Washington -
President Bush Meets With Chabad Rabbis.
Washington
- Fort Collins Rabbi Yerachmiel Gorelick was among 10 Chabad rabbis from around
the world chosen to meet today with President Bush in the Oval Office.
Gorelick said Bush spoke about his support of Israel, his experiences in the White
House and other topics during the brief meeting, which marked Education and
Sharing Day, an annual commemoration of the work done by the Chabad Lubavitch
movement in Judaism.
The Fort Collins rabbi, who leads the Chabad Center of Northern Colorado, was
the first of the rabbis to meet with Bush individually and was immediately
teased by the president.
"He asked me where I was from. When I told him Colorado he said, 'We have
a flock out there? What are there, three of you out there?'" Gorelick
recalled with a laugh shortly after his meeting with Bush.
Gorelick said he was chosen by the Chabad leadership to participate in the
meeting because of his high-profile – and largely unsuccessful – efforts to get
a menorah included in Fort Collins' official holiday displays the past three
Decembers.
He presented Bush a menorah during the Oval Office visit.
