Chamblee Police Crime Report for December 29, 2008
Everyone knows the song that goes “He’s making a list, checking it twice. Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice…”
Well Santa, I hope you are reading this because we got a few names for you to cross out for next year. It seems that the city jail was the Christmas place for quite a few people this year. What ever happened to sitting around the fireplace and singing carols?
Robbery
3219 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd 12/23 9:00 pm
A man reported that he was standing outside of the store when he was approached by three men armed with a handgun. Before they got a chance to say “stick em’ up”, he began yelling “POLICE!”. The robbers ran away with nothing.
3146 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd 12/25 12:50 am
A man reported that he was robbed by three men that had come up behind him as he walked down the sidewalk. The men were armed with a pistol and demanded his cash. After robbing him, they ran different directions.
Pearl Lane 12/26 2:30 am
A man reported that he was robbed outside of his apartment by two men armed with a pistol. The robbers fled in a gray car.
Assault
3417 Cumberland Ct. 12/25 12:30 am
A man reported that an acquaintance came to his apartment and punched him in the face. Officers found the man and he claimed that he struck the man because he kicked his sister in the leg. As officers sorted through the events of the call, the second man tried to run away. He was arrested and spent Christmas in jail.
Burglary
3219 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd 12/22
Burglars pried open the back door at a small grocery store. The alarm sounded and nothing was taken.
5389 New Peachtree Rd 12/25
Burglars pried open the door of the bakery and stole the cash register.
Property Damage
Clairview Drive 12/27
A man reported that he was awakened by the sound of gunfire. The next morning, he found that someone had shot holes in his car.
5500 Block of New Peachtree 12/28
A man reported that he left his car parked in the apartment complex while he went drinking with his friends. When he returned, he found it in a different parking space with body damage. He had left the keys in the car and obviously someone “borrowed” it.
McDonalds on Peachtree Blvd 12/28 1:00 pm
A lady reported that while sitting in the drive thru line at McDonalds, the driver of the car behind her got out and hit her car with a ball bat. The man then fled the scene.
4815 Buford Hwy 12/24 2:30 am
The motel manager reported that someone smashed a window in one of the rooms.
3238 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd 12/25 3:00 am
Officers responded to a call of a broken window. The lady there reported that her neighbor had been harassing her and smashed her window. Officers went next door and asked the neighbor if he knew anything about this. He told the officers that he smashed the window. He also spent Christmas in jail.
102 Wiggins Way 12/26 9:00 pm
Two unknown suspects fired three shots into an apartment window and fled in a gray truck. No one was injured.
Theft
4815 Buford Hwy 12/22
Officer Lory found a stolen 1997 Nissan Pathfinder parked at the motel. He impounded the vehicle so that it could be returned to its owner. It had been stolen in Gwinnett County.
WalMart 12/23
While shopping, a lady left her cart unattended while she walked down an aisle to look at toys. She left her purse in the cart while she was away. Bad move. When she returned, the purse was gone. Of course. Someone turned in the purse but $500 in cash was missing.
5400 Block of Peachtree Rd 12/25
A resident reported the theft of his 1982 Chevrolet truck. The truck is gold in color and has a Chamblee sticker and an American flag sticker in the rear window. Its tag number is AAY1292..
WalMart 12/26
Another case of a theft from a purse at WalMart. A lady went to pay for her purchases when she realized that someone had stolen her wallet from her purse while she shopped. Please, always keep your purse with you. If you leave it in the cart, someone will steal it.
Other Arrest
3242 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd 12/25 3:40 am
An Officer responded to a domestic disturbance and arrested a man for an act of domestic violence. A roommate, not the domestic violence victim, became irate and began hindering the Officer by screaming and yelling. Both he and the first man went to jail. Two more in jail for Christmas.
Why is it that some people want to draw so much attention to themselves when they know that they are breaking the law? Why do some people go out of their way to get arrested for some stupid act? The only thing that I can think of is that they want to be this week’s MORON OF THE WEEK.
Here is this week’s winner.
While on patrol, an Officer sees three people crammed into the front seats of a small car driving down the street. The car has no tag so the Officer stops it. It turns out that the car’s back seat had been removed and everyone had piled into the front for lack of anywhere else to sit. The middle passenger was actually sitting on the gear shift and we don’t know how in the world the driver could have changed gears. Anyway, no tag, no driver’s license, no insurance and no seatbelts. It’s almost like they were screaming “Arrest Me!” If it was indeed their goal to end up in this report, they got their wish.
With New Year’s Eve coming up this week, I will probably have a doozy of a story to tell next Monday.. So until then, please be safe and please don’t drink and drive.
