Awesome Newsoms,
This is a little earlier than Clapp Factory, but does anyone out there have any
information on Newsom's Fort, which was a Wilkes County militia fort in the
American Revolution (somewhere in present-day Warren County, I think)? I am
researching the Wilkes County forts and any information is appreciated.

Supersleuth Cynthia Nason is in Salt Lake City this week, and just
called with some CF discoveries, including the following burial
(previously unknown to me).  Mrs. C. M. D. SIMPSON was named as a
surviving daughter of Mrs. M. J. HINES, who was buried at CF in SEP
1899:

"MRS. R. A. SIMPSON DEAD:  Funeral Will Occur From the Late Residence
This Afternoon.

"Mrs. R. A. SIMPSON, the wife of Mr. C. M. D. SIMPSON, died at their
residence, No. 12 [?]Seventeenth street, at 3:20 [?] o'clock
yesterday morning, after an illness of four weeks of general
debility.  She was 50 years old on June 10th last.  Besides her grief-
stricken husband she is survived by five children.  They are:  Mrs.
Leila JONES, Miss Nellie SIMPSON, Mr. Clyde SIMPSON, and Masters
Thos. E. and Geo. E. SIMPSON, all of Columbus.  She was a member of
the Broad street M. E. church, and a consecrated Christian and died
in the full triumphs of the Christian religion.  She was a devoted
wife, a loving mother, and a kind neighbor.  The grief stricken
family have the profound sympathy of their wide circle of friends in
this and dispensation of an all-wise providence.  The funeral will
take place this afternoon from the house, at one o'clock, and will be
conducted by Rev. J. G. HARRISON [?].  The interment will be in
Clapp's Factory burying ground."

Among other things, Cynthia found a photograph in a Chicago newspaper
that evidently shows a row of tenement housing in the Clapp's Factory
village.  Go, Cynthia!  I'll  post more as I receive it. - jml

"Little Willie Pauline PRICE Dead.

"Willie Pauline, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus PRICE,
died at their residence in Wynnton at 11 o'clock Sunday night after
five days' illness of dysentery.  Had the little one lived until May
17th, she would have been 1 year old.  The funeral occurred at 1
o'clock yesterday morning [sic], conducted by Rev. C. T. CLARK.  The
interment was at Clapp's factory.  The parents have the profound
sympathy of their friends in their bereavement."

Perhaps kin to the infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. M. G. PRICE, who was

Twelfth and Thirteenth streets yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock.  The
funeral will take place from the home at 9:30 o'clock this morning, and
the remains will be taken to Clapp's Factory for interment."

that FamilySearch is making in getting records indexed and available online
that the 1850 Census now includes Georgia in the searchable index and the
1900 is also available to search and view the actual images - for FREE!!!

We had John Mallory Land, Cynthia Nason, Rosebird and myself.  That's 2 bag
holders, 1 sitter and 1 worker.  John bagged up 31 bags of shingles (1
pile).  That leaves at least 4 more piles of shingles and we can start doing
cutting back vines.

We set a table up on the Riverwalk with info available.  The weather was
great for cleaning.  Just wish we could get more help.  The Ledger didn't
print the press release.  I sent copies of an announcement to the government
channel and 4 TV stations for their "community" calendar.  Didn't see
anything on them either.  Oh well maybe next time.  Small steps.

As list admin I don't have a problem with posts that pertain to genealogy.
Some list admins will not allow any posts that doesn't specifically pertain
to that list and please don't have any fun.  As long as it's genealogy or
history related, I don't have a problem.

Just last week on another list someone was trying to find Civil War
documents and said they we pay for whatever we could help her find.  Some
Civil War info is hard to find.  I simply hope that maybe one person can
find a clue to the line they are working on.

I must apologize for having been out of touch recently and for the
lack of information regarding the upcoming dedication ceremony for
the Confederate markers.  I have not been well the last few months,

which I probably will not get to until after Feb. 15.  These include
the death notice for Ann WALK's aunt, Mattie Belle FAULK (we had the
wrong death date for her, and she did not drown in the river, but is
definitely buried at Clapp's Factory, according to the notice).  I
have a couple of other updates to the burial list, and I spoke with a
man named Norman Cobb who lived near the cemetery as a boy and
related some of his recollections to me.

I hope everyone is doing well, and I will post again as I am able.
