Greetings to local homeschooling families!

Bakersfield HomeLearners is an inclusive support group for homeschooling families living in the Bakersfield, CA, area.

Our basic purpose is to provide fellowship, foster friendships, refresh veterans and empower newbies! We do that through park days, field trips, holiday parties and other social activities, as well as through conversations and information exchanged on the yahoogroup list.

Among us, you will find a variety of faiths and political beliefs, traditional home educators, Holt-inspired unschoolers, charter school members and private school program users, and independent homeschoolers. We create community through mutual respect -- and participation! All activities are organized by volunteer parents. We have no mandatory service requirements, but your ideas, invitations, RSVPs, helping hands, flexible attitude, and input are essential!

We are not an Independent Study Program (ISP), only a support group. Our attendees meet state education law via private school study programs, charter schools or PSA filing. We do not require membership forms or fees. HSLDA membership is not mandated. This is NOT a debating loop. The goal: Community! Lurking is discouraged.

We ask that if you wish to send an article regarding homeschooling, that you also include a personal opinion on that article. Please use good judgement when sending something into the list.
