Title:   Dry Land Glacier Practice Day

Date:   Thursday September 4, 2008
Time:   6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location:   Baylands Park - Sunnyvale CA
Notes:   We will review roped team travel, building anchors, self rescue, and simulate a crevasse rescue.

Bring boots, gloves (mittens if you want to show off), harness, locking carabiner, waist and foot prusiks (or 4mm cordalette to make them, small pulley if you have one, ice axe, helmet, headlamp (it might get dark before we finish). I will bring 2x 8mm x 70m ropes, sled, ice screws and pickets.

Most of us have never actually had to use these skills we practice so it might be good to read up on them in Freedom of the Hills or The Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue book.

The Embassy has new switchboard operating hours and as the meeting was at 7:00 am (my time) I wasn't able to call in.
I have just a couple of things.
Has anyone been to either North Peak or Gilbert?
During our last conference call,it was mentioned that some of the Sierra gullies had melted out,so I was just wondering about North Peak and Gilbert.
I was loosely planning on Gilbert around Oct. 4-5 (Sept.27-28 would also work) and havd have room for one more or another party.
I was planning on North Peak on around the 20-21st of Sept.,if another party wants to tag along.
Still planning on either Scotland or the Pyrenees around X mas for about three weeks ,so if anyone is interested let me know.

I'm cleaning out my gear closet and am sorting some thing to get rid
of. I'll be posting them on ebay soon but thought if anyone here was
interested they could get a jump on it:

Kelty Cloud 6500 Pack - Used - great lightweight pack, if you're
unfamiliar with it you can google to get the specs. Used, but very
clean and in good repair. Pack does have some discoloration from use
(it's white with red straps so when I've used a damp cloths to remove
dirt & soil the red has bled a bit on the white spectra fabric). I
have all the accessory packs, straps and gear loops plus a copy of the
owners manual from Kelty.

Evernew Titanium Cook Pot 3 Piece Set - NEW - 2 pots & 1 lid - got
this for xmas years ago, but had another set I always use so these
pots have stayed in their stuff sack for a few years, but are in super
new condition.

MSR Titanium Fork & 2 Spoon Set - Used - I have a ton of these and am
simplifying things.

Jetboil Stove - Used - Another xmas gift but I had one already. So
this one has been used very little. If you want to do a local pick up
I'd throw in 2 fuel canisters too.

REI Flash UL Pack - Used - Infrequently used so I'm trimming it from
the collection. In almost new condition.

Garmont Flash III XCR Boots - NEW - Mens 12.5 - Bought & wore once
around town but aren't going to work so am looking to unload them.
Check out garmontusa.com for specs.

You can send me a note here or email me (davisark@...) if you're
interested in any of the items. I'll be listing them on ebay in the
next few days if you want to check them out there (seller ID: bftrs2).

Cheers - Alisa

There is a gear swap this Sunday on the Peninsula at Aquan Sports that my AR club is co-hosting. It's rooted in adventure racing (AR) which shares much of the same gear, plus adventure racers are quite diverse... climbers and mountaineers among them. Sell and buy used gear from fellow athletes and browse Aquan and REI (across the street) for new gear! www.baarbd.org

Enjoy!

Hi Sam,

Check out Cascade Climbers. We met several of these guys up on
Rainier last weekend. They would have the beta on what's in the best
condition now and suggestions.
