CNN-Watch is dedicated to ending biased reporting against Israel from CNN and affiliates of it's parent company, AOL/Time-Warner.
While CNN executives and reporters claim their reports are fair and unbiased, a recent admission in Federal court (New York, 2001) by CNN reveals they do not report evenhandedly because of security concerns for their employees, "especially in the Middle East." This is most likely the result of widespread death threats against the media, including a recent kidnapping, from PA affiliated police and terrorist organizations.
Unfortunately, CNN has adopted inaccurate and otherwise editorial language when describing the conflict in Israel:
- 'activists' vs. terrorists
- 'demonstrations' vs. riots
- 'occupied territories' vs. disputed territories
- 'illegal Israeli settlers' vs. Palestinian residents
Often, Israeli casualties are dehumanized when they are reported on, being termed mere 'settlers' with no further details offered. The fact that over 1000 Israelis have been murdered since Oslo has been ignored, as has the fact that 34% of Israeli casualties are women (as compared to 3.5% of PA casualties - Dec 2001). An equal percentage of PA targets are children and the areas they are most often found (schools, buses, playgrounds), while Israeli targets are those initiating violence against it's citizens.
CNN consistently attributes a false moral equivalency to the Palestinian terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians with the ensuing Israeli defensive/preemptive reprisals. Through awareness and activism we can and will change this.
