I have only lived in Caroline County for 5 years. I have owned a lot
in Lake Land'Or since 1973. We always enjoyed coming here for camping
and vacations. I am very distressed at what is occurring now in the
county. Ladysmith Village was my first concern. At that time I
called one of the supervisors to ask how the schools, fire & rescue,
sheriff's office, and roads were going to be impacted. I thought that
real estate taxes were going to be raised and those of us on fixed
incomes would be negatively impacted. Well, some of that has come to
fruition.
It escapes me how so many residences can be added and our taxes are
still raised. Don't the new residents pay taxes? If we have more
people to collect taxes from, why do they go up?
Putting that aside, one of the biggest reasons I loved living here was
the peace and quiet. I don't mind at all hearing the gun shots when
hunting season is here. I don't mind the smells of the animals and
newly plowed and mown fields. I miss seeing the pigs that used to
have their sty on Route 1. I love seeing the trees and ponds. The
other day on my way to Route 2 to visit my daughter, I saw a Bald
Eagle take off from a field right in front of my car. What a
wonderful sight that was. If the county continues to allow more
building, removal of trees, and ruining of roads with the heavy
equipment that is required to build, and we allow it, shame on the
supervisors and us.
I don't know how to stop this. I do know that my reasons for wanting
to live here is going away. I would like to help in any way I can.
However, I do not go out in the evenings. I will be happy to help in
any way I can from my home. I can do flyers, stuff envelopes, etc.
I am so happy that I read your letter to the editor in the Caroline
Progress.
