I don't remember if I mentioned to the Centex crew when I bought flea treatment for my cache kitty (HA!) from a place in Australia called The Pet Shed, but I want to tell the story again so you pet owners can take advantage.

I priced Front Line Plus Flea Treatment on the internet in May, because it runs anywhere from $10-15 a treatment at the vet's office. The best price I found was $39.95 plus shipping from the Pet Shed for a 6-month supply. It ended up being about $45 if I remember correctly, while it would have cost a minimum of $60 at the vet. They air-mailed it, and I got it in less than 5 days!

I was very happy for the great price and for the super service, of course ... but it gets better. I just got a reminder in my email that my last order was placed in May, and asking if I would like to re-order. It included an order form for the item I ordered! As far as I'm concerned, they have a customer for as long as I have a pet. They have really learned how to use the internet to its best advantage to get and KEEP customers.

Nov 9th is the only day I can't make it. It's Sarah's (Lil Es)
birthday and believe it or not, she wants to have a geocaching
birthday party with her friends! I'm going to hide party favors
throughout the local park, hand Lil Es my GPS and let them loose.
Should be fun to watch :-).
Any other day works fine for me.

WHY IN THE WORLD HAVEN'T WE THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING GEOCACHING INTO THE BIG TPW WILDLIFE EXPO WEEKENDS? I just heard an ad with them listing off all the wonderful and fun things you can do in Texas Parks, and WE'RE NOT THERE!!

Who knows someone at TPW? We need to approach them NOW to get something about geocaching into their Expos, spring and fall!!! Why don't we put together a small committee to discuss and plan with TPW!

Of course, someone will have to go out to McKinney Falls and hide some more geocaches ... I think we can handle THAT, though!

I think you were answering about the Event Cache at Zilker and not about MUGS. But HOW NEAT!! about your daughter wanting to have a geocaching party. Ask her if you can invite all their mommies and daddies, too! Maybe we can collect up some GPSr's for you to borrow ... I think Wayne and I could give ours up for a bit! :-)

OH Candy, that's so sweet of you! My gut feeling on this one is I
will have my hands full with a bunch of 7 yr olds tracking goodies
in the park, don't know that I can handle babysitting all their moms
and dads too. :-)
But your statement does give me the idea to turn this into
an "official event" for all of us. Lil Es's Birthday Bash Cache?
Hmmm... I'll have to think about this one. Not sure I can focus on
both "events" at the same time. Speaking of birthdays, my 50th
(UGH!) is coming up and have no solid plans as of now. Are there
any "legal" issues about having an insane birthday cache party with
cache stashes such as bottles of tequila, cases of beer, etc.? Wow,
might be challenging to hide a case of beer. Would that be a BURP as
opposed to an URP?

OK folks, I've been thinking about this one for a while. There's a
tiny bit of fine tuning to do but I'm 99% of the way there. I'd like
to get some feedback as to whether you would be interested (the few
I mentioned it to thought it sounded like a blast)and what day would
work best. The four days that I can do it would either be Oct Oct
18th or 19th or Nov 1st or 2nd. With a quick enough response, I
might even be able to pull it off this weekend (but that's a
longshot). Please forgive me for the length of this post. Here is
the idea:
Minimum 6 people, maximum 14 (7 teams of 2). 7 caches hidden in
Walnut Creek Park. Each cache has 7 envelopes, each envelope has 1
playing card. We meet and then head out to do 5 of the caches
(coordinates for just 1 cache are given at the start to each
player/team, a different one for each player/team, that way we don't
all head off to the same cache at the start). Each person/team grabs
and envelope at the first cache giving them a card and the
coordinates for their next cache, and so on. Continue till each
player/team has all five envelopes from all 5 caches. Then we meet
back at the starting point and chill out, have lunch, enjoy a
brewskie, look at our cards (but don't let others see them). You can
discard between 0-2 cards. Then we head out to do the remaining 1 or
2 caches if we want to get card(s) to replace any we have discarded.
As a motivating factor, if you don't need any cards because you had
a great hand and didn't discard, by going to the last 2 "replacement
card caches" you get the coordinates for the Wild Card Cache. Meet
back up and see who wins. Winner gets the prize. Prize will either
be something I buy (such as a gift certificate) with everyone's
entry fee (maybe $5) OR we start with an ante cache which everyone
hits first to place their prize in (any suitable fun $5ish item).
When you go to the ante cache at the beginning is when you get the
coords to the first cache location, again, everyone would get the
coords to a different cache so we don't all head off the same way.
As far as planting the caches I have 2 options.
1) I can leave a box in a central location where everyone that is
playing picks up a cache and hides it during the days before we
play. This way we are all on even ground, we each know one location
and are motivated to make it a good hide from the others playing.
2) second option is one of Shelly's friends named Greg said he would
volunteer to hide them all. How nice is that???
OK, let me know if you're in and what date out of the 4 listed above
works best. My vote is Oct 18th but if everyone is running off to
Waco that day I can be flexible.
So what do you say... Social gathering, BBQ, beverages, Geocaching,
a game of Poker and prizes all wrapped up into one?
Thanks for your input!

I'm afraid that the booze would probably not fly as a cache, since it would be a "one time only find"! You know that there would be no trading ... it would just be GONE! LOL

Don't be depressed about the big 5-oh. There are those among us, who will remain nameless (but her initials are Moosiegirl), who are only a year behind you ...

Wow, Steve, I didn't see that, I've been so busy! Thanks for pointing it out. I added some input; I think GARMIN and MAGELLAN would be more than happy to be there, with loaner GPS units which people can use to go find their first cache, don't you???

Sounds like a total blast!  But I think I am doomed for all weekends.  It does depend though if 11/1 is the start of deer season.  If not, I just might be able to do that weekend.  I may just have to meet you all for the fun and brewskie session of the event!!  ;o)

Why is it that people so flaky that when they set a date to meet someone to do some software trading and never call to confirm time and place and make a person sit for half a day in Northwest Austin when they could of been doing something else instead of waisting time? Can anyone answer that question? Man I was so happy to find someone to share a copy of some mapsend software now I am crushed, I feel so let down.

Some people are inconsiderate, some people have life "catch them by
suprise" and forget. Both happen to me, I must admit. I hate to
offend or hurt other people, so I always do my best to at least call
someone when my plans change suddenly. Since you don't know what
happened yet to the person you were meeting, call them and ask,
don't assume they just blew you off until they tell you that's what
happened. They could have been involved in an accident or
something, too, you never know. (Let's hope not) Sometimes even the
best of intentions get sidetracked.
Good luck.

So, I was working away at my rental house yesterday, when I looked
down at my watch and noticed that it was 9 minutes till 3:00pm. My
daughter was going to perform with her dance team at her school at
3:00pm. I was planning to attend and videotape!!!! yikes!!! I
forgot. So I go running out the door in my old painted/dirty
clothes (my daughter is going to love me showing up at her school
dressed like this!) I realize I don't have time to go home and grab
the video camera, so I head straight to the school. On my way, I
get a phone call from my cousin, she's crying, and she says my
Grandpa died that morning and everyone is upset. I say, "I gotta
call my mom!" I call my mom figuring she already knows and instead
I am the one breaking the news something like, "Hi, I guess you
already know that Dad died today, right?" She says, "What?" I
repeat, "Dad died today." She says, "No!?!" (disbelief) I then
realize she doesn't know. <I am still racing to the school to watch
my daughter.> It catches up to her, silence, then questions about
when and how, questions that I don't know the answer to. I let her
go so she can call to find out. I run into the crowded gym to the
screaming and cheering jsut in time to see the entire performance.
Man they were awesome!!! I wish I had a video tape of it. Oh well,
life just caught me by suprise. Plans changed.

love,
Tanya

Cool idea. Either weekend works for me if the party starts around 11 or later.

No offense to Greg, but has he cached enough to be up for this task?

I like the idea of one person hiding all the caches, though. Gives everyone an
even start.

Depending on where caches are hidden in the park, hitting 7 may taken longer
than you want and leave less time for the party. Just a thought that you might
want to take this to a smaller park or use a limited area .....

Make it happen!

Steve

Don't rush to judgment! If Mo didn't show up, there had to be a good reason. She does have children. There could have been an emergency. Maybe there was just a miscommunication, or maybe she couldn't contact you because of transposed numbers on a phone number or something simple like that. She is a responsible person and wouldn't have done it on purpose or even carelessly. If you have a beef, maybe you should ask HER what happened instead of airing dirty laundry on the email list.

OK, Tanya, don't flaunt all that excess energy around HERE! LOL  Do you have a watch with an alarm on it? I learned in a drawing class one time that a right-brained activity (and believe it or not, I think painting a wall counts!) causes you to lose all track of time. When you are doing a right-brained activity and have to stop at a certain time, it's always prudent to set an alarm. If you don't have one on your watch, take a timer from the kitchen and stick it in your pocket or on your waistband.

I am sure I speak for everyone here when I send my sincerest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your grandfather. God Bless You as you remember and celebrate his life in the next few days!

Happy Trails,
