Hi Everyone!

This e-mail is to remind you that Babywearing International of CNY will be
having our monthly meeting next Saturday, April 21st, at 10:00 AM. Our meetings
are usually held at Basic Baby in Shoppingtown Mall, but since they are
co-sponsoring a location for the Great Cloth Diaper Change that day, they have
generously offered us space at the GCDC site. The site is also in Shoppingtown,
in the location of the "old" DeWitt Library near Sears. Because of the GCDC
events, our meeting will end at 11:30 instead of the usual noon.

As always, our meeting is kid-friendly, completely free, and open to the public.
Hope to see you there!

Subject: BWI of CNY May Membership Incentive
faithrayland
Send Email Send Email

Hello Babywearers!

We wanted to let you know about an exciting membership incentive program we're running through May.  As you know, our meetings are always free to attend and membership is never required.  If you choose to become a BWI member ($30/year tax-deductible), you are allowed to borrow carriers from our lending library for a month at a time.  We've gone through our carrier library and are updating it a bit - trying to sell some older items to replace them with new items that we feel will meet our group's needs more.  We're going to start showing any new additions from the month at the beginning of each meeting.

Our current membership incentive program gives anyone who joins during the month of May an additional benefit - a FREE 30-minute one-on-one session with one of our Volunteer Babywearing Educators, outside of meeting times.  As you know, at meetings it's important for us to help everyone and sometimes we're not able to spend as much time with individuals as everyone would like.  This program will give you 30 minutes of individual attention to help improve your babywearing experience.  When you join and request a session, we will figure out which of the three of us can work with your schedule the best and/or has the most expertise in your area of question.

If you wish to take advantage of this program, you can join a few different ways.  You can wait until the May meeting to join in-person.  You can print the Membership Form from the Files section of our Yahoo Group page (also attached to this e-mail), fill it out and mail it along with your check to our treasurer Melissa (e-mail me off-list for her address).  Or, you can send payment via Paypal to bwiofcny@... - please send as Gifted since there is no Donation option - and mail your form or just bring it to the May meeting.  After joining, please e-mail me off-list at faithrayland@... to set up your one-on-one.

Our portion of your membership fees benefits our local group greatly.  Group funds allow us to purchase carriers for the library to help meet YOUR needs, and we would also like to use some funds to create more literature to help spread the word about babywearing and our BWI chapter.

If you have any friends who are interested in babywearing but not on our Yahoo Group, please pass along this information.

Happy May!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying this great weather! I am seeking some assistance. I
was planning on attending the BWI meeting this weekend, but plans have changed
as my older boys have some things going on which prevents my husband from being
able to watch the store for me while I attend the meeting. I have a carrier I
was hoping could find its way back to the group this Saturday. I live in Oswego
and was able to drop it off at Mother Earth Health Foods/Mother Earth Baby in
North Syracuse yesterday and was wondering if there is anyone in the area
planning on attending the BWI group on Saturday who could pick it up? Feel free
to connect with me through e-mail or by phone (315-719-4498 cell or 315-216-4622

Since I'm driving and will have plenty of car space, I'm hoping to bring some

Wait!!!!  YOU are the weirdo teaching BW-ing yoga???

I thought I had one, and if I can find it - I am happy to bring it/get it to you to bring.  Especially after seeing the description about having a toddler fun-injected part in your class, I'm tempted to bring Jacob.  I may save up all my coins to bring him to the advanced wrapping or emergency wrapping class (or toddler wrapping?). I'm just not sure!!!  I can't WAIT for the Art of Weaving class though.

Talk to you more later, sweetie!

Subject: Become a BWI member and be entered to win a brand-new Ergo Sport!

Send Email Send Email

At the International Babywearing Conference in Washington, DC earlier this
month, ErgoBaby generously donated several carriers to each BWI chapter. We
received an original Ergo, an Ergo Performance, a Performance Infant Insert, and
an Ergo Sport.

WELL, since we already have an Ergo Sport in great condition in our lending
library, anyone who joins BWI of CNY during the month of July will be entered to
win the brand-new one that was just donated! This is a $115 value! Click here
for product details: http://store.ergobaby.com/Baby_Carriers/Sport/BC6SPH

If you would like to join, memberships are $30/year and are considered a tax
deductible donation. You may join at our meeting next Saturday (please bring a
check made out to Babywearing International of CNY or cash), you may mail your
payment and membership application to our treasurer (contact us for details), or
you can pay via Paypal by sending $30 as "gift" to bwiofcny@... (we'll
still need to get an application from you). In addition to entering you to win
the Ergo, BWI membership also allows you to borrow carriers from our lending
library for a month at a time and gives you the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing
you are supporting babywearing education at both the local and international
level.

Feel free to contact me with any questions! (be aware that the default "reply"
for this group is to the whole group, so manually change it to "sender" if you
only want to contact me).

Tina,

Yes current members can renew early to be entered, and it will extend your membership to two years from your initial application.  So in your case, for example, you became a member in November 2011, so you may renew now and your membership will be good until November 2013.

Next is a brown and grey Boba carrier. We received this in October 2011 (so it
is not the newest version) but it's barely been used and is in excellent
condition. Photo attached, asking $65.

After that we have a paisley print mei tai, photo attached, asking $30.

Lastly we have two Hotsling pouch slings, sizes 1 and 8. The size 1 is a blue
paisley and the size 8 is a large floral print in tan, blue, black, and white.
Photo attached, asking $15 each.

Carriers are located in Fayetteville. Feel free to email me off-list with any
questions!

Babywearing International of CNY has been looking to streamline and update our carrier library, and we have a few carriers that need new homes and are priced to move! All funds raised will support babywearing advocacy and education in out community.

different baby carriers and learn how to use carriers safely and comfortably.
If this will be your first meeting or you are new to babywearing, we will have
important information for newbies between 10:00 and 10:30 and will start the
regular portion of our meeting around 10:30.

Hope to see you there!

Hello,

Thanks for the great meeting yesterday. I had a lot of success wearing Malia,
our 1 month old, for most of Saturday (boba wrap). Two questions:

1. As I get up and move around, she tends to sink lower and her knees drop a
little bit. Should I just try and tighten the wrap by tugging and retying while
wearing her?

2. Getting her into the wrap while she's sleepy is easy. But more than once
I've taken a content, awake, and alert baby and turned her into a crying baby by
trying to get her into the wrap. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Matt

Hi Matt!
I would try and tie it tighter to begin with. Think of it as wearing a women's size xs shirt on a man. Lol
Does she like to be swaddled? Most of the time with Janae she was crying and would stop when comfortably in the moby. After you get her in try taking her outside in a new room leaving her head out but supported sometimes detracting her with something new will help her stop crying. I would also say as you become more comfortable and more efficient at getting her in and out the process will go more quickly. She might also be picking up on the learning process (nervous, figuring it out, readjusting a few times, frustration). Of course a crying baby helps with the learning process. ;P  Another tip if you have a big ball trying sitting and bouncing on it. Janae loved to be in a carrier bouncing as a newborn.
Good luck! Keep trying!

Matt,

Steph's advice is spot on.  I too was going to suggest tying a little tighter to prevent sagging.  And once you have your baby in the wrap, start walking/swaying/bouncing, and a change of scenery can also help a lot.  Like Steph suggested, sitting and bouncing on a yoga/exercise ball can be a lifesaver!
