Description

Cap-Q is a forum for very smart people to discuss the "Capital Q" Questions of philosophy, science, and religion. Topics include, but are not limited to: consciousness or sentience, the seat of identity, temporality, the meaning of life, evolutionary psychology (in general), consciousness as an adaptation in a fluctuating ancestral environment (in particular), memetics, the physical location of the soul, free will vs. strict determinism, satori, extropianism, the beauty of genetic imperatives, the "happiness treadmill," expanding circles of compassion, immortality, nano-medicine, temporality, and post-human consciousness. Authors discussed include, but are not limited to, Robert Wright, Daniel Dennett, Steven Pinker, Fyodor Dostoyevski, Albert Camus, Ray Kurzweil, Eric Drexler, Fritjof Capra, Richard Dawkins, Howard Bloom, Lao Tzu, Charles Darwin . . . The (quite fascinating) discussion that was the genesis of this group can be found at http://www.michaelfuchs.org/life/words/capQ/
