I have the Lead Keel Weight from a 16' Bolger Micro.

I was told that it was the spec weight of 400 #'s but have not weighed it
myself.

I am asking $300.00 obo ( I can get about $250 scrapping it ).

I burned off all the old wood and fiberglass, and in doing so I bent it as you
can see in the following pictures.

Are you looking for lead for the keel of your next build?

I have approx. 1,000 pounds of lead more than I need. It was originally
professionally cast from new ingots for a sailboat keel that was never finished,
sadly the builder gave up, then died, the hull rotted away. I salvaged the keel
and have now cut it into chunks weighing 50 - 100 pounds each. Located in CA,
Monterey county. If you're close enough to make transport economical and need
lead, make me an offer.

There are pics on the chebacco.com site. I'm not sure of regular ones, but
there are lots of pics of the cruiser version, which is the one I have.

My lapstrake Chewbacco is the backpackers dream boat. room for two to
sleep easily but why? The cockpit is the nicest space on that boat,
especially with a decent bimini.

I don't think I publicly thanked Bruce for his quick shipping of the MAIBs I
bought from him.

THANK YOU.

Reading the articles and even scanning the old classifieds has given me great
pleasure. A very good investment.

To bad your not in the South. I'm in Central Texas and
I have the perfect Micro for you.
Built in '94, I got her around '02.
Been sailing the paint off her untill I blew out the rudder in a wind storm Last
year on canyon lake.
Shes got a lot of life left in her I just dont have the gumption to do the work.

http://mmg.photobucket.com/albums/aaronthekid/The%20%20HMRS%20%20Goomah/

$600
Trailers OK at best, but very much road worthy
Sails are good
New balanced lug main mast with aluminum top boom and new wood bottom
Mizzen in great shape
Some soft spots around tabernacle
Interior painted only
Custom MICRO hanging bag.

I have the mast and boom and sails to rig a standard sail if you dont like the
Balanced Lug.

I listed her for sale on this group a few months ago but didnt hear anything. I
bought it through Sailing Texas . com and plan to list her there this spring.
But would rather it goes to a Bolgerhead.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, to bad you are so far away. If only I could twist my
buddies arm, Chuck Lienweber to drag it up here on one of his excursions to the
NW. There's a guy here in town that built one, been trying to talk him out of
his. Just might have to build one myself.

Hello,

I know this isn't Bolger (though he did do a design for a larger Viking boat -
see Boats With an Open Mind). However, I know a lot of us are interested in
small boat construction in general. So I decided to post this because the
monograph in question is rare and someone out there may have an interest.

For those of you who are interested in Viking boats, or may want to build a
Viking faering (four-oared boat) based on the Gokstad find, a copy of the
publication describing construction is on e-Bay. It's called "The Building and
Trials of the Replica of an Ancient Boat: The Gokstad Faering", and it was
published by the (British) National Maritime Museum.

If you're looking for a project boat to finish, check out "Island Time" over in
the photo section.

She is a AS29 that was built in 1994 by a professional yard in Florida out of
fiberglass. The original owner had an offset 1200# swing keel put in instead of
the leeboards and added lead internal ballast. He also made the bow pointed and
designed an open transom which is really nice for getting provisions on board
while at anchor. I sailed her, in her original configuration, up and down the
East Coast (including a little offshore work in 10' seas) for over a year before
starting modifications to make her more livable. A divorce caused me to stop
working, and now I've decided that I'm ready to settle down here in Kansas.

She comes with aluminum mast, maisail, boom, cushions, anchors, and a great '03
Loadmaster aluminum I-beam, three axle trailer with disc brakes. There are lots
of the little parts sitting in my storeroom as well. Things like bilge pumps,
foot pumps, interior lights, fans, etc. it all goes with her.

I'd like to get $7000 for everything.

I'm spring cleaning and have accumulated too many sets of boat plans again. I'm

I think that they make great art for the office or study, even if you don't
build a boat.

Send me email directly if you are interested - don't post to the list.

I am very interested as I have 3 young boys who would like to learn to sail
and I would like to take them camp cruising. Some questions.
Is the trailer in good shape for a thruway trip? (I'm in Buffalo)

Does the boat have the necessary numbers and stuff to be able to register and
insure it?

Is there any rot that you know of? (not a deal breaker, just trying to see the
extent of the work)

How soon do you need the boat to be gone?

Lots of questions, I'm afraid. Please be patient with them:

-How is the boat powered, absent the AS29's stern mounted outboard? --Is the
sail plan as originally designed?
-I've always liked the idea of extending the doghouse forward to make a more
traditional trunk cabin. Is the headroom a full 6'?
-Is she fiberglass or plywood encapsulated in cloth? Epoxy?
-Do you know or can you estimate her displacement? Weight of boat and trailer?
-Is interior layout changed from original?
-Why are there concrete blocks in the cockpit?
More to follow, probably.

Grateful for your attention.

Thanks for your interest.

The boat was powered with a 4-stroke Yamaha 9.9 mounted on a bracket centered on
the stern. It pushed the boat at 6.5kts burning 1/2 gal/hr. The motor was a '94.
I passed it on to a stranded cruiser.

There is 6' headroom at the companionway. As you go forward it drops to about
5'9".

The original hull is solid fiberglass layed up with vinylester resin. I
insulated the hull by attaching tapered polyurethane foam panels (3' to 11/2")
to the exterior of the original hull and then glassing over using diagonal
biased cloth w/mat(DBM) four layers thick with an addition three layers at the
chine and deck. There are several advantages to adding the insulation. It stops
interior sweating, stiffens the hull sides, and adds three inches to the
sidedecks for safety. The total width is still road legal at 8'6".

Her current weight is around 7500lbs. the trailer weighs 1500lbs, and is rated
to 10,500lbs. It pulls easily behind a 1-ton dually at 70mph.

Yes, the interior is different. Starting forward and working aft, there is a
chain locker, storage area athwart ships, then shelves port and starboard;
headroom in this area is about 4'6". Entering the main cabin the headroom
increases, there are 7' settees port and starboard w/the starboard settee being
a couple of inches wider than the port. Both are quite comfortable, and there is
a huge amount of storage under thanks to the hull shape. Aft of the settees: to
port is the galley and to starboard is the offset swing-keel and the head (the
stainless steel tanks in the pics are in the head. they are 12"X12"X48" tanks).
Under the cockpit is a queen-sized berth. When I redid the cabin top, I expanded
the head area a few inches, but didn't move any bulkheads. I did lengthen the
bridgedeck by cutting the cockpit down to six feet to open up the master berth a
little. Aft of the master, midship is a storage area where I believe the
outboard would be in the original design. In the cockpit there are deep lockers
port and starboard aft. Aft of the cockpit are recesses for 2 six gallon
outboard tanks.

The concrete blocks are being used to hold a piece of Hardy board over the
companionway to keep snow and rain out. I'll throw them into the deal if you
want them.:)

If you have more questions, just ask. I have done a lot of thinking about the
changes I have made and those planned. I will gladly share them with you.

stop working, and now I've decided that I'm ready to settle down here in Kansas.

I missed your first question in my previous response. I did plan a new sail plan
based on having sailed her. The Bowsprit was added to accomodate a headsail and
I planned on moving the maststep aft to create a sloop. The mainsail is a large
roached full-battened sail with a 24' hoist and 20' foot. Think catamaran. I had
planned on four stays, no spreaders, from the deck to the top of the mast (two
on each side) with a tabernacle for lowering the mast.

Hello
I live in Florida and am interested in buying a micro or long micro. Partly
finished might be OK too. Must be in Florida or someplace close.
Thanks, Bob 727 253 7670

Dear Stephenie, I just searched for you and found this old message to the Bolger
group, not one of our exchanges about the Micro. I am going to be bringing the
Micro to Florida at the end of the month and wonder whether you are still
interested in it or in some arrangement involving it. If you remember our talk,
there was a thin possibility we could combine with a fellow on St. John who
contacted me about it. In any case, I could part with it after my play-period
around St. Petersburg the first two weeks of April. I'd like to meet you anyway.
Do get back in touch with me, please. Mason

For anyone interested, I am presently selling a few of my archived
copies of Messing About in Boats magazines on eBay. As you know,
these contain the excellent Bolger articles, and the bulk of available
Phil Bolger writings are only available in these out of print
   magazines.
