Greetings Tim (and MFC council members.) The October 9th Public Forum
sponsored by Rep Neumann in Boyne City went fairly well, with approximately
80 people (mostly "forest friendly") and plenty of media coverage. The
timber mandate and Michigan Assoc of Timbermen were the big loosers! Tim
Karashek (timber assoc. reprsentative) came off poorly, with everyone else
scoring points against his "facts" and the mandate. For my tastes, the DNR
got off way too easy (format didn't allow for much confrontation), and
their role in the threatened "last best places" was not highlighted hardly
at all. The DNR came off seeming to share the "reasonable middle ground"
along with us environmentalists, and Karashek was the scapegoat. Richard
did very well, and the MFC was mentioned by name (and in a photo and
comments) in Petoskey News Review and Record Eagle (I'll save copy for us).
Panel members: Tim Karasheck (MI Timber Assoc), Jim McMillan, Ed Hagan, and
Bill O'Neill (DNR), Ann Wowoide (Sierra), Richard (MFC), Tom Sheets
(FOBoyne), and Virginia Pierce (Michigan Land Use Institute.)

I'd like to write a quick followup thankyou to Neumann and commentary to
papers, essentially noting Shackleton's and North's support of the mandate,
non-attendence at this forum, and non-responsiveness to their constituency.
I WISH TO ISSUE A PUBLIC CHALLENGE TO NORTH AND SHACKLETON, TO PUT UP OR
SHUT UP
(I'll say that in nicer terms, and do it personally rather than in the name
of the MFC) CALLING FOR THEM TO URGE THE DNR TO HALT LOGGING IN THE LAST
BEST PLACES. Tim, CAN YOU GET ME A PHOTO (LIKE THE ONE IN THE SIERRA CLUB
NEWSLETTER) OF OLD PINE STANDS SOON? MAYBE BRING IT THIS UP NORTH WITH YOU
THIS WEEKEND? I think such a commentary - if done immediately in response
to the public forum, with a photo, might have great effects. The
commentaries with photos of clear-cuts we did generated a lot of calls,
networking, and the action that lead to this forum. Jim

                        The Center Point (Celtic)
                               By: Airmid

The methods that I use involve putting oneself in the center of the
Three Realms, constructed as a triskele. The first is a movement
meditation that I call "The Center Point." It involves both movement and
a breathing pattern used to time the movement. Breathing is, ideally,
timed to the heartbeat. Three each beat is one count. Breathing pattern
is to inhale for 3, hold for 1, exhale for 3, hold for 1.

Movement is slow, rhythmic and deliberate. Each movement has its own
meaning.

Start standing erect, arms relaxed at your sides.

Close your eyes and relax. Clear your mind, concentrating on your
breathing, and listening to your heart beat. Breathe in and out in the
3-1-3-1 pattern three times as you allow yourself to relax.

As you breathe in the fourth time, raise your hands from your sides and
cover your heart with your palms, one over the other -- you are at the
center of the world.

Exhale, moving smoothly to one knee, placing your palms on the ground in
front of you -- you stand firmly upon the Land.

Inhale as you rise to your feet. As you stand, move your hands behind
you as far back as you can comfortably reach at waist or hip height.
Your hands should be cupped as though you are holding liquid.

Breathe out, moving your hands in an arc around you until they meet in
front of you at about the level of your navel -- the Sea always
surrounds you.

Breathing in, move your hands back to your sides, holding them slightly
away from your hips with your palms flat, facing forward and your
fingers spread open.

Exhale as you raise your arms above you in a smooth curve over your head
until the tips of your thumbs and index fingers touch --the Sky spreads
itself above you.

Inhale again, lowering your hands in front of you until they are once
again cupped over your heart -- you are at the center of the Three
Realms.

Thank you, Aine, for your interest in Celtic Body Prayers and it's movement
meditations. Though there have been several requests, I haven't yet
produced a video of this practice (mainly due to the ripeness of timing and
funding, this is a project for the future!). I teach Body Prayers in a
setting and way that would make writing about it and translating its full
dimensions from the text alone challenging, leaving students with an only a
half-satisfying experience at best.
I teach the movements in person during classes and workshops (see our
website <www.megsinet.net/jjkells> for Celtic Body Prayers workshops, i.e.,
the annual "Body Into Soul" Labor Day Pilgrimage to Beaver Island). In
person, the Body Prayers unfold beautifully, with a deep essential grace
and a powerful imagery. For instance, when we approach "the Wizard's

water molecule's motion in a wave; celebrating the water medium's ability
to receive, flow through, and release the Sun's energy (what a wonderful
metaphor, for instance, for learning to handle your emotions!) Thus I
often teach the Wizard's Dance as an embodiment of the 4 elements and an
unfolding into the beauties and multiplicities of all Creation. This Dance
can easily engage one in weeks to months to years of rich explorations.
Single phrases or "bits" of the Wizard's Dance can be learned
independently, for specific healings, empowerments, or personal
affirmations. The original poem I've included below for you, along with
Saint Patrick's "Deer's Cry", which I also teach as a shorter and simpler
introductory Body Prayer for folks in a single evening.

I hope that your interest will lead you into further explorations, and that
our paths may cross. Sincerely,

							 Amergin's Song

Following is the first half of the Song of Amergin, perhaps one of the
oldest poems known to Western Europe. It honors the arrival of the
Milesian Celts, and of their legendary wizard Amergin, to Ireland's shores
in roughly 500 B.C. It marks the mythical beginning of Celtic Ireland.

Amergin's song is an invocation of all creation, an expression of his
essential unity with everything that is manifest, a fusing of his voice
with the voice of the Source itself. Therefor we can understand his sense
of "I" as the voice of our larger selves.

When you repeat the words "I am the wind that blows across the sea . . . "
inhabit that wind, feel that wind, be that wind moving powerfully across
the sea. Treat each "I am" phrase as a personal meditation, taking the
time you need to feel yourself in the power of what is being invoked.
When, finally, you give your voice to the phrase: "I am the One who
fashions fire . . . " your intention is to speak for your whole self,
aligned with the power and flow of the Source. Your greatest tool in
achieving this alignment is your intuition ƒ imagination. "I speak now in
the voice of my larger self."

I am the Wind that blows across the Sea;
I am the Wave of the Ocean;
I am the Roar of the Surf.
I am the Stag of Seven Tines;
the Hawk that sits upon the Cliff;
and the tear drop that falls from the Sun.
I am the fairest of flowers,
the Wild Boar of Valour,
the Salmon in the pool,
and the Lake upon the Plain.
I am the skill of the Craftsman,
the Word of Science,
and the Spearpoint that takes aim.
And I am the One who Fashions Fire
in the heads of all Humankind . . .

	 The Deer's Cry

							 attributed to St.
Patrick

The Deer's Cry, or "St. Patrick's breastplate", appears in the form of the
old Celtic Lorica. This is but a short excerpt from it. A Lorica is
literally a "breastplate", or prayer for personal protection. In it the
composer and sayer of the prayer invokes any protective energies that are
important to him or her, whether they be the forces of the Elements, the
powers of Divinity, or the totemic powers of special plants or animals.

When you repeat the words "Light of the Sun . . . " inhabit that light,
feel its warmth and heat, be that sun burning powerfully and shining upon
all. Treat each phrase as a personal meditation, taking all the time you
need
to feel yourself as the sun, the sea, and the stone when you invoke them.

You may wish to say this prayer in the morning when you arise. Adding the
movements to it (see backside) can help to energize you and the prayer.
If you can occasionally work with this prayer outside, so much the better.

I arise today
With the strength of heaven:
Light of the sun,
Radiance of the moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of earth,
and Firmness of Stone.

Jim does his Celtic Body Prayers to poems or prayers. The words may be

share some of the poems & prayers with the group? (hint, hint Jim).

This is mysterious, Jean! I am just getting my feet wet (dragged
into
the egroup era by my friends and associates). I live in my
little Celtic Body Prayers hut, pre-digital design. Hope someone
gave
you our website: www.megsinet.net/~jjkells/
Glad to make your aquaintance anyway!

Greetings, CBP Friends ~

It has been three weeks since the Body Into Soul pilgrimage on Beaver
Island. I still have fresh and fond memories of our time together:
ferry journeys and bumby car rides; mid-of-night storms and finally
warm bright sun; dancing on the beach, and fresh corn on the cob in
the woods; drawings and clay figures (I wonder if any of them are
still guarding the meadow); learning and sharing each other and
ourselves; stone circles and cairnes....

Jim is preparing a new SPOC newletter that will have a page devoted
to pilgrimage alumni. If you do not regularly receive the newsletter,
please write to him (e-mail or snail mail), and ask to receive a
copy. A small donation ($1) would help him out with the costs (though
I do not believe is necessary for one issue)(but ask him) - and a $10
spot will get you the newsletters for a year.

This e-group can keep those of us interested in Celtic Body Prayers,
workshops, events, and the Beaver Island Pilgrimage informed and in
contact with each other.

Please see Jim's website at www.megsinet.com/~jjkellls (compliments
of the great webmaster, Mike Quinlan - thanks Mike!).

Peace,
Sally Wagoner

Greetings, Jean - Yes, there is someone around! Yes, there is a web site:
www.megsinet.net/~jjkells

I can send you a brochure if you send me your snail mail. Or you may wish to
do that after seeing the website.

Where do you live? I am one of the facilitators of the retreat. This is the
4th Body Into Soul experience, and it is truly wonderful, transformative, and
also just plain fun! I live in Chicago, but my heart lives on Beaver Island.

I can tell you more about it after you visit the website. Keep in touch!
Peace,
Sally Wagoner

This sure does sound awfully interesting, but it doesn't seem as
though there is anyone around. I'd like to learn more. Is there a web
page available on the subject??

Greetings, Celtic Body Pray-ers ~

Well, what a nice group to belong to. However, I can't believe my dear friend
who's name begins with J got this going by himself. Didn't you just recently
graduate from the pencilazoic era?

Hope other folks join in here, and join us on Labor Day at the Body into Soul
weekend.

Peace,
SW
