I recently came arrived to Albuquerque and discovered the nearest rock
climbing gym is WAY OUT THERE. Is there somebody in Downtown or Rio
Rancho who would like to share or build a wall to practice? Thank you

Stone Age is right in between those two places, kinda, in the middle
of town.

Hello All,

I have recently become the New Mexico administrator of a new website,
www.mountainworks.com. Please, take a look, and feel free to
contribute. I am by no means an expert on the amount of climbing
around new Mexico, there is just too much of it. But, check it out, I
think that you will find this site, overall, very good!

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Thought I'd give an intro. I'm an aid/trad/alpine climber that
frequents the Organs and the Franklins near Las Cruces. I've done my
share of bouldering at Hueco. Always looking for climbing partners to
show me something new. If you happen to be around my area and want to
climb please send me a e-mail and I'll help you with directions or
routes to the best of my knowledge.

Hello pindrvr75,

If you are looking for a partner, another source is to look at www.mountainproject.com in the partner finder. There is a guy named Aaron Hobson that has been posting routes from your area and you might be able to hook up with him!

Peace,

Tony

Hi I thought I would introduce my self. My name is Allix and I am
moving to Albuquerque March 28 from St.Louis. I am moving to finish
school but mainly I am just sick of St.Louis. I have always dreamed of
living some where there are mountains ever since I spent a summer in
Colorado climbing. Not that good yet but I plan on joining Stone Age
to climb as much as I can. I would love to meet up with someone to
show me around town and help me with my climbing.

Hey Allix,

I don't live in Albuquerque..I'm by Las Cruces, about 3 hrs south off I-10. Never been to a climbing gym in my life. If you're thinking about climbing real rock and don't mind a drive, maybe we can do some climbing sometime.

You will meet a lot of people at Stone Age for sure.  There are many climbing areas around ABQ.  If you go down to Socorro (about an hour South) I can show you around sometime.  While you are in ABQ you should definitely try to get to the Enchanted Tower near Datil, the Gemstone area in the Sandias, Wheeler Peak near Taos, and Hueco Tanks near El Paso.

schedule is open, mainly looking to get out for a few hours in the AM

Mostly looking to just get out and back in shape so all abilities
welcome. Otherwise looking to lead up to 5.8+trad/5.9+sport and
toprope/follow harder stuff.

My husband, son, dog and I just move here to Los ALamos from Fort
Collins Colorado. We mostly enjoy bouldering in the V4 to V6 range
(o.k. so we are out of shape right now but it won't take long right?)
We also do some sport climbing as long as the routes aren't too long!
( up to 5.12) We haven't climbed much since before x-mas so I know we
won't be pulling down that hard very soon, but we would love to meet
some people to climb with and find some more areas to climb at. We are
planning on hitting the Dungeon this afternoon and camping near
Ponderosa next weekend if anyone is interested!

If V4 to V6 is considered "out of shape", there is a major part of the climbing population that is draggin' pretty bad out there! Come on people, get your buts into shape!

Sorry, to clarify, V4 to V6 is the "in shape" range we are hoping to achieve again before summer has come and gone again :)

Hullo, all! Just joined this group and thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm relatively new to climbing but I love it. I'm in Albuquerque and I
go to Stone Age about three times a week with a buddy of mine. I
highly recommend Stone Age; it is a great place to work on your
strength and technique.

Drop me a note if you'd like to go climbing sometime.

There are brief beta on ponderosa here:
http://infohost.nmt.edu/~bob/boulder_guide/pondo_map.gif

and here:
http://www.climbstoneage.com/

Normally I'd be heading there too but Saturday is the Shredfest at UMound and then Sunday we are heading to new stuff at Monster Island (near Pie Town).

I would recommend going past the Pond and up to the higher stuff as the rock is generally better and the area is more scenic.  The whole area has a lot of unclimbed good rock, and huge amounts of worthless choss, so if you like to explore you'll have a great time.  If you like mostly established problems, then go to the Pond and you'll have more than enough to keep you busy in a decent concentration.

Enjoy,
-Bob.

Head to the Enchanted Tower near Datil, it's quite a drive from ABQ but lots of well-bolted sport routes.

You might try New Canyon near Mountainair too, lots of short Sport/TR climbs in that range.

We climb all over Independence Pass over 700 routes plus bouldering
and on the East Side of the pass as well, toward Buena Vista (where
we climb). We also climb in Glenwood Springs at the Pukes, Rifle,
etc... Climbing is an almost every day thing... So, just about
anywhere there is climbing - we are there, or will get there! ha ha!

Thanks so much for telling me about the shredfest. I got the top women's spot in the comp! It was fun to get bouldering again since we have been doing mostly sport climbing lately.
We are headed to Taos this weekend because our friends have access to a nice condo and there seems to be a lot of bouldering up there. Are there any areas you would recomend over others? any favorite problems?
Thanks!

Hello, all!

My name is Beverly. I am a senior at UNM and I'm looking for a
partner to climb with 1-2x a month on the weekend or possibly Fri.
nights at Stone Age. I have some climbing experience with an indoor
gym I used to climb at in my home state of Michigan. But I haven't
been climbing in the 2.5 years I've been here. I just LOVE the
experience of it, though, and I'm anxious to get back into it and
develop my skills. So if anyone is interested, the best way to
contact me is at superbev_2004@....

Thanks!
