Well, this email will end up going to several lists I'm on, so you
(along with me) may get a few copies.

I've noticed a few yahoo groups that may need to be more widely known
(or need to know about other lists) and thought I'd make a general
list of all of these that I know of. I looked on Topica and didn't
see any, does anyone have any other SCA dance/dance music lists?

TrimarisDance -32 members

sca-dance-music -10 members (may go away?)
This group is for the discussion and betterment of the dance music
distributed in the SCA.

sca-dance-music-pile -14 members
List for the pennsic pile dance music

pennsicpit - contact and announcement list for Pennsic Dance
musicians. Not for general discussion, as discussion would probably
be better on either pennsicdance or scadanceband. Should get all the
announcements about the Pennsic Pile.

scadanceband - 21 members
This yahoogroup is for networking SCA musicians together for the
purpose of playing for dancing at SCA events. Discussion is focused
on the logistics of organizing event bands and increasing the
occurances of good music at SCA dances.

Welcome to all who take interest in SCA dance. This is a place to
talk about anything that has to do with dancing in the society.

Crystal Ball packets of music are being prepared as I type. (Yes, record
time!) They will mail out perhaps as early as this weekend.

Katriana, I've got you down as coming (presumptious of me, isn't it!).
Crystal Ball will be held November 2. Any other musicians planning to
come play?

As Calon Con has been moved to the 9th (at least in part due to CB)
there is no conflict this year. Yeah!

Greetings All,

If I could ask just a moment of your time.

First, the address I have for Diane Phelan
(Albuquerque, NM) bounced. If Diane or someone who
knows her current address could contact me, I will
forward along her copy of Issue 43.

Second (and here's where I really could use help),
This week I received a check from a lady (I believe)
for a subscription to the Letter of Dance. I looked
at it and tucked it away to deposit. Unfortunately I
now can't find the check and I'm afraid it may have
inadvertently gotten into a pile of junk mail which
was thrown away. If anyone sent me a check in the
past week or two or knows anyone who did, could you
please have them contact me? Also, could you please
forward this e-mail to local lists and/or bring it to
dance practice? I feel absolutely awful and I'm going
to keep searching for the check, but if I can figure
out who ordered the subscription, then at least I can
regain the lost information.

Thanks,
Katherine

Thanks to all the Calontiri who treked to provide music at Crystal
Ball - I own chocolate to alot of people. I hope everyone had as much
fun as I did.

Couple of questions for those that were there -
Anyone who was awake for the requests: what was the name of the new
dance that was taught, couples in a circle, saterello steps?
Saterello in due maybe??? What music is used and where could I find a
copy of the dance - reconstructed or not? It was alot of fun and I
think could make a really nice looking demo piece.

Would people like me to post pictures to the photos file at yahoo?
Specifically Conrad would you like pictures of taking Belle as
apprentice up there?

The dance was Pendentere in Gyro (Master Ihon - Ansteorra)
the music was the Dead can Dance version of Salterello II,
on Aion or a best of collection sadly the Wolmegut version doesn't work.

Hi All

well thanks to some nudging by new apprentice I have finished the
instructions to the Intro CD, available at

http://www.reynardine.net/reynardine/conradmvk/dance.html

Note I've added a couple of tunes for the previous versions

If anybody knows the steps to La Franchoise Novelle pleas send them to
me. I think I could stumble through it, but trying to write it down,
not a chance.

I also have an Intermediate CD available - though I just might
decide to switch a dance or two between the Intro and Intermediate one.
Half Hannikan comes to mind. Sorry I dont have a list of tunes
yet.

Hi all!

Well its that time of year again - the time of year where you work
dileegently shoveling a driveway while planning dilegently for the summer
sun and of course Lillie's War.
For me the war wouldnt be the war without the ball and the wonderful array
of classes. Here comes the pitch....ready?

Looking for teachers (21 hours worth) of all levels, syles and interests to
teach dance classes this year at the war - also looking for someone who
would like to head up the fatastic musician jamboree that we are becomming
famous for - and one more - looking for suggestions for the ball. What do
you want to see on the list , and what could never be on a ball again for
all you care? I want to know! I need to know! Let me have it!

E-mail me directly at tsire@.... I look forward to it.

Greetings dance enthusiasts,

Now taking votes for the closing dance of this year's lillies ball. Send in
a suggestion of what you'd like it to be - if there is not an overwheliming
favorite a tie breaking vote will be held and a few weeks.
I'd like this ball to have dances that you enjoy, love, and that will make
you smile. Alas, I'm not psychic - so LET ME KNOW!

As always - teachers needed! musicians needed! contact me at
tsire@... to volunteer, vote, ask questions, or say hi.

Take care and see you there.

Tsire

Well, I can certainly run musicians at the ball. Conna was
interested in doing music all over Lilies again and said that running
afternoon practices was not a problem for her (I've had poor luck in
past years scheduling practices.)

Hmmm. Just to clarify. There will be music practice for the ball every day,
and I'm willing to be the point man on that. I'm going to try to get it on
the schedule and everything. I encourage musicians to come to these
practices. Nothing shakes my confidence like a musician trying to sight read
ball music AT the ball. I'd like to set aside an hour every afternoon to
practice.

As for music all over Lilies . . . well, I'm not the cheerleader that
Constantia is. I'm not going to try to organize anything like what she had
last year. But I'm trying to get some classes lined up for RUSH. (Does that
count?)

March 1st in fact. Thought this is the deadline for
requesting a tent to be rented, not for requesting space in a tent.

I'd appreciate the list's input on this topic. It was nice to have a tent on
the battlefield for the musicians to gather every afternoon, but so few
people use it. Just musicians. Does that justify the cost of tent rental?

Comments, please.

Define use the thet - if theres music on the field and people here it and
its only there because the tent provides shade to play then anyone who hears
the music uses the tent.

Next the smallest tent is only $142.50 divide that by 1600 and its 8.9 cents
per
person. Do I get a dimes worth of enjoyment from music on the battletfield. Yes,
probably worth at least a quarter! :)

Now could you use some other shade provider, would it be worth it to haul and
set up? Also remember the battles are between 11 AM and 2 PM this year. Do you
think
that will change participation any?

And the Bardic "college" might be interested in having
get-togethers at a battlefield-side tent. Marcus
teaches an army singing class that would be very
appropriate there.

In a word: YES!

The music was commented on by several people--and enjoyed, too. As someone who
wasn't one of the musicians using it, I think it's definitely worth it.
