Thanks Irene,
The main thing you can do is to contact your Supervisor (by telephone
or e-mail) when a decision comes up before the Board that could have a
negative impact on the rural citizens of the county. I hope more
people like you join this Yahoo group, so that citizens can be
notified of when a potentially bad decision is coming up.
A past example of a potentially bad decision that we intercepted was a
recent attempt at requiring building permits for fences, and an
attempt to regulate what type of fence designs would be allowed in the
Agricultural zoning districts. How absurd! "No more barbed wire for
you, Mr. Cattle Farmer!" Thankfully, Mr. Acors agreed, and told the
Planning Department to leave the agricultural folks alone.
As for the taxes issue, there are multiple factors involved in the
increase, including poor management of the taxpayers money. While more
houses does mean more people paying taxes, those that move into a
place like Ladysmith Village are typically looking for bigger
government spending than the typical rural resident of the County.
One example of bigger spending that the City people are after was the
attempted creation of a County "Department of Inspections" that could
enter your house and check whether you were exceeding occupancy
limitations or leaving the lid off of your garbage can. Thankfully we
intercepted this one too.
Thanks again for joining! I'm sure we'll be facing another potentially
bad decision soon.
