Description

Building a good relationship with Government is a very important aspect of building the Canadian Culture of Peace Program. The U.N. Culture of Peace Program, to which Canada is a signatory, calls on the transformation of all institutions (including Government) from a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace and Non-violence. We have initiated a Group for dialogue, information sharing and networking with respect to Governments and the Canadian Culture of Peace Program. Our primary goal/intention: to help the Governments of Canada implement a Culture of Peace program; that governments work/make decisions using the COP as a measurement indicator of peace, order and good governance; help governments to be peace leaders and peace educators; establish a good working relationship between the Governments of Canada and CCOPP; governments to support CCOPP to help advance a Culture of Peace and Non-violence at home and abroad. Our Selling points: supports the Canadian Constitution (by building peace, order and good governance); raises international profile of Canada as a world leader in establishing Peace and in peacebuilding; give Canadians a competitive edge, through cooperation (i.e. a new form of ‘currency’; there is a growing Peace Industry in Canada, available for export and Peace Tourism); creates a better country by improving the quality of life for Canadians, reducing violence (in our homes, schools, communities, and internationally), and lowering cost of results of violence (as above) through Criminal Justice, Health and Education systems. It is timely to develop a strategy and action plan for working with Governments to build peace. If you have the interests and skills to help, we invite you to join the CCOPPgovernment Group. Join us on the email listserver for the next round of discussion on planning to build the Canadian Culture of Peace Program relationships with the Federal, Provincial/Territorial and Municipal Governments across Canada.
