Welcome to the site. We had a reunion in 04 at the site of the base. Sorry we missed you.
The base closed officially in 86. In 1983 the base became part of the Charles Sommer base and operated as a satelite base for a few years. The base was losing attendance which eventually cause it's closing. I was on staff in 80-83 and saw part of the slide. Glad I wasn't there to see the end.

Hi,
This is Tom Simpkin. I was on the canoe base staff from 1974 to 1977.
This is my first visit to this site or any others.
I enjoyed the staff photos.
After graduating from the U. of Wisconsin in 1986 (after many years in
school and 3 degrees), I moved to Colorado and have been working for
as environmental engineer.
I have not had the opportunity to ever return to the Base.
One basic question, when did it close and why. I have 2 sons who are
now both Eagle scouts and I have not seen anything about it.
