West Marine can order a setup with both brackets going up which is what I was going to use with an adjustable 3 rung ladder.

You are 100% right and I think there is a 2 rungs model available somewhere. That holding bracket under it, it needs to be attached to the stern to support it. It seems it is at least 8-10" long. If you can see a real model and simulate the attachment on the stern... otherwise, make sure you can send it back.

I loved that model as well.
I have been tempted to get it as well more than once. It is just that lower bracket that makes me scratch my had...
I was looking at other styles as well. Here in the US the distributors are carrying a very small number of options, luckily being Italian I was exploring other countries solutions to ladders:

And I still believe that probably a custom solution might be the best for the bucks and style.
