Description

The Cherokee Capital Amateur Radio Society was organized in December of 1996. In June of 1998 the club partnered with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) the national organization of amateur radio and became an official Affiliated Club. Due to the club’s commitment to community service, emergency communications, and the advancement of amateur radio it was granted a Special Service Club (SSC) status in February 1999, of which it still holds.
Our club is a community-focussed organization made up of Amateur Radio Operators from Gordon county and the surrounding area. Our membership includes operators of all ages and from Technician to Amateur Extra Class. Our club is open to all licensed operators, as well as those who are interested in becoming an Amateur (ham) Radio Operator. The club provides help for those wishing to become licensed operators by providing entry-level classes. The club also provides testing of all elements through its Volunteer Examiner (VE) Team. The club hosts an annual hamfest, participates in Field Day activities, and provides communications for community activities.
Members join together during times of inclement weather activating a local weather net to keep track of impending severe weather. Our operators also participate in emergency communications when needed by the community. Members train and improve their skills by participating in drills and training through the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) under the direction of the local Emergency Coordinator (EC). As further training ARES members take part in the Skywarn storm spotter training and program provided by the National Weather Service.
Monthly meetings are held the third Monday of each month. Meetings are held at the Gordon County Extension Office located at 1 McDaniel Station Rd. Calhoun, GA. A weekly net is also held every Tuesday at 9 PM local time on the K4WOC club repearters of 443.675 (pl 100), 146.745-, and the KC4AQS 146.805+ repeater.
