Does anyone have a record of the Clapp Cemetery Burials. That is to say a
survey of the Cemetery or official record identifying those buried and plot
locations in the Clapp Cemetery?
My Great Grand Parents obituaries indicate their burials at Clapp Cemetery they
are A.P and Elizabeth Lawhorn-Watley (Whatley)
I am thinking there must be an original record of burials somewhere. Is there a
record of the Clapp Cemetery creation, record of land purchase, stated purpose,
etc. Do we know if anyone is an appointed Official overseer of the property?
Who does the land belong to today?
My e-mail is jlorendorff@...
Thanks everyone! Janet
Many of us who have relatives buried there have been searching, but try
searching this forum/group. Lists have been posted of the buried in the Clapp
Cemetery that have been gleaned from newspapers and such.

Janet,
The cemetery was orginally 23 +/- acres. According to Georgia Power it's now
less than 2. Seems they didn't know it was a cemetery there. Yet in the late
70's GA Power officals told a Water Work employee, they had move the tombstones
for historical preservation.
We have a list that has been compliled by obits and family history. It is no
where near completion. We would like to gain ownership of what's left of the
cemetery. Plans are to mark all the know graves as a grave - we have no way of
determing who would be in that grave so we can't place a tombstone. But we will
do some sort of plack with all the know names listed and a place for new finds.
We want to honor as many as we can that were buried there.
If you would like, I can send a list to your email address of the people we have
id'd.

Vietnam Wall
First click on a state. When it opens, scroll down to the city and the names
will appear. Then click on their names. It should show you picture of the
person, or at least their bio and medals.
This really is an amazing web site. Someone spent a lot of time and effort
to create it I hope that everyone who receives this appreciates what those who
served in Vietnam sacrificed for our country. The link below is a virtual wall
of all those lost during the Vietnam War with the names, bio's and other
information on our lost heroes.
Those who remember that time frame, or perhaps lost friends or family can
look them up on this site.
Pass the link on to others, as many knew wonderful people whose names are
listed.

Forwarding this post from the Spalding County list. If you aren't aware of
this new viewer, you may want to try it out. It does seem to be easier to
use then the original.
It's a good chance to check out all of the records that have been added if
you haven't looked lately. Great resources to link to for your researchers
and to use for indexing or transcribing for our sites.

For those of you who have been using the "old" viewer on the Georgia

Choose a collection and proceed to view records in a much better way than

Mike,
While the cemetery does need some looking after, there are many more Family
Cemeteries in Columbus that are in horrible shape. There are 57 family
cemeteries on Ft. Benning in 3 counties - Muscogee and Chattahoochee
Counties and Russell County in AL. Within the last couple years there have
been some groups of people who are trying to clean-up some of the old
cemeteries.
If you are interested, we can let you know when one of the groups has a
meeting.
Thank you,

Dear Kemis,
I am asking your help. On 07-03-2012 I received the
gamuscog-bounces@... email (which I subscribe to) there is a
message from kentuckygeno (Rachelle Stephens) regarding Georgia Ancestry
Package. I sent an email on 07-10-12 that I wanted to order it and got a
reply from kentuckygeno@... on 07-10-12 giving me the amount and
address of Rachelle Stephens 1776 S 1180W, Lexington, IN 47138. I mailed my
check ($14.45) on 07-11-12. I sent an email 07-26-12 stating I had NOT
received the CD. No reply to this. Today 07-30-12 I sent another email but
it has NOT been delivered. I went to the internet searching and found the
address is for Printing Xpress I called them at 812-794-2084 and the number
is not a working number. I am not concerned about my $14.45 (glad it was not
more) that I sent but the fact that evidently this is a sham. I wonder how
much money they received for the sham. To stop payment on my check (if not
paid) cost's much more than the amount of the check.
I know you are very busy but someone needs to know about this situation.
Thank you
Betty Currie (San Antonio, TX)

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced Thursday that his

At the proclamation signing today, Gov. Deal said he would keep the Archives
open. That's great news, but the job is not finished.
We need to keep writing to the governor to thank him for his announcement
and to hold him to his promise. Closing on Nov. 1 and reopening after the
legislative session is not an option, if we want to retain the seven
experienced employees who were terminated yesterday.
Thanks to all our Georgia CCs. Keep those letters flowing.

Gov. Nathan Deal and Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced today that the
state will restore $125,000 to Kemp's budget to keep the Georgia State
Archives open to Georgians for the remainder of the budget year.
The extra funding provides for Georgia State Archives to be open to the
public through June 30 of next year.
On July 1, the Georgia Archives will be transferred to University System of
Georgia, pending approval of the move by the General Assembly.
This transfer will include appropriations required for operation and assets
of the Georgia Archives. Additional staff will be provided by USG at that
time.
Deal and Kemp intend to find efficiencies by consolidating the Archives
under the University System of Georgia, just as the state has sought to do
with the library system.
Deal's budgetary commitment allows Georgia State Archives to maintain its
current access hours.
Great news. That would have been a real blow to public access to government
records.
Thanks, Paul Diffley

The original post came for the County Coordinators (CC) for GAGen. I
forwarded to every list that I am list admin for. Then through my personal
email - home and work. Then I went to Facebook included groups that I
belong to. Channel 9 News here had a segment about it. Seems several
stations throughout GA did also. One CC also has lists in FL. She sent the
message to her FL people. Next thing the message went throughout the US.
People were calling, emailing and writing about the closing. At one point
the phones were over loaded. One of the saving factors is there is a GA
state law that makes it illegal not to have a state Archives. That's why
they had to work with University of GA.
IMHO - most people don't realize how many people are very passionate about
researching their ancestors or any info as how to research.
