Dan,

The rapid move problem seems to have gone away. Maybe somewhere something got
corrupted. The sizing problem is still very much a problem. Every file I have
tried is reduced in size 2.5 times. I'll send you some files to look at.

where it does a rapid return where Z remains at depth and doesn't raise for the
move. Anyone have similar problems?

Digi-key has quite a few mechanical encoders.  I'm sure many would do the job electronically, but to get the same mechanical form factor might be a bigger challenge.
Here's a link to one of Digi-key many encoders:

Not sure at all about the mechanical fit compatibility though.  Details you would need to check into.

Here's what happened...I purchased a few mechanical encoders from Digikey and
found that the one Randall suggested was the closest match. It has a slightly
larger diameter mounting thread and the hole in the PCB had to be enlarged by a
few thousandths. The knob shaft had to be trimmed in diameter a bit too. The 36
pulse encoder does work but for some reason, it registers one digit with every
three "clicks". (The original was one for one and had 50 positions) Anyway, it
does work and gets the job done well enough. Thanks for the help Randall!

Hi I am trying to program my PNC300 using Desk Proto.

I create the toolpaths from my STL geometry and use the PNC3000 (no spindle
control post processor). (metric mm). I take the file and open in notepad
selecting print and selecting the roland as my printer. The machine moves but
does not cut as the toolpaths suggest.

Any help as I am lost as to the cause of the problem.

Can I suggest if you are machining STLs you ditch the desk proto and download
Toolchips Quickmill from www.toolchips.com and also download the plug in for the
Roland Camm3 and then you can start machining. I have used this since 1989 it
does work as my modelmaking business relies on it.

Try Roland Modela Player.
You can download it from our files section. You can import your STL files and
directly output to the PNC-3000 from that.
Give it a try.

Hi All -

I have a pnc - 2500 complete with manuals, upgraded material holder & software.
I purchased 2 spare motors from Roland 10 years ago and I installed the last of
these pretty recently - so it has run only very few hours. It's an amazing
little work-horse and continues to work great. I have done engraving and cut dxf
files like a dream....but I'm moving out of state and need to let it go... the
machine is in Los Angeles, CA.....anyone interested???

Thanks!

A bit of advice before you start using the machine Adam, check that the fuses
are the correct rating for the machine, one is in an unscrewable holder near the
on off switch and the other two are inside the back on the main motherboard. If
you try to machine something and the cutter jams but doesn't break it will
forcibly stop the motor and the fuses should blow, but if they are incorrectly
rated it will blow the motor controller board [ a small seperate board that
houses the motor speed controller ]and I had the last spare in the 1990's!

I had a blown motor controller on my PNC-3000 and finally found a source
(obsolete parts broker) of the Sanken motor drivers modules in China. I had to
place a minimum order of $200. so I still have quite a few left over. If anyone
ever needs one, I'll sell them for $15.00 each + shipping.

It's been a while since the subject of replacement belts has come up; has
anyone found a new source for replacement belts for the PNC-3000 series?

Does anyone have a PNC-3000 that they are stripping parts from?

If you try to machine something and the cutter jams but doesn't break it will forcibly stop the motor and the fuses should blow, but if they are incorrectly rated it will blow the motor controller board [ a small seperate board that houses the motor speed controller ]and I had the last spare in the 1990's!

The specifications for the modules can now be found in the files/parts folder
for this group. If anyone is interested, you can send a direct email to me
(rlogan@...) with your shipping info and I can determine a
shipping cost for your area.

I should also mention that the modules I purchased were described as "New,
removed from new OEM equipment" so they do have some solder residue on the pins.
I had no problems with the ones I put into my unit but I will provide a full
refund for any modules that don't work.

If anyone is looking for other replacement components for their PNC-3000 I may
be able to help as my job often has me searching for obsolete components.

Thanks,

Randall

Forgot to mention that there is also a photo of one of the modules in the photos
file.

Hi All, I am thinking about getting some colletts custom made for my camm 3, I
had a set made a few years ago but I wasn't involved directly with their
manufacture and they weren't totally good enough.
I have realised I am not going to find any spares anywhere so am going to get a
set made locally by precision engineers here in the UK.
If anybody also wants a set please email me at cadcamcreations@...
think very carefully before sending a message as I think the cost was between
£200-£300 pounds and I don't want to be lumbered with loads of spare sets to pay
for.The sizes will be 3mm/3.175mm[1/8in]/4mm/5mm or 6.35mm[1/4 in].[ 5mm not
that useful?]

Regards

Graham

Hello Graham,

Just to clarify, you saying that a complete set of collets (4 pieces) will be
~£200-£300 ?

Do you suppose that most of this is machining setup charges for a single set and
if you order more than one set the price/set will drop? (eg. £300 for one set,
£350 for two sets, etc)?

Thanks,

Randall
