I wish I had found this before the last mailing so as to only main once,
but I thought this was pretty interesting......

I've no idea how they compare to what we do and there were some oddities
I thought buy all in all.... I think I may have to consider bringing a
camera to dances and tape for learning/teaching purposes.

The dance is an SCA made up that has some kik steps that were supposed
to be galliard like but really aren't.
As far as i know the music is modern - though it really does seem like a
pavane

I am glad you mentioned this. I will be at Coronation with my recorders, and
my drum and tambourine and music. I would love to have a music pit;
especially a designated music pit where the musicians can feel safe about
their instruments. This thought comes from the incident at Chieftains where
a child accidentally ....shall we say...."nudged" ...Her Grace's expensive
Cello with his foot. I would be willing to contact the event steward to see
if this is possible. My preferences would be to be placed near the days
activities but out of the way enough so that we do don't interfere with the
days activities. It would be even better if there would be enough room for
folks to dance if they want to. What are your thoughts?

Someone else please oh please pick this up and run with it. I really love the
idea of music and dance being associated with Coronation and Crown like it is in
some other kingdoms.

Subject: A word on Copyright with a view to Avatar's marvelous works.

As many of you know, I've been wanting to create a new repository
practice materials for dance and vocal music and the like.

Pursuant to this, I wished to be sure of my legal standing before
putting anything out there that is protected and since I am most
enamored of Master Avatar's work (Al Cofrin), I contacted him first. My
request was to be allowed to make MIDI files (not notation) available,
and he was kind enough to take my request to his publisher and see if it
was permissible.

Regretfully, and to my surprise, it was not! This has taught me never
to assume. I had assumed it would be a matter of going through the
motions out of courtesy and that this 'derivative' work would not be in
violation of copyright. I was wrong. This means that any performance
of this work cannot legally be recorded and distributed, even on an
informal basis w/o permission. :(

So.. I'm just offering it as a heads-up... advice... perhaps redundant
for many of you, but perhaps there are some out there like me who might
have made the same assumption, and if so, I hope this missive is of use
to you.

Hello all,

We're still looking for dance classes for the Bellewode Heraldic, Scribal, and
Dance Symposium on April 7th. Here's what our ball's dance list may look like:

   1
1 Black Alman
2 Gathering Peascods
3 Contrapasso in Due
4 Confesse
5 Villanella
6 Heralds in Love
2
1 Official Bransle
2 Picking of Sticks
3 Ly Bens Dystonis
4 Gracca Amorosa
5 Heart's Ease
6 Petit Riense
3
1 Dargason
2 Anello
3 Chestnut
4 Bizzaria D'Amore
5 Hyde Park
6 Saturday Night Sunday Morn

There may be some juggling around in there, but that's probably a good idea of
what the ball will be like. With that said, we currently have "Inns of Court"
and "More English Country" confirmed for the symposium, but no other confirmed
dance classes. If anybody would like to teach, please send me a line!

   In service,
   -Aldheim of Seven Oaks

All right folks - you heard the autocrat - it's time to step up and teach a
class. Challenge yourself. You can do it.
This is a friendly low-key event. It is a perfect place to begin teaching and
take a chance. Aisha used it last year as a warm up for classes she would teach
at Lilies war. What a great example she has set!
I challenge all of you who have never taught, rarely taught or always teach one
thing to do something new and take a leap.
We need your help to make dancing in Calontir thrive.

And the wonderful thing about this event is, that the Autocrat will compile
the class lists, and will attempt to design a few tracks. However, the
dancers have the complete and final say in the order of the classes, because
we like it that way :)

Duchess Rondallynn's Pavanne is done to Mannheim Steamrollers's tune
Toot-a-Loot (track 12, I believe) on Fresh Aire II (2). As for the
dance itself, from what I remember being told, it's a mish-mash of
favorite steps from favorite dances of one Duchess Rondallynn. There's
the three-point spins from Korobushka; the wrist tapping from
Jouyessance Vous Donnerai; and various pavan & galliard bits
connecting it all together.

This is fabulous news. I will not be there but what I would like to see is
someone step up and offer to organize and lead dancing for this. Space to dance
is one thing, but someone there to say 'hey let's dance' and 'let's dance this,
why yes I have the steps right here, ...lozenge...etc, would make it more
readily actually happen. This is a great, relaxed and informal way to start
leading dance snd to invite people to dance. We are blessed with friendly,
talented, willing, and relaxed musicians...if you travel to dance, you'll know
this for the rare wonder that it is. So come on dance enthusiasts, take
advantage of Calontir's vast national resources and make it happen at
Coronation.

Not a dance event, mostly. One of the stations is a station where
your team must dance a certain dance. Live music will be preformed by
the Grimfells Music Esemble. (with help of our friends I hope!)

Thank you to all the musicians who came out to play at Coronation,
serenading Caillin in her Rose ceremony. And special thanks to HL Ailsa, for
arranging the space and herding us into place.

The weather couldn't have been lovelier. And the turnout was great. Special
thanks to Emily (Katriana's daughter) who helped wrangle the music stands
when the wind blew them over. And to HE Xorazne, who provided many seats for
us.

And a big hearty Calontir welcome to Elysse (I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm
butchering the spelling--pronounced ee-lace), who just moved to the Oakheart
area from the Outlands. This was her first Calontir event, and I'm glad she
came by to play with us.

I can hardly wait for the next event with an open pit! Yeah music!

this SHOULD be the last update. However, if you woke up this morning saying to
yourself "If I don't run this class now, I'll never be able to face myself in
the morning!", then please feel free to email me a class idea. We have a few
open slots left.

TEACHERS- please look for your classes, just in case we got something wrong,
and let us know. Obviously, we'd prefer to find out about our screw-ups now
rather than Saturday. :-)

If you have any questions, please let me know, and I'll see you Saturday!

  In service,
-Lord Aldheim of Seven Oaks, College of Bellewode

A hearty thank you to all the musicians and dancers who came out for the fun
at Bellewode this weekend. I had a great time! And I'm not sure when the
musicians have sounded so good--you all rock!

I had expected the dancing to peter out, but the last dance of the ball set
had a ton of dancers, still going at it. It was terrific to see!

Thanks, everybody!

A hearty Hear Hear to that!
This event is always attended by such enthusiastic fun people.
The dancing was joyous, and the attendants astounded me with their glee, energy,
and willingness to just give dancing a shot. The music was amazing, engaging and
well played.
As usual, I left this event with renewed energy for dance.

If you see one of the happy sprites that inhabit Bellewode soon, I encourage you
to give him or her a hug and a cookie!

Tsire

It was because I didn't come.

I'm no longer saying that I am coming to events.... if I do that, I may
actually be allowed to go. I honestly think God hears me say that I'm
going and then throws something in my path.... in this case about $1100
of legal troubles with a neighbor falsely reporting my
locked-in-the-house dog for menacing him.

Every single time..... Every single time.

As an addendum to that, I would like to remind you that Aldheim is a Happy

Hey all,

Thank you to everyone who came up to Bellewode for the Symposium this past
weekend! For the most part, everything ran very smoothly (which is almost
certainly a reflection on the populace's coordination and forethought, and not
the autocrat's... :-)), and pretty much all I've heard is that people had a
great time!

Of course, extra thanks go to everyone who volunteered to teach a class for
us, even those who had issues come up that made their attendence impossible- the
Symposium depends on teachers to exist, so Bellewode thanks you all heartily for
volunteering. Incidentally, while I only really got to sit in on one or two
classes, there were a LOT of them that I wish I could have taken; bravo!

Also, Tsire put on a great ball for us, and wrangled up a bunch of
gregariously rowdy musicians for it, and I can't thank her enough for that.

In short: thanks to everyone who came to Bellewode's Symposium, and everyone
here hopes to see you all again very soon!

   In service,

-Lord Aldheim of Seven Oaks, no longer the autocrat!

I didn't take lots of pictures because I was too busy dancing, but
