and youth-oriented activities.  We offer well-maintained facilities, and you offer valuable activities.
Rental fees for District facilities have not changed in over four years.  During that time, utility rates and operating costs have increased significantly.  This past November, Douglas County School District failed to pass both bond and budget override elections. This shortfall has placed unusual fiscal pressures on the District.  In order to continue to provide the best service possible, we find it necessary to raise school facility rental use rates.  Analysis of facility rental rates charged by five other Front Range school districts reveal that Douglas County School District’s new rental fees are reasonable and in line with the Denver area market.
New facility use rates are attached and will become effective March 1st, 2009.  All schedule requests for Douglas County School District facility use received after March 1st, 2009 will be subject to the new fee structure.  Those organizations that have already secured facility rentals in advance of this notice will not incur increased rates until the new school year starts in July 2009.
We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you in the future.

Thank you,
242009_120516_0.jpg
Dr. Steven Herzog
Chief Operating Officer

I wanted to get this information out to all of you, I just found out myself.

Gary Williams, originally the Webelo leader of P783 and then went on to start T783 was killed on Sunday piloting a small plane. I have known Gary for 10 years and he was a great man. Always there for the boys and put on a great program for them.
He is survived by his wife Pat, and his 2 sons. Both are in college. He helped his son Nick earn his Eagle rank a few years ago.
Below is the information for his service.

Please say a prayer for the family and keep them in our hearts.

In Sadness,
Karen Mansfield

Hi,

Gary's funeral is at 11:00 AM on Friday.

Greenwood Community Church

5600 E. Belleview Ave (Corner of Belleview and Holy)

Greenwood, Village

The Scouts who will be attending have decided to wear their Scout Shirts.

There is a Gary D. Williams memorial fund set up through the Rotary club. There will be envelopes at the Church on Friday for these donations. Checks need to be made out to a specific name. Something like "Gary D Williams Memorial fund in care of the Rotary club". But rather than getting it wrong I'd ask that you just refer to the envelopes. I'll grab some extra envelopes for anyone who is interested and can't make it Friday.

Anyone who didn't get to sign the flag box last night, please feel free to stop by my house tonight or tomorrow night after 7:00.

And lastly, Cindy Sharp is trying to get permission to fly the Troop flag at Rock Canyon. If so, we need Scouts for a flag ceremony Thursday morning before school and to retire it after school. I'll send a follow-up email when this is approved.

Joey,

The picnic is scheduled July 19 from 2pm to 6pm at Haney Park in the Roxborough Park community.  The address is 6237 Roxborough Dr, Littleton, CO‎.  It would be nice to have a "hidden" signup just for Committee members and Commissioners on the District web page.  Is that possible?

Sorry Karen, I didn't have a computer when you wrote this.  We just got one upgraded, so we were without internet all weekend.  I gave the handouts I got to John at our ASM meeting on Sunday.  He might still have them.

Just an FYI for those of you that this issue affects. Thank you! Cyndi Fyke

Hi Cyndi:

Please pass this message to other Scout Leaders, and friends who think Scouting is important and think that we should be allowed to distribute recruiting literature in “Thursday Folders” and at Back to School Nights and at Parent-Teacher Meetings.

The following candidates support Scouting:

Doug Benevento, John Carson, Dan Gerken, Meghann Silverthorn

All of these candidates need your support, campaign contributions, and vote.

Thanks for your help.

Who said it was too late to attend National Jamboree??? Please make sure this information gets out to your units.

National Jamboree will take place on July 26-Aug 4th 2010. Troop 911 has 8 open spots for youth. It is located in Highlands Ranch. The meetings take place the last Sunday of every month at St Lukes Church off of Broadway and Highlands Ranch Parkway at 1pm. I encourage your scout to attend this Sunday if they are interested.

Here is what you will need to know. The troop will tour East Coast historical sites for 6-8 days prior to the start of Jamboree and then will join the Jamboree for 10 days. Boys must be 1st class and 12 years of age by July 1 2010 but not be 18 by Aug 4th, 2010. The event will cost $2500. This includes ALL airfare, food and the tour prior to Jamboree as well as the Jamboree itself. Fundraising opportunities are available and the scout can earn the entire cost if he so wishes to participate.

This is the 100th year of Scouting and the last time Jamboree will be held at Fort AP Hill in Virginia. It will be an experience to remember and the boys will have a lot of different activities to choose from while at Jamboree. They will also be a part of history and meet scouters from around the country. Rock Climbing, canoeing, orienteering and many other activities are planned.

If you are interested, please go the the Denver Area Council website and search for National Jamboree. Once there, please click on the troop 911 link to sign up at our Council. You will then need to sign up at Scouting.org with your son's membership number. That will be on their blue membership card that they should have received. If you do not have that number, please call the Scout Office at 303-455-5544 and they should be able to get it for you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me. This is going to be a once in a lifetime event! If your son is nearing 15, this will be his last chance to attend as a scout. There is no obligation to come to the meeting this Sunday and check it out and meet the Scoutmasters and other troop members.

YIS,
Karen Mansfield

I apologize, I gave incorrect information on my last email regarding signing up for National Jamboree. Here is the correct information. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

The Denver Area Counci will be sending eight (8) troops to the 2010 National Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, VA. Space is still available to attend this once in a lifetime event.  To register for the event, follow these steps:

1)  Sign in to the National website at MyScouting.org (You can create an account if you do not already have one.)

2)  Under "Events" in the left column menu, select "Event Registration"

3)  Select "National Scout Jamboree"

4)  Select "2010 National Scout Jamboree Youth Participant Application", and following the instructions to fill out the form.

This registration process does not guarantee a spot in a local Contingent Troop.  Currently, there is space available.  If you have further questions, or would like to join a specific Jamboree Troop, then please contact a member of 2010 National Jamboree Committee:

You can also visit www.bsajamboree.org for more information from the National Jamboree website.

For families that think they may qualify and don't expect to generate enough fundraising to offset the necessary cost of attending the Jamboree, you can apply for a scholarship.  Unfortunately, we need to have applications in to us by the end of this week.

** Please contact Steve King (720-313-2596) or Jeff Hartig (303-471-6979) ASAP if you would like to submit a scholarship application.

Hi Exploring Advisors,

I hope that this email finds you well and enjoying the Fall.

We are partnering with Chili’s in Lakewood to do a giveback night to the Exploring Program.  On Monday, October 19th, anybody that eats at Chili’s in Lakewood and brings in the attached flyer will help the Exploring Program to receive 10% of the stores net proceeds for the day.

Our Exploring Board will be there that night at 6 pm and would love to meet any Advisors and Explorers who can come down and help us celebrate and support the Exploring Program.

That night is Monday Night Football, the Broncos are playing at the San Diego Chargers, so we thought that we would show some Bronco Spirit and TWO BRONCO CHEERLEADERS will be at Chili’s from 6 pm to 8 pm to take pictures and sign autographs.   Yes, you are reading the above print right…Bronco Cheerleaders.  Kick back, watch the game, and get your picture taken.  It will be like you are there in person J

Please help us to pack the Chili’s in Lakewood that day/night with Friends, Family, Advisors (family is included), and Explorers.  Kathy and I will be there that night and look forward to visiting with everyone and catching up.

Some of the Logistics:

·         The Flyer MUST BE brought with you and given to the waiter in order to get credit for the order

o   This is an all day event, the flyer can be used for lunch or dinner or both (cheerleaders will only be there at dinner time, 6 pm to 8 pm)

·         This is only happening at Chili’s Lakewood

o   88 Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226

·         The Date:

o   Monday, October 19, 2009

·        There will be TWO BRONCO CHEERLEADERS there to sign autographs and take pictures from 6 pm to 8 pm, please bring your camera.

We hope to see you all there and thank you for all of the great support that you provide to the Exploring Program.

Kathy and Charlotte

Please take a moment and watch this video, I think it will give everyone a chance to see what the Denver Area Council is trying to accomplish.
I enjoy working with all of you so much, but you will see after watching this video, why I work so hard for the Special Needs District and watch the boys I work with grow! Dang, I LOVE my job!!
YES WE CAN!
God Bless.

Ability Awareness - I'm Tyler

I just had the opportunity to experience an incredibly motivating and inspiring presentation by Tyler of Waterloo, Iowa.

Tyler was discussing the need to engage in Ability Awareness. Ability Awareness involves "recognizing what a person, any person, CAN do is much more important than what he/she can't. Many people have disabilities, of some sort, to difering degrees. But much more importantly EVERYONE HAS ABILITIES."

Tyler is a sophomore at Hawkeye Community College. He has a yellow belt in karate. He was in his Waterloo West High School's marching band. Tyler played a lead role in the Waterloo Community Theater. Tyler is an active young man . . . and Tyler has cerebral palsy.

Tyler is a person who doesn't discuss what he can't do. He concentrates on what he CAN do. Tyler earned his eagle scout and created the 7-minute video, I'm Tyler, as his eagle project (click here or on the image above to watch this video.) He and his family distribute DVDs of this video. They have shipped over 6500 DVDs. They don't actively market the video, but they have had requests from all 50 states and over 20 countries and US territories. This is a message that needs to be shared.

Tyler has been honored by receiving the National CEC "Yes, I Can" award; UCC National Disabilities Minstry Award and the Iowa CASE "Tyler Student Achievement Award" scholarship. He has spoken at conferences across the country. This is a message that needs to be shared. Visit his website!

"Ability Awareness is looking past the disabilities to the Abilities. It's Acknowledging Challenges, not obstacles, and find the accommoddations to conquer them. It working as a Team to reach a Common Goal . . . SUCCESS!!!"

Tyler has a dream . . . to change the world and the way it interacts with people with disabilities . . . to the world of CAN.
