Parents Without Partners was founded over 50 years ago in New York City and has since spread nationally and internationally. The Triangle has had local chapters since the 1970s; in 1990s these chapters merged to become the Capital Area Parents without Partners (Chapter Number 1349), which was incorporated as a non-profit in 2003.
The Capital Area PWP chapter serves the Triangle area of North Carolina drawing members from 10 surrounding counties. Through regional teams we spur events and friendships in different locales. In general our members reside 40% in Cary/Apex, 30% in Raleigh/Wake Forest, 20% in Durham/Chapel Hill, and 10% in surrounding cities and towns.
Whether due to separation/divorce, never married, spousal death, or adoption, we are all single parents. The hows and whys of your situation, including custody arrangements, are not a factor. Chapter-sponsored and individual-member sponsored events (both parent-only and family), social outings, and mutual support are staples of our chapter.
