John Cantu was buried in San Francisco’s only
remaining cemetery, Friday, 5/16/03. He was honored
by many in the speaking and comedy community as well
as his family.
I learned a lot from John. How to write comedy, how
to perform comedy and how to produce comedy. I used
that last skill to throw a ‘final open-mike’ for John.
As Steve Rubenstein, Chronicle Staff Writer, said in
his front page article Saturday, “Eulogists got
exactly 2 ˝ minutes to tell mourners what a great
fellow John Cantu was, before a man with a flashlight
began shining it in their eyes. That's the way Cantu,
the stopwatch-toting impresario of open-mike stand-up
comedy in San Francisco, would have wanted it.”
And so he would.
If you want to read the review of the funeral (only
John would wind up with a review of his funeral.)

Sorry if you get multiple emails. I went through
John's Yahoo Groups list and sent this to all of them.
