In going through my storage I found I still have my Plastic Degre Boots. These
are in great shape (a few light scratches in the shell, soles are great). Plus
they were upgraded to custom foam liners (warm them up in the oven then they
will mold to you). However they do not have insoles (I used superfeet which I
share between boots. With the custom foam liners I have found these boots to be
lighter or as light as most 3 season backpacking boots. The liner says size 11
(they come in even sizes) but I normally wear a 10 - 10 1/2.

They are located in the Richmond area (please no shipping). $40

Emilie Cortes & John Gray- The Upper West Rib of Denali

09/08/2009 - 7:00pm
09/08/2009 - 9:00pm
Meeting Location:
The Summit Room at the Sports Basement, 1177 Kern Ave, Sunnyvale, CA

Emilie Cortes and John Gray, aka Team X Whisperers, formed a 2 person team to face the Upper West Rib of Denali (aka Mt McKinley) in June 2009. It was John's fourth time on Denali and Emilie's first time ever to Alaska. What was it like to suffer day after day uphill in temperatures that vacillated from subzero to boiling with a heavy pack and sled? Did all the logistical planning pay off or did they miss something critical? Did the dreaded "heat collecting volcanic ash" from the Mount Redoubt eruption in March affect the glacier conditions? Did the expedition strain their friendship or strengthen it? Did they summit? All these questions and more will be answered…

Safety Sunday

Posted by: "Leatrice Chang" leachang@...   leachang

Thu Sep 10, 2009 7:50 am (PDT)

Plans were hatched at the social last night to have a pot-pourri of "tips" for efficient climbing for this Sunday's gathering at Cragmont Park. This is a great chance for new(and aspiring)leaders to try out other's racking systems, rope management ideas, and other time savers(more time for climbing!). Seasoned leaders should bring their racks, favorite piece of gear, or emergency must-haves with stories to share.
Of course, we'll be setting up top ropes to climb if that's all you want to do. Starting at 1PM this Sunday at Cragmont Park in Berkeley.
See you on the rock!

CLIMBING ACONCAGUA

Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:34 pm (PDT)

I am looking for people who might be interested in climbing Aconcagua in Argentina with me in December 09. We would be teams of two people with no hierarchy except for one person doing the logistical details for getting our equipment to base camp. The permit to climb the mountain, which we will obtain in Mendoza, is 200-300 dollars according to Secor.
The normal route is what I will be doing. It basically is a hike to the summit. The challenge is the altitude. Aconcagua almost touches 23,000 feet.
If interested send an e-mail or call me at 510-525-2750. Joanie

Hey Everyone,
I am looking for a group to do Shasta with sometime before the end of 2009.
Although right now I am only a beginner, I am determined to see a trip out
before it becomes impossible for me to do so. Aside from a 4 season tent, I have
all of the gear necessary for the trip.

I have tried looking at various guide services but they all say the same thing
about how there is not enough people booking the trips this year to make a
Shasta expedition happen.

With that being said I would appreciate any leads you may have on groups that
are doing the trip. Any tips you have are also appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Hello all!.

A couple of weeks ago I announced the all-new Sierra Journal:
http://www.sierrajournal.com. I'd love it if you would all check it out,
register for the forums and give me your feedback and thoughts. I'm still
working on some of the features, but for the most part is is up and ready to go.

The goal of the site is to create a vibrant, active community of Sierra
climbing, skiing and wilderness fanatics that support each other with beta, trip
reports, gear reviews and the like.

I'm specifically issuing a call for contributors to this group. If any of you
would like to be a regular writer for Sierra Journal, please send your info to
editor@... along with a sample blog post (can be anything related
to Sierra climbing, skiing, backpacking, outdoor gear, trip reports,
environmental news and etc).

You will be recognized with a byline, profile and photo, and rewarded with the
knowledge that you're personally contributing to a community of like-minded
folks.

And please, please register for the forums. My wish is that this becomes a go-to
resource for folks like you, so please let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Matthew DiPietro

Hi everyone,

I have not met any of you yet, but I like this forum and look forward to meeting
some people.

We finally made it up Shasta in July on the 4th....no pictures are up yet but we
just went up the avalanche gulch route. We went to Peru in August and climbed on
Pisco and Huascaran. I had a summit on Pisco but only made it to camp 2 (high
camp) on Huascaran. There were high winds and potentially bad snow conditions,
so we didn't try for the summit. That was ok with me as I was tired and hungry.

Huascaran was interesting and I got to do a little ice climbing in the ice fall.

Next up I'm interested in doing a rock climbing class and then ice climbing
class in the winter.

I have a few of the better pictures up on SummitPost:

http://www.summitpost.org/object_list.php?object_type=3&contributor_id=43931

I have more pictures of Pisco, Huascaran, and the Santa Cruz trek up on flickr:

Eric

Ed Drummond: Between a Rock and a Soft Place--A Climber's Life on the Rocks. He
could use a ride from the city too. His number is (415) 285-0203

From Ed: "As an aging climber fledging from the egg of the ego into the dust
cloud of consciousness that I take to be the breath of death, I see that a major
theme for me has been attempting to balance a life on the ground with one on the
heights, the masculine with the feminine, tenderness and vulnerability, the hard
realism of the rock face with the soft touch of the divine imagination. Between
a Rock and a Soft Place is an autobiographical account of my searches in the
labyrinth for the monster, Answer, as to why on Earth we're here and what in
heaven we're supposed to do before we're not.

I shall attempt to give birth to these and other personal quandra in story and
poem, accompanied by the Harrison Hood choir when necessary."

Ed Drummond, legendary big wall climber and writer, achieved daring first
ascents in the 70s including Arch Wall on the Troll Wall in Norway, St John's
Head in Scotland, and a solo ascent of El Cap's Nose. He is also known for
using his climbing skills to feature political causes, such as an anti-apartheid
protest on Trafalgar Column and other buildings in the US in support of civil
rights causes ("social-political buildering"). Please join us for a climbing
and literary extravaganza this Tuesday.

Please join Hood Mountain Adventures for:

Oct 23-25 for a climbing extravaganza. We will be setting up different levels of
routes which will provide a greater opportunity for folks to familiarize
themselves with the wonders of sport climbing. Friday we will carpool and set up
camp. Saturday we will climb all day. And on Sunday we will climb in the morning
and then head home.

This is a perfect way to start your leading carrier. Our fun camp out at the
Eastside's best sport climbing area will get you on the sharp end of the rope.
Learn to clip and climb the safe and perfered way while expanding your climbing
performance and experience.

For $190 HMA will provide the ropes, hardware, expertise and the kitchen. We
will organize the pot luck and ride shares as participants confirm their
availability. You will need to provide your personal climbing gear for this
event.

November 8 Anchor clinic
This hands on course is a comprehensive next step for the gym climber, boulderer
or even sport and beginning outdoor climber who would like to learn more about
placing protection, setting anchors for top rope climbing and belay stations.
Also by the end of the day we will have gone over how to make bomb proof
anchors, rescue systems, safety and rescue techniques There is a ton off tricks
knots and skills taught through out the day, so I advise bringing a note book.
All the protection is provided. $75

Hey CMG:

We have some openings in our ski share in South Lake Tahoe (Near the intersection of 89 and 50).  We're a bunch laid back but non-flakey guy and girl backcountry/kirkwood/heavenly skiers ranging from late 20's to early 30s.  We are generally varying levels of abilities.

Our ski condo is a very nice large place with a 6 - 8 person hot tub, large living room, large kitchen and dining room, pool table, garage, queen, king, and couch pull out beds.  Our lease goes from 12/15/09 - 4/15/10.

Joining our ski lease would cost approximately $800 for the entire winter!  You would be hard pressed to find a better deal.  Guests are allowed for a nightly fee of $25.

Please email me ASAP if you are interested.  We need to get our final people in before the end of the month.

Regards,

Dave
