Welcome to this motley crew, Robyn, and you have just signed on to have the time of your life thats for sure.

The Texas Challenge is a fantastic event where you will get to meet Geocachers from all over the state of Texas and although the event itself lasts only about 4 hours, the side events that preceed and follow it are always a lot of fun and we finally get to put faces with Geocaching handles.

To answer some of the questions you put forth
1. What should we Expect - Well expect to have a fantastic time and an unforgettable weekend
2. Are we automatically on the Centex Team- Nope you can be on any team you choose - - BUT - - Centex WANTS YOUR BOD!! (the other     teams usually outnumber us so all are welcome)
3. Is anyone else going to be there - you betcha - lots and lots of people will be there - i think the count last year was over 300
4. What kind of games - The games will be defined by the host team on the morning of the event - that way everyone starts out the same way
5. Will we make friends - Yup (as they say in these hyar parts) you will make a lot of new friends at the Challenge - that is guaranteed :)
6. Will they throw rocks at us - Not hardly - but if they do - just throw em back - thats the way we are lol
7. Anything special we should bring - (a) GPS (b) yourselves (c) camping stuff (d) your party hats

Because of other considerations, we may not be able to make the Challenge this year :(, but our hearts will be with our Centex team. Our plans, however, are subject to change without notice and hopefully something will come up so we can make it. If not, we hope to see you at other Geocaching events during the coming year.

Subject: [CentralTexasGeocachers] Howdy All - Texas Challenge?

Hello Everyone,

Finally decided to go through the process of registering with Yahoo so
I could join this group and see what ya'll talk about. :)

I also decided I should attend the Texas Challenge this year. I've
always wanted to go, but have always had something else going on.
Anyway, me and some of the San Martians will be attending this year,
but we have questions.

What should we expect? Are we automatically on the CenTX team because
of where we live? CAN we be on the CenTX team? Is anyone else going to
be there? What kind of games? Or rather, what exactly is the
challenge? Will we make friends? Will they throw rocks at us? Is there
anything special we should bring?

Any answers are much appreciated. Thanks!

Christian's caching name is Hzoi. Thank you for your help CenTex
cachers! I was planning to come down there and go caching with him
but at the very last minute things changed and I will not be able
to. Hzoi is a great cacher and a really nice guy. I think it would
be fun for him to set his all time find record in San Antonio. Since
he's been stationed in Germany for a while, he is not used to San
Antonio traffic (I am in teh same boat) so any driving assitance
would be a huge bonus probably, too.

Thanks ya'll!

Hmm, loosely, a geocoin is a commorative coin involving geocaching.  A trackable geocoin has a unique number assigned to it by Geocaching.com (and individually printed/pressed into the coin) and is entered into their data base so that it can be tracked in the same fashion as a travel bug.  Essentially, a trackable geocoin is a self contained travel bug.  There are a couple of other sites that will tack specific geocoins but most of us regard the Geocaching.com site as the important one.

A non-trackable geocoin is pretty and is essentially high class swag.

There.  Clear as mud or did I confuse the issue even further?

We are flying into Seattle in June for a cruise.

We are adding an extra day for the Space Needle.

What can or should we do related to Groundspeak?

I guess getting the first geocache (or a visit to where it

was) is out of the order since it's in Oregon….

Ohhhhh, we are from the Pacific Northwest...we're here to help!

> We are flying into Seattle in June for a cruise.

There are two cruise locations for boarding. One is downtown on the
waterfront and the other is a little further south in an industrial
type of area.

When you look at a map of Seattle you will think you can just walk a
few short blocks...which you can...but you shold know that Seattle is
built on 7 hills. Nothing is flat. Everything is going to require a
hike up a hill of some sort. Locals duck into stores and take the
elevators up to the next street to cut down on the hike.

You'll probably rent a car at the airport. Seattle is a little
confusing to drive but if you've got a turn by turn GPS you should do
fine. Traffic in Seattle is the things nightmares are made of. If
you're GPS says you can make it to a destination in 30 minutes figure
on 60 if it's anywhere near rush hour.

Seattle drivers, generally speaking, don't honk their horns. Once in
a while you'll hear a honk but it's it's just not done. For one thing
we've got a cell phone in one hand, a latte in the other and we're
driving with our knees... we can't afford to honk.

It's also unusual for people to cross against a light. Even if it's 3
in the morning and there is no traffic for miles. We wait until the
light changes. That's how you know who the locals are. We are the
ones without sunglasses or umbrellas, waiting for a light to change.

> We are adding an extra day for the Space Needle.

The Needle is great for a first time visitor but you should know that
it's not free to ride the elevator to the top. Well, it is but you
need lunch/dinner reservations to eliiminate the elevator fee. The
restaurant revolves about once an hour so you can sit and eat and see
the entire 360 view if you want. An elevator ride to the top for the
observation deck is going to run you $16. Here's the web site:

>
> What can or should we do related to Groundspeak?

Contact them well ahead of time and explain that you are in town for
one day only and would like to make a quick visit. They generally
don't open their doors freely during the week. They prefer Friday
afternoons when the work week is slowed down but they may make an
exctption depending on where you come from and how long your stay in
town is.

The tribute plaque is a good 3.5 hour drive (one way) away. It's
nearly a straight shot down I5 but it's still a good distance away.
It's doable in one day but it's an all day, bust your ass, day.
Semper Questio and we did it last year.

Good luck with your cruise! If there's anything we can help you with
in advance just let us know.

We found several in Discovery Park in Seattle. It's a beautiful park with great trails and amazing views (even has a lighthouse), but the city wants them to archive all of those caches. They are hoping to meet with the City Park people and work out a compromise (see the last noted posted for gctcta).

Hmm, loosely, a geocoin is a commorative coin
involving geocaching. A trackable geocoin has a
unique number assigned to it by Geocaching.com (and
individually printed/pressed into the coin) and is
entered into their data base so that it can be tracked
in the same fashion as a travel bug. Essentially, a
trackable geocoin is a self contained travel bug.
There are a couple of other sites that will tack
specific geocoins but most of us regard the
Geocaching.com site as the important one.

A non-trackable geocoin is pretty and is essentially
high class swag.

There. Clear as mud or did I confuse the issue even
further?

Once you get the list for what needs to be done with regaurds to remodeling let me know what material you will need especially lumber etc.. for the ramps. I work for a Lumber Company and get a very good discount. I can also help with any construction you need to do. I just need some notice to make plans.

Hi all,

Chatted with Howard this evening and as Curtis said, everything is
going great with Howard's recovery. All the kind words and thoughts
have really made the difference.

As for remodels, help at home. Howard is making his first trip home
this weekend and I will be taking careful notes as to what needs to
be done to make it Howard ready and helpful. As it stands right now
(or at least from Howard's bedside this evening) he is thinking about
one main ramp in the garage to get into the house. Measurements have
all been made compliments of MrsSQ's dad. That being said, after the
first visit this weekend I will have a better idea of where to point
this great outpouring of help.

Don't worry, I will be calling.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me
texbobcatATgmail.com or give me a call. My cell is floating out there
somewhere. I generally get to email about once a day (in the
evening).

Cheers,

Brad

geocachers like it?
But you'll see THOSE coins (that link) are under the commemorative coins,
rather than the geocoins. CoinsandPins.com does all kinds.
It's a subtle difference to be looking for in the fine print, and I do
have many GORGEOUS but untrackable coins mistakenly bought for the
collection.

So after having a great time caching with Moosiegirl and Kangadrew last
weekend, I'm wondering if anyone's up for doing some caching tomorrow?

I was thinking start around 9ish, and go until people get tired, etc.

I might go, Dom. Where would y'all meet beforehand?

That'd be about 9:30ish for me then. :-)

Hi Gang,
It appears my hastily hidden cache (GC18XPD) in honor of Paul's 7000th find already has a soggy log. I'm thinking maybe the bison tube I used had a bad seal. I wasn't expecting to have to do maintenance on it till the next event down there. If any of you happen to be close by there and can replace the log for me I would appreciate it. If not no worries I'll get it when I come down for Julie's juggling event.

If you have any coins or TBs that want to go to Germany (or I guess Europe in General for that matter), contact me TODAY. I'm going down to San Antonio tomorrow to meet a cacher who will be returning to Germany on Monday or Tuesday.

Hey Drew,

I will try to get over there soon. I have the same bison tubes that I can
replace it with if the seal is actually gone or broken. If it is still fine, I
will put a new log in it.

Howard made his first trip home today. The visit has been productive
and we have started a list of things to welcome Howard home. I have set
up a new group SQsupport. Please feel free to join as I will be posting
some things that need to get done to help Howard out. You should hear
some from SQ today as Howard is right now checking email at home (for
today). I will be posting a list up on SQsupport today of the times and
things that we need to get accomplished.

Thanks again,

Brad

Hi all!

I finally got out of my cell, um, room, today for a 5 hr home pass.
We've been checking out how things will work when I come home,
hopefully early to mid next week.

Occupational and Physical Therapy has been going very well. I've been
nailing wheelchair transfers and other exercises and the therapists
have been very happy with my work.

On top of that, I have several of them that are REALLY getting
interested in geocaching! :)

I'm going to keep this short cuz I want to enjoy being home for a
while, so let me just say another quick thanks to all those who have
offered support and done so much for mea nd my family already. I can
NEVER thank you enough.

Howard

Well, you DID sign up for the five star service, my friend -- glad to

I was thinking that Pecan Trail series out in RR would be great for your
PT when you're ready ... oh yeah, that's your series! -g-
