“Maisha na Maji” ("Life and Water" or "Living Water" in Swahili) is the name of the United Methodist Mission in Bunda, Tanzania. Projects include drilling wells, building simple hand pumps and bio-sand filters, and providing health/hygiene training. Local persons are trained to build the hand pumps and filters so that they can provide safe water, eliminate water born illnesses, and provide independent local employment. The mission, directed by Rev. Charles and Karen Wiggins, also supports the Bunda library, teacher training scholarships, bicycles for evangelists, Swahili Bibles, mosquito nets, orphan support, church construction, youth ministries, evangelist training, and medical mission trips.
Arkansas' CVUMC (Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, www.cvmethodist.org) regularly sends a mission team headed by Jerry and Amy Buckingham to assist in various aspects of this work. You are invited to support their work with your prayers, ideas, suggestions, good wishes and/or dollars. Please feel free to check here for mission updates, to pose your questions and comments, and to communicate with Jerry and Amy. They will post replies here as time and opportunity allow.
