Bombay-Dost Yahoo! Group--Building a platform for queer expression
With its re-launch, ‘Bombay Dost’ magazine once again offers an avenue for expressing and showcasing the rainbow of alternate sexualities and gender identities in India.
The Internet Age, which has come after the launch of Bombay Dost in 1990, has made queer expression, in some ways, more accessible. Yet, the Internet has come with its flipside of problems, including an acute lack of quality, coherent material; and a systematic origination, nurturing, direction and publication of such material online. There’s no lack of talent waiting to bloom in our LGBT and Bombay Dost would like to provide a fertile platform for its growth.
Bombay Dost magazine, in its new avatar, aims to create this platform, with your help and participation, through its existing Bombay-Dost Yahoo! Group. We hope to make this online group a forum where ideas can be fully articulated and talent of every kind can be discovered, developed and displayed.
Importantly, this forum is not to be restricted to ONLINE queer creativity and rights advocacy. The forum’s ultimate aim is a tangible amount of real-world expression, not just in ‘Bombay Dost’ magazine but in an endless variety of other forms: books; films, short films and documentaries; photography; art and performing art (from the traditional to cutting-edge)…. Just choose what appeals to you most.
Please shamelessly promote your ideas and opinions on this forum. And please do think out of the box. Wherever there seems a possibility of taking a project offline, into the brick-and-mortar world, Bombay Dost will endeavour to find the funding and collaborators required to make that possible.
Welcome to your platform for creative expression.
