The Baby B's (By Dr. Sears)

1. Birthbonding- Allowing the family to bond after the birth of a child

2. Breastfeeding

3. Babywearing- Wearing baby in a sling or other soft carrier

4. Bedding Close to Baby- co-sleeping (either in the same bed or the same room)

5. Belief in the Languge Value of your Baby's Cry- A crying baby is a baby trying to get his needs met, his cries are not manipulative

6. Beware of Baby Trainers- Following your own wise instincts to raise your child

7. Balance- Being appropriatly responsive to your baby

Dr. Sears describes attachment parenting (also known as “AP”) as “one of the oldest ways of caring for babies. In fact, it's the way that parents for centuries have taken care of babies, until childcare advisors came on the scene and led parents to follow books instead of their babies. Picture your family on a deserted island and you've just delivered a baby. There are no books, advisors, or in-laws around to shower you with baby-tending advice. The baby B's of attachment parenting would come naturally to you as they have other cultures who have centuries more child-rearing experience and tradition than all of us have.”
