CBD_Guidelines provides a forum for the discussion about the preparation of “International Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism and Biodiversity” under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The forum has been created by Ecological Tourism in Europe (ETE), a German NGO working on international processes. The forum will provide information on the process of preparing guidelines and on upcoming events.

In 1999, the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD) invited the CBD to take part in the preparation of “International Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism”, and in 2000, the CBD accepted this invitation at its 5th meeting. With support from the German Environment Ministry, the Secretariat of CBD will host an expert workshop for the preparation of guidelines from 4 -7 June 2001 in the Dominican Republic.

In this very short time before the workshop, ETE would like to share with you the information about this process. For those not invited to the workshop, we will collect your comments and present them during the workshop. The results will be posted in this forum; if a certain interest has been demonstrated, this forum will continue until SBSTTA7 in November 2001.
