Description

A Canadian Culture of Peace Program free flow of information email listserver has been set up to facilitate participatory communication and the free flow of information and knowledge by means of such actions as support for independent media in the promotion of a culture of peace; effective use of media and mass communications; measures to address the issue of violence in the media; knowledge and information sharing through new technologies and a Culture of Peace News Network to build a Culture of Peace and Non-violence at home and abroad. There is an emerging consensus among Canadians that the structures and processes which would enhance peace learning of the best possible quality at all levels are not currently available in Canada due to a lack of alternative media resources and the free flow of information. We would hope to begin to fill that void through the creation of a Culture of Peace News Network in Canada ("CPNN-Canada") and a key Stakeholder Group in our Canadian Culture of Peace Program Network. Our vision is to contribute to the creation of a just and peaceful world by using free flow of information, media, education, training, information dissemination and research to build a Culture of Peace and Non-violence. Our Task will be to help inform Canadians, and others, about peace, the creative transformation of conflicts, and skills for living together, to help significantly reduce the human costs of violence at home and abroad. For a more detailed description of our working vision, refer to the background information online at http://www.peace.ca/CCOPPfreeflowofinformation.htm or contact stewartr@peace.ca . Join us on the email listserver for the next round of discussion on free flow of information, media and CPNN-Canada: resources for building the Canadian Culture of Peace Program through information. Please pass this message to anyone that you might know who might have skills and/or interest.
