Welcome to the Beyond-Hearing Group! Beyond-Hearing is a great place to talk about living in mainstream society with hearing loss, often partial or acquired. Topics range from the technical to the supportive; if it's about hearing loss, then it's on-topic.
If you are interested in subscribing, please see the Beyond-Hearing Web Support Pages. There you can find details on how to subscribe, unsubscribe, guidelines, and privacy information. You can also submit a "bio" if you wish, to introduce yourself, and you can get a head start on hearing loss by reading the glossary and articles. All these things are linked from the yellow index at that page.
Many subscribers are people who have some degree of hearing loss from mild to total deafness, but are trying to maximize their ability to continue with spoken language as their primary form of communication. Some subscribers are friends or family of people with hearing loss. Other subscribers are professionals willing to share their experience with others.
Beyond-Hearing was started and run for many years as a listserve by Dr. Miriam (Mimi) Clifford, but the torch has now been passed to Emilie Quast and the list is run as a Yahoo Group.
Beyond-Hearing is not related to Hearing Loss Association of America (see HLAA Web Site), but many subscribers are HLAA members and the topics closely align with HLAA interests.
