You’re too modest, Candy!  You’re a GREAT resource!

And thanks for pitching my pet project about the game names.  It really helps me to know who I’m talking to!

Isnt it in someones front yard? Theres a note posted to the cache
page from GiGi; its the most recently-posted note. It contains
coordinates down near 290/71. I would have scooped it up already, but
it looks like a nice neighborhood which wouldnt take too kindly to a
bearded weirdo stomping through yards at 5am with a flashlight. :)

Barry,

It's tough, because theatres have a tough time getting people to go see Blockbusters, so when we push our indie movie with no big stars - well, it can be rough.

It would definitely help if you guys do what you can to let them know there is an audience.  Also, if you have an organization that you know of that is non-profit or otherwise - so provide marketing material and the movie and then we split the profit.  That is sometimes a good way to do it, because the organization has a membership to pull from which helps fill the seats.

I'll check out the other ones and see if they're on our list.

Another place you might want to check besides the Dobie Theater (I mentioned in another reply to this email - let me know if you didn't get it) is the Alamo Drafthouse

Hope you can get it aired here.  What does it take to get a film shown anyway?  The Drafthouse can show movies and it can be rented as well.  If enough of us geocachers want to see it, perhaps we know of our interest...

Mina called me only a few minutes after I posted, and we're getting together after we both do some errands to do a few caches in the Central Austin area (around Grover and Koenig) so she can get more comfortable with her GPS. This should be around 3:00 or so. Anyone who can show up is WELCOME. Give me a call and I'll let you know where we're going.

I won't tell you how little she paid for that 76CSx; we'll have another flash flood warning from all the CRYING!:((:((:((

I came up here to post about this a while ago, and then got started on Mina and Gigi and forgot about it (ADD strikes again)!

You folks that are going to CP to do all filler's new caches and NOT doing the Godzilla Multi-cache are MISSING A REALLY NICE LITTLE CACHE! The only ones of us who have found it are TBI and me (co-FTF). This is a good cache, challenging and not too heavy on the terrain.

If you were wary of the terrain, forget that worry. I did it at night and dead tired, and I didn't even come CLOSE to killing myself. It's less than .2 one way in distance if you park at the "ending" point he gives, walk to the beginning, and then work your way back. This is a very nice little area, and there's a nice playground if you want something to keep the kids busy. Filler did a good job on this cache; it doesn't deserve to be ignored because it has a "multi" icon.

It seems that to cache on a route, you use Google Earth to generate a .kml file, then upload that to gc.com.  I've done this for simple routes, like here to Texarkana, through Dallas.  But I don't want to drive through Dallas, I want to go up US79.  How can I tell Google Earth I want to go up 79?  I make a bunch of push pins in places along my route, try to find directions, but GE doesn't approve...it looks like I need to use addresses instead.  And even if I do get directions between two points, I've got about 14 turns in my route and need to concatenate these small pieces of my big route together.  Help!

The only way i have seen to do a custom route in GE is to manually
draw a path. The plus side to this is the path goes exactly where you
want it to go.

There are a couple of ways I know to do a custom route.

In GE, you make several small routes along the one you want, saving
each one. Then you can cut & paste the code in those saved files
together to make 1 large, custom route. Say you make 5 custom routes.
Open #1 (the beginning of the trip) and go to the bottom. Open #2
and copy everything between the GE header and trailer records to #1
between it's last line of route data and the trailer record. Do this
with rotes 3-5 also. Then save #1 (to a new name so you don't trash
what you started with) and you should have complete custom route. I
can't tell you much more than that cuz I don't use this method.

You can also use SnT (Streets and Trips) without TOO much trouble,
although it can be tedious if you want very precise and you are taking
a long route. This is the method I generally use.

You can also use GSAK and ARC/Poly filters, but I know nothing about that.

A couple of links for info:

This is the method I use. I found it one someone else's website and
plagiarized it to mine in case theirs disappeared. Apologies to
whomever I got this from, but I could not remember who it was and
could not find the page again later....

What I did was to run individual routes for each segment and then combine them latter using GSAK.  There probably is an easier way.  I think that you can set up polygons or something using GoogleEarth . . .

I know this is a long shot, but.....

The young girl who works for my client was told her Grandmother died
about 2 hours ago. She doesn't have enough money to get a flight for
her, her new born and her husband down to El Paso and then drive into
Mexico to attend the funeral. She just had a baby girl so things are a
little tight. Does anyone on this list have a voucher or miles they
would be willing to donate?

We even tried the bereavement rates and those rates are not feasible.

My Cell is 460.9718

Thank you.

P.S.
Let's not spread the word about me being nice. Don't want to let it get
out that annoying and loud is not my usual way. :-)

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I tried and tried to get a path out of Google Earth, but never figured it out.  I got the ruler up and tediously made the route, but couldn't figure out how to save it, even using the latest version.

Then I downloaded GPSBabel and it was a snap loading my S&T file.  Thanks also for the woot.com heads-up.  We purchased S&T and will be navigating via the GPSr which came with it over the weekend.  (on a route we know by heart...  :)

I have a big favor to ask -- are there a few of you with GPS 60 units
for a Geocaching class at National Instruments on noon Tuesday? If I
can meet you and pick it up late Monday or early Tuesday, you won't
have to go without for long. As soon as the class is over, I'll take
them back to everyone who loans them.

What KIND of 60? Color or BW, X or not, I just want to have
approximately the same OS and form factor. I have every confidence
that this group of Women in Engineering will treat them with respect
and take good care of them.

If you are willing to help, please call me, or email me so I'll know
how to contact you! My cell is five one two six three two six two zero
six (you know, I should really set up a macro button to type that for
me!).

THANKS, and Happy Trails!

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to the Family in need of airfare vouchers and bonus miles. I know these vouchers and such usually take a lot of money and time to acquire. That is why it meant so much to the Family and me for the offers. Also, thanks to those that offered their thoughts and prayers, those are so very kind I cannot begin to tell you. If anyone is new to this group of Central Texas Cachers, this should affirm what a great group of people we have here.

While I am writing this, I am looking at my Biggest “Pain in the Ass” and “El Pinché Pendéjo“ Awards. I am trying for at least one more so I will have to disavow any knowledge of these posts. ;-)

Seriously Thanks So Much for the offers and support. They do mean a lot to me and Laura and José.

We are willing to lend two of our GPSrs. They are 60 and 60CSx. Where to meet? We are very busy this week. Stop by Richard's work place, Texas School for the Deaf during early morning?

Right now we are at home. We do not want to drive to Austin until next day.

Hi! all,

I joined this group in Nov 05 and bought a Garmin GPSMap 60CS and at the time I downloaded everything that I could find relative to geocaching and any applicable software. I have used the gps extensively for traveling, but (shame on me) have NEVER used it for what I bought it for, geocaching. Now I want to start over and do what I started.

My question is: at the time I bought GSAK.v6 and CacheMate for palm. Somewhere there was a complete step-by-step guide for downloading waypoints from geocache.com into GSAK for organization and then transfering to CacheMate and the gps for paperless caching. I don't have a clue where to find this again, and I am upgrading to GSAK.v7 and to CacheMate for pc instead of palm. Does there exist, anywhere, a VERY DETAILED step-by-step guide applicable to these new software versions that can be understood by a technologically challenged geocacher wannabe?

I am in Duncanville (south of DFW area) and maybe could use a mentor to jump-start me in the right direction if there is anyone reading this who is near-by.

Thanking you guys in advance for any help you can offer.

Later,
BradRod.

There actually are some sites on using the GSAK and CacheMate applications… I know several for Palm user’s since that is what I presently use.  Roland_OSO is your connection for paperless caching with a PC application.  He usually frequents this list so he may chime in soon if he’s out there…… J  I work in Duncanville and will be glad to help where I can but like I said, I’m presently using the Palm.

It was wonderful!  I arrived a few moments late (had to drive down from Georgetown) and Candy was MIA -- out on the course making final adjustments -- but once things got rolling, a great time was had by all!!  And we "only" lost two of the caches we hid yesterday ...

Many many thanks, Candy, it was fun to be your helper!!
