Below is an advertisement for the CD I am selling. I have been getting very good
reviews on it from families that are purchasing it. Sorry if the advertisement
sounds a little monty hall as I am not really a sales person. But the CD is a
great learning tool if you care to learn to speak to your baby or child before
meeting them. :o)*

So here goes... Waiting for that referral and want something worth while to do.
How about learning some simple phrases to help ease the transistion for your new
baby/child. *Chinese for the Adoptive Parent contains over 180 phrases that you
will want to learn. From simple questions about needs like "Are you hungry?" to
sharing feelings like "I love you" to identifying yourself, "We are your Mommy
and Daddy," This tape/CD has it all. Each comes with a printed sheet of what is
on the tape/CD with Romanized and Mandarin translations. Can you imagine
anything more comforting to your new baby during that transition time than to
hear you speak familiar phrases to them. Tapes are15.99 includingshipping and
handling, CD's are 20.99includes shipping and handling. To learn more go to the
website below.

HI. I am Bobbie Steve.I haveseven adopted children.Three adopted from
China.I created this CD to help adoptive parents learn to speak their new
child's motherlanguage they were used to hearing to comfort and console them
during the transition to their new language. I also created it as a way to raise
themoney I was short for my adoption. Now that myadoption is complete I am now
setting up a fund for grants and any monies earned above cost will go to help
other families adopt from China.Grant monieswill take some time to build up,
but my hope is that I can do an annual grant given each year on the anniversary
of our Chinese daughter's gotcha day, May 9, 2004. So check out the site and see
what you think. It is a great way to pass the time while you wait and to help
other families realize their adoption dreams.

Thanks,

Bobbie Steve*

Wouldn't you like to say "I love you," to your baby in a language they
understand?

I am sorry for the late notice, but I just heard a mention that today's
broadcast of a radio show on my local NPR station called "Here and Now" (at
12:00 noon EST) will deal with one mother's quest to try to discover if her
daughter, adopted from China was really an orphan, or if she was the victim of
child trafficking or kidnapping. It may be too late to hear it live on the
internet, but the local station is WBAA just in case, and you may be able to
listen to it later on the net.

That depends on what you want. If you are only shooting stills than there are
loads of entries in the under $500 market. I chose my Canon powershot because it
also shoots up to an hour of decent quality video and I only had to carry one
thing. It's not tiny like the latest pocket cameras (about the size of an old
SLR film camera, but lighter) but it did a great job capturing our trip.
Look for optical zoom - digital zoom is just cropping and degrading picture
quality. Then you also want stabilizing technology. Most cameras take 2-4GB
cards now. I'd go with two 2 gig cards and keep swapping them. It is possible to
fill them up especially if you are shooting video, I ran out a 1 gig card in the
Forbidden City. Download everyday if you have a lap top with you - but don't
delete form your memory card (ok delete the crummy stuff) until you get home. I
went so far as to e-mail really important pix just to make sure they existed
somewhere. Extra batteries and charger are a worthwhile investment.

Hi -

I really like my Kodak Easy Share 2712 IS. I like it because it has a powerful
zoom of 10 or 12 but it is still small enough to fit into my purse. It also
has excellent video.

One source to check out cameras is feedback left on Amazon.

Good luck

Hey guys,

We have lurked here for quite some time and have enjoyed reading all the posts.
We are now waiting to go to China for our 5th adoption. All of our adoptions
went smoothly in China but it seems every 2 years we go again.
This trip will have to be the last as I'm aging out. We are hoping to go around
12/17, but as always, we are waiting on China and the powers that be.
All that said, we have used the same camera on all of our trips since 2002 and
it is on its last legs.
Any recommendations?

For anyone still trying to decide on an airline for their adoption trip, Asiana
has started a new service they are entitling "Happy Mother". For families
traveling with babies under 24 months, you will now have your own expedited
ticketing line, expedited boarding, and your checked bags will be tagged with
the priority tag to be the first off of the plane. Like other airlines, they
have the bassinets but they are also now offering car seats for babies with
their own ticket as well as offering slings so you can walk around the airplane
easier with your baby (although I know most of us bring our own sling/carrier).

Asiana has a 5-star ranking with Skytrax and amazingly, has some pretty good
fares! Their coach class was ranked #1 in the world in 2008 and their cabin
crew is superb (they have always taken great care of us).

One drawback - no direct flights to China from the U.S. You have a layover in
Seoul (which is a nice airport).

Subject: Q and A Series Group?

In a continuation of our Q. and A.
Series….

One of our most frequently asked
questions has to do with . . .

Group
Travel or Not?

So, we posed this question to Eva Ash,
an adoptive parent and clinical psychologist:

Q. As an adoptive family that has
taken a homeland journey, how did you feel about traveling with a group before
you traveled? What was it like to travel with a group? Are you happy or unhappy
that you decided to travel with a group, and why?

Eva's answer is "classic."
It is what we hear from pretty much every family that has ever had qualms about
group travel. Thanks Eva for your great input!
A. This was the exact question we had as we began to
plan our homeland journey! We are not group travelers. But as we
began to think seriously about how best to do a homeland tour, we realized
several things that pointed us toward group travel in general and The Ties
Program specifically.
	 * First of all, if we had traveled independently I (the mom of the family)
would have become the tour guide, travel agent, translator, and referee. Plus I
wanted to still be on speaking terms with my family when we returned. We knew
that by traveling with Ties all of the logistics would be taken care of for us.
	 * Second, we knew that homeland travel (and actually any travel involving
children) comes with extra stresses. We wanted to be able to "just" be parents
on this trip so that we could take care of ourselves and our son should the
emotion of homeland travel overwhelm one or more of us.
	 * Third, we suspected that especially as an only child our son would benefit
from traveling with other kids. And boy were we right on this one! The kids on
our trip formed an amazingly close bond. While in-country, the kids loved to sit
in the back of the bus chatting with each other, playing each other's handheld
gaming devices, and looking out the windows appreciating the beauty of their
birth country. They loved knowing all the other kids at the hotel pools (the
honeymooning couples didn't seem to appreciate our group as much).
	 * Finally, we thought that traveling with the support of social workers would
benefit our whole family as we processed our experiences. Some of us swore
before traveling that we would opt out of this part of the trip, but as it
turned out none of us did. And surprisingly it was our son (famously a
non-talker when it comes to adoption issues) who enjoyed the chat sessions the
most!

But there was an added
benefit to group travel that we hadn't anticipated: having other adults to keep
US company! We had so much in common since so many of us were anxiously
excited about the trip: Would our kids love us or hate us for visiting
their birth country? Had we picked the right age for homeland
travel? Had we made the right decisions in terms of connecting (or not)
with significant people from our kids' early lives? Were we really going
to eat the local delicacy of deep fried tarantula as we had promised our
kids? (2 kids and 4 adults did!). It was also nice to travel with
other families that look like ours and understand the particular politics of
adoption from our son's birth country.

So yes, in the end we were
extremely satisfied that we made the choice to travel with a Ties group.
In fact, we are planning a family trip to Paris and might just become group
travelers. If only Ties led tours of
European capitals...

We
are honored to be part of this profound, life changing experience in your
life experience of adoption, and thrilled to tell you that it is not just
little old ladies with blue hair that think group travel is a good thing!

Sincerely,
  Becca Piper,AP

Do you have an email address for David. I'm having some trouble with a couple of

that does not matter.

their delay record. He also got us flights cheaper than I could find online.
Continental flies to Beijing (13.5 hours) and HK (15.5 hours) . We took the
train to HK after our Consulate appt and stayed overnight, leaving the next am.
You also have the option to fly back to Beijing.

China Air or Air China? Two different airlines.

China Air is out of Taiwan and has a really bad reputation ... Air China is PRC
and does domestic flights as well as international.

I'm thinking you meant Air China ... yes?

quick one from Atlanta to Roanoke. It was such a hassle (granted TSA
contributed to that significantly) that we just rented a car and drove back
home. Our criteria for flying expanded from 4 hours away to at least 6 and
perhaps 8 hours drive time before we consider flying again.

We flew Malasian Air to China - and it was the most wonderful airline experience
ever. Courteous ground and air crew, on time flights, tasty meals (yes, really)
all you would have expected in the US before deregulation! We flew China Air
within China (HK to Beijing, Beijing to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to HK) and it was
also quite nice - not so fancy, but on time, courteous, etc). Our only negative
was once we hit LA back in the states and encountered a domestic airline once
again.....sigh. Welcome home....

Susan

Good point ... but ... and this is what stopped us from flying Air China:

Brother-in-law said that many of his pilot friends did contract work for Air

That said, given the way people drive on roads here (China), I think being on a
plane is likely safer ;)

Also within China, there are no options but to fly a Chinese airline (and while
I've never flown an American airline, if Chinese airline service is better, it
must be pretty dismal in the US ;)
