"The context of metta practice:
there are four practices
that are traditionally taught together
in a kind of bundle:
together they are called the four Brahma-viharas
(metta, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity).
"Brahma" is a word that means
celestial or supreme or heavenly.
One translation I heard of the word
which I liked a lot was "best".
So Brahma can be considered "best";
and "vihara" means "dwelling" or "abiding" or "home."
So taken together these four qualities form our "Best Home."
