Backyard Boatbuilding 2
Backyard Boatbuilding is for the sharing of information about building or repairing a boat yourself.
George Buehler , a boat designer of some renown, is the philosophical inspiration for this group.
This is a full service group, once you’re a member all the membership areas are open to you. So come on in, sit awhile and let's talk about building boats!
**We've had to set the groups options to include an approval process for messages from new members because of being SPAMed by off topic posts. Usually your first on-topic message post will be acted on within just a few hours.***
We have set up an overflow group for construction photo albums at
Backyard Boatbuilding 3 to allow members to share details of their projects.
Today's pic shows a nearly completed hydraulic tank. In addition to adding a baffle, several other upgrades complete the project. A stainless plate was fabricated to cover the hole made to install the baffle and will serve as a cleanout in the future. A fill assembly with lockable breather/cap will filter air going into the tank and a fill strainer prevents large particles from entering. This assembly also includes a dipstick and a cap safety chain. On the suction end of the tank, I added a sight gauge level indicator with a thermometer. I also installed a high capacity suction strainer with a 3 psi bypass. The original tank only had one mounting foot on each side in the middle. I added more. Then the tank was cleaned up and painted. Before final assembly, the tank was thoroughly washed in diesel and the interior wiped down with a lint free rag. Next comes an engine guard rail that will double as a support stand for the hydraulic tank. -Dan
