This is a tricky problem. What I did was buy nylon straps and metal clamps. The straps are tied to the sides of the sidecar wherever you can tie them down, and one coming from the back of the sidecar. attach a metal clamp or hook onto the ends of the straps which will hook then onto the back of your dogs harness after he's been placed in the sidecar. I use a comfortable harness for my dog that's normally used as a seat belt for dogs. Amazon sells them and I'm sure other places too. Here's the link for the one I bought from amazon.com:

What I would encourage you to do is place a couple of pillows into the floor of the sidecar so your dogs head can see over the top. Then I suggest teaching your dog to lay down while you ride. If your dog can't see over the top he won't want to lay down and it's scary when they stand. I would also offer a suggestion to buy "Doggles" to protect your dogs eyes since particles can hit their eyes. They're available on a lot of websites if you google it. Also I like to put "Mutt Muffs" on my dogs ears when going on longer rides because the engine noise is extra loud for dogs. I'll include a link of my dog to show you how her car is setup. This was taken before she learned to stay seated and before I added an extra pillow for her comfort.
