Tonight, Monday, July 6, starting at 7 pm the La Canada-Flintridge City Council
meets in the LCF City Hall, 1327 Foothill Blvd., LCF.  Speed limit changes and
a new license fee for tobacco retailers are on the agenda.  Regular Meetings
are broadcast live on Government Access Television, which is Charter Cable
Channel 16 (west of Angeles Crest Highway) or 55 (east of Angeles Crest
Highway.)

See: http://www.lacanadaflintridge.com/index.htm for details.

Tuesday, July 7th, From 8:00 am to 10:00 am
“Coffee with the COPPS” - “Black Cow Cafe”, 2219 Honolulu Av., Montrose,
CA 91020. The Glendale Police Department is dedicated to promoting the quality
of life in Glendale and in partnership with our community, by proactively
reducing crime with integrity and commitment to excellence.

Bring any concerns you may have to the local police.

Tuesday, July 7, starting at 6 pm, the Glendale City Council meets in Council
Chambers, City Hall, 613 E. Broadway, Glendale.  Planning Department fee
increases and an appeal of a DRB approval of a single-family addition at 2064
Buckingham Place are on the agenda.   This is another opportunity to see how
the council deals with an appeal of a DRB decision under the current process,
which has been in place about a year now.  It is a residential case, one
neighbor appealing an approval of his next door neighbor's second floor
addition, rather than a community supporting a denial of a commercial
development like the Foothill Lumber project, but there may be some lessons to
gain from observing the process play out.

This, and all Glendale meetings are available live on Charter Cable channel 6
and on streaming video on the city's website,
http://www.ci.glendale.ca.us/online_services.asp

Also Tuesday, July 7th, at 7pm - Verdugo Hills Golf Course Town Hall meeting.

Los Angeles North Valley City Hall, 7747 Foothill Blvd. Tujunga CA 91042

Come get all the latest details. Learn about the Draft EIR, the EIR process, and
how to make comments!

Rich Toyon will present a community friendly project alternative including ideas
how the Verdugo Hills Golf Course property could be expanded with additional
recreation, rather than the 229 homes proposed by the developer. Our community
friendly alternative would preserve the Golf Course, the trees, and the
watershed, with the use of ecologically sound land management and conservation
of natural resources.

Speak out now or lose the golf course forever!

VHGC Committee reports that LA Planning will *not* extend the comment period so
we only have two weeks left - the deadline is July 20.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 7 PM - Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING
North Valley Neighborhood City Hall
7747 Foothill Blvd., Tujunga, CA 91042

Speaker: City Controller Wendy Greuel; VHGC DEIR and other land use issues will
also be discussed.

Wednesday, July 8 - the McGroarty Arts Center eight-week summer session
begins.  See: http://www.mcgroartyartscenter.org/class_schedule.htm for details
and info on how to enroll.  Check out the wide variety of arts classes and
programs available for adults and children - all in a magnificent historic river
rock building tucked into a lovely oak shaded hillside.  If you aren't
interested yourself, please consider a donation to let a local child attend on
scholarship.  It's a good investment to channel budding artists into productive
pursuits - it just might redirect a potential graffiti vandal.

Thursday, July 9, starting at 5 pm, Glendale DRB #1 has its study session on the
design review process instituted last year.  Unlike the study session for DRB
#2, there are no hearings on the agenda so the staff presentation of the process
should start shortly after 5 pm. There is a resolution thanking Brian Ellis for
his service.  He's the Yousefian appointed board member replaced with Judy
Palmer by Council Member Laura Friedman. Yousefian-appointed Randy Carter was
replaced by April Sakai on DRB #2. Council Member Friedman has noted that she
selected the two replacements because they are landscape architects and she
feels strongly the DRBs should have that skill set. She said she valued the
contributions of both Mr. Ellis and Mr. Carter and thanked them for their
service.

The public and all interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend or view on
Charter cable channel 6 or streaming video on the city's website.

the Forest location. Bring drinking water, gloves and gardening tools and wear

recreation & Sports Complex. Courage at the speed of flight - the nation's
Premiere Helicopter Event. More info: http://www.heroes-airshow.com/losangeles/

Also on Saturday, July 11, the City of Glendale, the Glendale Historical
Society, and the LA County Bicycle Coalition present "A Glendale History Walk" -
a guided tour visiting historic spots in downtown Glendale. Meet at 9:30 am at
the Chess Park, 227 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale 91203 for the 2.5 mile walk. It is
expected to take about two hours and will include places not normally accessible
to the public. Please RSVP to: colin@la-bike

Yet another choice for Saturday, July 11:

The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the second of three
Artwalks, 9 am to 4pm, 2300 & 2400 blocks on the south side of Honolulu Ave. in
Montrose. Watch local artists at work as you stroll along the shady street,
perhaps purchase some fine art to take home, or discover a hidden treasure of a
shop or restaurant.

For more information call 818-249-7171

Thanks again for reading to the end of a long message!
