This group is a discussion of the life and public portrayal
of Banastre Tarleton, Lt. Col. in the British Legion
during the American Revolution, and later General and
Knight of the Bath. He was born August 21, 1754 and passed
away on January 16, 1833. Serving as the right hand to
General Cornwallis, he was famous for the skill he had
with his Green Dragoons in the southern colonies, and became
something of a bogeyman after his overwhelming defeat of Col.
Abraham Buford at the Battle of the Waxhaws. (Contrary to
urban legend, he was not nicknamed "Bloody Ban" until the 1950s.)
