SUMMERSIDE - It was a brutal sexual assault at the hands of a friend.
For close to two hours, Sean Travis Pineau called the woman names, threatened to kill her and with a knife to her back, anally raped her.
Bound and gagged, she was left alone in Pineau’s Summerside apartment as he fled.
Pineau, 25, received four years in prison for what Justice Wayne Cheverie called a horrendous and demeaning crime.
According to the joint submission on facts, Pineau and the woman had been friends for a few years. He had asked her out before but she said no, considering him only a friend.
On Oct. 18, the pair went to a concert. The woman arranged to stay on Pineau’s couch. After drinks at a friend’s house and a stop at a bar, the pair went back to Pineau’s apartment.
He made advances. She refused.
Pineau became enraged, grabbed a butcher’s knife and began calling the woman names. He pinned her down on the couch and with the knife to her back threatened to kill and rape her.
He took one of the woman’s socks, shoved it down her throat. He then raped her.
Pineau fled to Moncton and turned himself in to Summerside police on Oct. 22.
A psychiatric assessment revealed Pineau suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder, mood disorders and pseudo hallucinations but was fit to stand trial.
Crown and defence jointly recommended a four-year prison sentence and asked the judge to credit Pineau double his almost eight months behind bars.
Pineau was credited with 16 months time served, leaving the balance of his
sentence at 32 months.
