Greetings Dancers and Musicians,

Mark your calendars! A fun little event in the contact group of Riverwatch
(Dubuque, IA) will happen April 24th. (see Calontir website for event info
and directions)

There will be some dance classes during the day and an evening of social
dancing is planned. This looks to be a fun fun time and will be made even
more fun by your presence.

I am especially looking for live musicians for this event. Please e-mail me
privately if you would be kind enough to attend. I'll have a set list out
very soon (12 dances we know and love/loathe) and detest using recorded
music while knowing we have such a chunk-o-talent right here in Calontir.

I am also crossing my fingers and requesting those dancers who would like to
do a special performance to contact me directly. There are two breaks int he
evening, and while the dance will focus in social and easier dances, I would
love to see some wowza showoff during the breaks. Tessara anyone? lol

Looking forward to hearing from those interested in helping out. And looking
forward to danceing and playing with you all soon.

Heads Up! Its Dancing at Cheiftains!!

It has been decided (in the last week) that there will be a small
investature ball and desert revel following feast (probably from about
9-10pm) at Cheiftains on 2/21/04.

Everything is still pretty open on this - Conna's gathering live music
but the CDs will be there too. It will be in a different hall than
feast (aiding in feast cleanup). The dance list is wide open - I'll
probably put up a "Dance Card" in the hall for people to request
dances. I don't want to do ANY teaching at this - just straight dancing
or milling about the desert table talking.

Anyone with other ideas feel free to chime in.

Three Rivers musicians had our first practice last week with a partial
packet of music, and things went very well. However, all we had were the
"oldies but goodies" sheet music that we're already familiar with. We need
to get working on the "new to us" tunes so we're ready by the Ball.

I talked with Marcella this weekend.  She had put
together a partial packet of music, some of which were
the "standard" arrangements (last years) and some were
not.  She is fine with using the packet that Laura and
Tsera put together, with a few exceptions, so I'll
make a new webpage for this years Lilies :-)

She got offlist because of computer problems, but I'm
going to add her as a member and set her to NO MAIL,
so she can read the list when she gets online.  This
means that she should be able to contact us, but not
very quickly.

Okay so we're down to the wire here on dance instructors for Lilies War.
I've gotten alot of 'get back to you's so far and it's time to do that. I
have about 12 hours of class time to fill and need your help. I have one and
two hour blocks available, love single and team teachers and need responses
ASAP.

Times open:
Monday 1pm, 2pm
Tuesday 11am, 1pm, 2pm
Wednesday 11am, 1pm, 2pm
Thrusday 11am
Friday 11am
Saturday 11am, 1pm, 2pm

If you've told me yes but not a time - now is the time to pick your time
slot. If you've ever thought about teaching this is the time to try it.

versions, but I must go to sleep now :-)  Work at 6:00

This is a list of the ball dances, followed by 3 lines
of composers.  The first is Marcella's, the second is
Tsire's and the third is what I had.  Cecily Atwood is
from Crystal Mynes? and the arrangements are the ones
she did for her recorder group.  All the lines in her
arrangements are reset for C instruments. Which
doesn't make for happy Alto and Bass players.

It looks like you're missing all the same ones from Marcella's set as I am.
:)

FYI--Cecily is from Oakheart. She wrote out the bass lines in treble clef
for her local folks, who don't read bass clef.

I suggest that we go with Tsire's set, since it's complete (ok, I forgot to
add in Black Nag, but otherwise...). The local group here is having practice
this Sunday, and I'd like to have this settled for them.

Mikal posted that he hasn't gotten a letter about the Lilies Ball
from Marcella.  Her email seems to be disabled and I haven't gotten a
reply to my email to Edward (her husband)  Tsire, since you are
running the dancers, would you like to write a letter inviting people
to come and dance?  The B3R teens are planning on hosting a party
that night (Adelaide said she didn't think teens danced), so you
might specifically invite teens so they don't think dancing's not an
option :-)

Thanks for helping. please coordinate with Conna on music since she has been
kind enought o complie a full set of music. Next - I'll get on the invite
letter and class listing by tomorrow at the latest- not a problem. Last -
YAY All class spots are filled. I could use a back up here and there -

The versions should be the same as the ones Conna had, plus the tunes
she didn't.  Il Piantone is the only one without a definite tune,
Conna is hoping to have time before Lilies to pick music that she

Katriana and I talked last night (and she really cheered me up after a
dreadful work day). And her Web site has the exact same pieces as my set.
She designed it that way on purpose--and I adore her for it!

I'll have a pick for Il Piantone soon. I know what I want, but I'm not sure

Just a quick note from a former Calontiri who misses Lilies dancing greatly!

There are actually two dances circulating in the SCA that are known as Il
Piantone.

I have freely distributable sheet music for Il Piantone (the partner switching
dance structured like ballo del fiore in which men select a partner, they dance
for a bit, they separate, and the woman selects a new partner.  It was produced
by Susan De Guardiola (Alejandra de Miera).

If you're looking for music for the other dance that is sometimes known as Il
Piantone (the pinwheel dance where women join hands in the center and walk in a
wheel while the men walk on the outsides, switching parners as a caller gives
directions like "two forward" or "one back"), it is part of a larger dance
called La Caccia de Amore, for which there is lovely music.  I don't have sheet
music I can share, but I'm sure it's floating around the SCA somewhere.
