Here are some of my pictures from the Death Slabs trip in Yosemite led by Susan.

Sorry for all the "tourist" shots, but it was my 1st time in Yosemite.

That rocks.  Thanks for sharing.  Makes me want to blow off work and go play.  Great choice in sound track.

I have a barely used Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket in men's medium sapphire for sale $140.
It could be hung right back on the rack in a store and easily be sold as new.
Below is a link to the manufacturer.

Greetings,

I'll be going to Mount Shasta around mid-July to hike the Avalanche
Gulch route to summit. What sort of snow conditions should I expect at
that time?

Cheers

That is a very easy question. The answer is: none.

Seriously, the AG route is very denuded of snow this year. I was there 3 weeks
ago and flew right over it 2 weeks ago. The AG above helen lake is rock: there
is no more continuous snow/ice path. The approach from horse camp to helen was
be 75% rock. There was ice above red banks to summit, but even 3 weeks ago
patches of the smmit plateau had melted down to rock. West face was in good
condition and pretty fun, but also melting fast (Casaval was completly exposed).
Anyways by mid-july this year you should expect the whole mountain to be
snow-free except for the glacier routes.

Hope this helps.

Serge

I will actually be there from Friday Afternoon on...so
if anyone is in the area early and wants to get in a
moderate route (5.9 or less) let me know. I will be
there thru Sunday.

And on the subject of trolling for partners...I would
really like to do a several day plus trip in the
Palisades this summer. Swiss Arete, U or V Notch,
Traverse from North Pal to Starlight, Starlight
Buttress, Doors of Perception, Starlight- Thunderbolt
Traverse....Any, all or other routes would be great.
I have ropes, Rack, Ice tools, screws etceteras. I am
an approach beast of burden blah blah...

email me if you might be enthused. If only mildly
interested, wait until your enthusiasm develops.;-)

It is a go folks for Lover's Leap and Phantom Spires this weekend with perfect weather predicted.  Highs around 77F and lows around 44F.  Saturday: sunny, Sunday: mostly sunny.

The Spires can be breezy, so some sort of jacket is wise.

The Cragmont club is also going to be at Lover's Leap, so we can critique their technique.

I have Steve, Yoko, and James in my car departing Saturday (meet at 6:00 am and leave at 6:15 am from Concord).  Plan to be at the lodge at 9:00 am and then we can decide on where we will climb.  Bring your own snacks; I may have dinner and breakfast at the lodge.

Rob might secure a camp site for us, otherwise there are a lot of woods around there.

Reply all if you need a ride, can offer a ride, need gear etc.

Please confirm you will be attending the Lover's Leap/Phantom Spires trip scheduled for the weekend after next: Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8.

Currently about twelve people have expressed interest so we could have six show.

My plan is to leave the Touchstone Concord (now Diablo Rock Gym) off Willow Pass in Concord at 6:15 am Saturday morning.  I can take two riders with me.

Let's meet in front of the Strawberry Lodge at 9:00 am Saturday 6/7 where we can pair or quadruple up.  Bring what gear you have.  We can reconvene after climbing at the bar at the Strawberry lodge at say sixish and have a burger and tell tall tales.  For accomodations my plan is to car camp in the national forest behind Strawberry (there are many great spots for free).  Alternatives are the lodge itself or the campground or South Lake Tahoe.  Sunday can be planned Saturday night.

If the weather forecast is dire on Thursday I will send out a cancellation.

Respond all if you need a ride, or can provide a ride, or gear etc.

This is a great trip to practice your skills before heading out into the real wilderness.  So far I have:

Gawlas, Julius - ?
Binz, Annie - Tehachapi
Dohar, Stephanie - SF (possible)
Holl, Susan - San Jose
Hood, Harrison - Santa Rosa (Sunday?)
Lal, Munish - Chico
Makim, Maitrey - San Jose?
Oakes, Chris - Hayward (possible)
Pape, Rick - Reno
Smith, Rob - Morgan Hill

Hey Tom,
That right, I'll be at the Leap Sunday and Monday with my friend Ken Stanton. I was at Phantom last weekend. You are right about the wind but you can always find sun there to climb in. And there is free camping there. I believe they have started charging At the Leap.

I look forward to seeing you and the gang,
H

Don't we want to add the criteria "...and will not hold fraudulent elections"?  :-)

Seriously, what is this all about?  Sounds scandalous!  Is insurgency an option?

What does this means about the YahooGroup?  Will it continue to post meaningful trip info, or will CMG get its own YahooGroup too?

I think the question was more along the lines of, will the Yahoo Group change, do we need to sign up for a new Yahoo group, or do anything at all?  Or, is everything going to stay exactly the same, you'll just start calling yourself the CMG?

Or, maybe I'm totally misunderstanding what's going on.  I'm still new here.

don't have to pay for go on trips with the CMG? I just joined the

Hi, I would like to announce the formation of a new climbing community: the "California Mountaineering Group."

This group is an offshoot of the "California Mountaineering Club" which unfortunately was holding fraudulent elections.

The group is free to join and there are no membership requirements.  There are also no officers, but hopefully there will be volunteers to lead trips.

Here is link to the group website if it is of interest to you:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFCMC/

Sincerely, Tom Cronin

Hi,

Planning a trip to Mount Shasta on June 20-22. I am thinking of using the clear
creek route.

I was wondering if anyone had been there recently or know about snow conditions.

Also, is the trail head accessible with a regular car (normal clearance)? Went
there about 10
years ago and was not sure my car would make it. If it has gotten much worse
since I might
need to find a solution.

Thanks.

Jacques

Hi everyone,

This forum started as a Northern CA offshoot of the CMC but now the
membership is state-wide and we need a name that reflects this. We
just wanted to more formally establish this forum as a California-wide,
separate identity from the CMC. Nothing much has changed for us
climbers. The trips are still on, but the requirement to be a CMC
member has been dropped. Tom alluded to us not liking some of the CMC
politics from a minority of the current board, but I would like to say
that the overwhelming majority of CMC members are safe climbers,
ethical people, and friends who will always have your back.

Let's go climb some stuff!
