CAPCG Minutes: 5/20/2009
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. at the First Congregational Church
in Elmhurst, IL. Those in attendance included: Gretchen, Mary Lynne, Karen,
Susan K., Iris, Wilda, Sally, Gina, Nikki, Susan, Anne, Millicent, Becky, Diana,
Cathy, Jenny, Marji, and Rita.
General Business / Member Announcements
Reports
President
• Jenny welcomed three visitors to the meeting.
• A reminder: The National Retreat will be held July 11-14, 2009
• The International Polymer Clay Association Retreat has posted new information
about a reduced rate for the retreat and also pricing for one-day passes. Be
sure to visit www.npcg.org for more details on the updated pricing and other
information.
• The CAPCG annual retreat will be held at LOMC in Oregon, IL October 9 – 12,
2009.
• Jenny asked for a member to volunteer to act at the liaison between the
International Polymer Clay Association (formerly the National Polymer Clay
Guild) and the CAPCG. Gretchen volunteered to be the liaison.
VP
• On Saturday May 30, 2009 the guild will be hosting a one day workshop with
Polymer Clay artist Marla Frankenberg. Details about the workshop including the
materials you need to bring are posted on the Yahoo group site. So far there are
16 individuals registered and paid for the workshop; the limit is 20 people.
• The workshop will be held in the "Friendship Hall" area of the church and
starts at 10:00am. It is recommended that you come early in order to set up your
work station and be ready to work by 10:00.
• "Friendship Hall" is located on the lower level at the west end of the
building. When you get to the bottom of the stairs turn right and go all the
way to end of the hallway to find the room.
Treasurer
• The current balance is $1,992.88. The bulk of this balance comes from the
paid workshop fees.
• Cathy handed out a completed roster and new membership cards to all paid
members.
• Two of the visitors at tonight's meeting joined the guild.
Librarian
• Wilda received two new DVDs to add to the library collection. The first is a
Tory Hughes DVD on making faux turquoise; the second is on making specialty
shaped Inro boxes. Wilda reviewed both DVDs and reported that both are very
comprehensive with good projects and great instruction.
Program Coordinator
• Diana outlined the upcoming demos that are planned and asked members to
volunteer for demos and/or swaps, or make suggestions.
Secretary
• Donations to Beads of Courage are still being encouraged. Gretchen will be
placing a small bin on the table near the show and tell items for collection
each month. A nice accumulation of donated beads has started between what was
brought in April and this month. Once a large enough batch of beads has been
collected Gretchen will ship a box to the program coordinator in Arizona.
Raffle Item
• The raffle item for this month was the first opportunity to checkout two new
DVDs that were added to the library.
• A small bouquet of lilacs brought in by Marji was also raffled off.
• There is still an open call for donation of items for the raffles.
Program
The Bottles of Hope Challenge scheduled for this month has been postponed to the
June meeting due to a lack of entries.
Upcoming Events
• June 17, 2009 – CAPCG Birthday Party, the celebration will consist of "clay
play-day", food and drinks, the Bottles of Hope Challenge, and a demonstration
of Mokume Gane using inks by Jenny Bezingue.
• July 15, 2009 – Gretchen Amberg will demonstrate how to make the "smoosh" cane
that Lisa Pavelka taught at the CHA show last year.
• August 19, 2009 – Gretchen Amberg will demonstrate how to make a Kumihimo
braid using beads.
