Greetings to local Bakersfield Homeschooling families! On Bakersfield HomeLearner, you'll find local info, occasional articles on homeschooling, legal news, hand-selected unit studies and topical links. Our basic purpose however, is to provide fellowship, foster friendships, refresh veterans and empower newbies! =)

The homeschoolers on this list should be from the Bakersfield, CA area. We do learning theme days, park days, parties, fieldtrips and co-op days together. Most events will be week-day mornings or early afternoons so we minimize conflict with daily lessons or 'afterschool' activities.

Amongst us, there will be a variety of faiths and denominations, traditional home educators, Holt inspired families, charter school members and eclectics. I want us all to respect each other and the differences we have.

We are NOT an Independent Study Program (ISP). Our attendees meet the education law via church programs, christian ISP's, public ISP's, charter schools or R4 filing. NO TUITION! NO FORMS! NO MANDATORY MEETINGS or penalties! All activities are organized by volunteer parents;an attitude of mutual support is essential. NO mandatory service requirements, but your ideas, invitations, RSVP's, helping hands, flexible attitude, and imput are ESSENTIAL. HSLDA membership is not mandated. This is NOT a debating loop. The goal: Community! Lurking is discouraged. NO FLAMING, NO OBSCENITY!
