It's time for the monthly RR meeting again.  This month Megan Delehanty will be showing slides from her attempt on Everest from North Side.  Anna Sommer has bravely offered to host the meeting at her place in Berkeley.  Also as usual at the meeting we get to talk climbing, recruit partners, and generally pretend that climbers have social lives.  Don't forget to bring food and drinks to share.

Who: YOU!
What: RR monthly meeting
When: August 7, 7:00 p.m.
Where: 617 60th St

This should be a great slide show so don't miss it

Directions:

So the place is pretty easy to find.  If you're doing the public transit thing, take BART to Ashby, walk down Woolsey St. towards Shattuck, turn right on Shattuck and walk until you hit 60th St.  I'm the white house with blue trim; street number is 617.  Folks can call 617-838-9910 if they are lost.  Driving directions are probably easiest by just googling them from wherever you're starting from.

Hello

I am a recent member of this group from Hanford (central valley).
Looking for climbing/mountaineering folks-I have class 3 & 4
experience and a lil' class 5. I can't always solo. Eastern & Western
Sierra fine by me. I can lead you on the Whitney Mountaineer's route,
or maybe the Pear Lake Ski Hut for snow shoeing.

Nice to meet you Chad.

We do a little of alpine everything: rocks, mountains, ice, skiing,
focusing on alpine mostly but we're not above hitting the crags for
practice too.

This last weekend we did the west ridge on Conness; the week before
Tom led a group on Temple crag.

Hi Everyone,

I don't know how many of you know and climb with Rob Yang (probably a
lot!), but please keep him in your thoughts or prayers or whatever your
tradition is. He was in a car accident on Thursday night and is in the
hospital in Modesto, apparently with spinal injuries. I haven't talked
to him yet. Here is all I know:

Conness was great fun - amazing climb that actually lives up to its
reputation. It was really windy but everyone got up and down safely.
I'll post the pictures (wish I had taken more) to the photos spot
when I get a chance.

Thank you for the warm reception. I just completed a night hike of Half Dome with four others. One of the fellows was celebrating his 50th birthday with this, his first hike. He was nervous on the cables at 2 A.M., but he and the rest made it up and down after sunrise.
Anyways, Thursdays/Fridays are my days off from work. I find outings are more satisfying as I avoid crowds on the trails and peaks. If anyone is scheduling a mountaineering trip around Sept 6,7,8 or 13, 14, 15, I would gladly go. I am near the Sequoia's and Yosemite, but I don't mind driving over to Lone Pine or Big Pine.

thanks

It may be short notice, but As I live near the Sequoia's and Yosemite
I'm free for an outing this Thursday/Friday and/or next
Thursday/Friday. Or perhaps a dayhike of the Mountaineers Route at
Whitney.
I completed a night hike (vice dayhike)of Half Dome last friday night.
Avoided all the tourists on the cables, a much more rewarding
experience.

Hey Tom,
I'll take advantage of it.  A friend and myself will be in the area that weekend.  Friday night 9/14 we'll be sleeping at Saddlebag Lake as we'll be doing the north ridge/west ridge link-up of Conness on Saturday 9/15.  Would love to camp that Saturday night at Tuolomne group site B.

Thanks Tom!

Phil, Tom:

I climbed the Dana Couloir on August 18th.  The couloir on 8/18 was mostly neve transitioning to ice.  The crux is the bergshrund (70-degree, 20 feet high).  See my pics at:

Tom-

The Dana couloir would be a one day climb and we could do some domes the other day, correct?

As to timing, I imagine that the earlier would be better for snow/ice conditions.  And 9/22 is Yom Kippur that might be a problem for some (will be for my family).

I am just trying to get the dates so I can schedule my other activities for the fall.
