COLEMAN HIKING BOOTS, Excursion Series
BY BILL BUTT
OR
January 02, 2012

TESTER INFORMATION

NAME: Bill Butt
EMAIL: tinman1241@...
AGE: 55
LOCATION: Streetsboro, Ohio
GENDER: M
HEIGHT: 6' 1" (1.85 m)
WEIGHT: 214 lb (97.10 kg)

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Manufacturer:  Coleman
Year of Manufacture: not sure
Manufacturer's Website: www.coleman.com
MSRP: US $24.99 to $39
Listed Weight:  Only listed as "Light-Weight."
Measured Weight: About 3 pounds (1362 grams)
Other details: Leather and man-made uppers with thick, durable, well-treaded
sole.  These are tan, brown and black.  I chose High-tops so as to have ankle
support.

FIELD USE

In July of 2011 after spending the day working with special needs teens at a
Horse Camp, explaining and demonstrating the finer points of mucking horse
stalls, I had the sole of my old hiking boots come off in my hand while removing
them before getting into my car.  I was slightly panicked.  I had three more
days of Horse Camp and a caving trip with my Cub Scouts coming up.
I stopped on my way home to see what K-Mart had to offer in the way of new
boots.  I was surprised to find they had boots on sale.  I picked up this pair
of Coleman boots. My last pair of Coleman's had served me pretty well, may their
soles rest in peace.  Deciding on a pair, I proceeded to the checkout and paid
my $20 plus tax and headed home.  With so many seams on the uppers and the
knowledge that they would be Oh-So near to horse manure for the next 3 days I
sprayed them with CampDry water proofing and left them to dry overnight.
The next three days of mucking stalls and two mile hikes with the teens proved
no problem for my new boots.  A good brushing with a stiff scrub brush kept them
looking pretty new.
In August of 2011, I laced up by boots and traveled to Laurel Caverns in PA, to
take part in a day of caving with my Cub Scouts.  My boots carried me through
mud, over sandstone and into water during our three hour tour of the caverns.
My feet remained dry and comfortable in my new boots, but the outsides of the
boots were covered red mud (red from the high iron content in the soil.).  I was
not worried about the mud, I just let it dry good, banged them together to knock
off the large clumps and then gave them a good brushing with the stiff scrub
brush I mentioned earlier.  Then a quick wipe with wet paper towels made them
almost like new.  But, I knew where they had been.
Since August these boots have been served me well on about 20 miles of hikes,
provided comfortable footwear for several Cub Scout meetings and kept my feet
dry and warm on  two trips to the zoo.

SUMMARY

These boots are my choice of footwear if I am going to be doing any walking
and/or it is raining or snowing. They have served me very well indeed.  If these
boots ever wear out , Coleman will be my first choice to replace them.

THINGS I LIKE

1) Very durable
2) Clean up easily
3) Sturdy sole
4) Affordable

THINGS I DON'T LIKE

These boots provide everything I need based on what I use them for, so there is
nothing I don't like about them.

OF NOTE

Please note I could not find these boots at the Coleman Website.  However, they
seem to be available at many, many websites as well as Kmart.

PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL IN FULL. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT!

Thanks for your Owner's Review. It has been added to the Owner Review Queue and
will be picked up by an Edit Moderator soon. If you are new to
BackpackGearTest.org, welcome to the community! The Editors will work with you,
within their own time constraints, to get your first two Owner Reviews approved
and upload in a timely manner. Do not worry if nothing happens with it for
several days. All our Editors are volunteers and your report will be subject to
an official edit within fourteen days. If you have not had a response from an
Edit Moderator via the Yahoo Groups list within this timeframe, please let me
know directly at jdeben(at)hotmail.com

To assist in this process, if this is your first Owner Review we ask that you
post only ONE Owner Review for edit at a time. Our experience is that it is more
efficient for both the Editors and
yourself, if you post your first review, have it edited, approved and uploaded
before you post your second and subsequent reviews.

Once your first two Owner Reviews have been approved and you have submitted your
Tester Agreement you will be eligible to start applying for Tests. If you'd like
more assistance or guidance with the process you can request a mentor by sending
an email to Jenn K., the mentor coordinator, at mentor (at)
backpackgeartest.org.

You may receive edits or comments from other members of the group. These edits
and comments, while not official, should be considered carefully, and if you
find them substantial, revise and re-post your review. Incorporating member
edits and re-submitting to the list
will usually result in a better review, as well as making things easier for the
official Editor. Please put REVISED in the subject line of your re-submitted
review if you take this route or make any
changes to your review BEFORE the review has been taken by an Edit Moderator.

Additionally, it is important for you to monitor the Yahoo Groups list to keep
track of the progress of your Owner Review. Once an Editor has taken your OR and
made the necessary edits they will post their comments to the list with EDIT in
the subject line. Once you have incorporated these edits into your review please
use REPOST in the subject line. When your OR has been approved by the Editor
they will use APPROVED in the subject line.

If you'd like to keep track of the progress of your OR while it's in the edit
queue, the entire Owner Review Queue is posted to this yahoo group list on
either Thursdays or Fridays.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask via the list or
contact me directly.

Subject: New to BGT? Great! Please read this..

Hello new folks,

We are super glad you are here and hope you will be joining the ranks of our
established gear testers very soon. Below you will find some must do's if you
want your Owner Review (OR) added to our Edit Queue. These points will make
your life and the lives of those involved with the OR process much easier. We
all appreciate you taking time to review and apply this info. BEFORE submitting
your first OR.

1. READ the "How to Become a Tester" information on the
www.backpackgeartest.org website carefully. I know at first glance the
documentation seems like a major uphill climb but as with all summits, the work
you put in ahead of time will definitely pay off as you work your way through
our process.

2. We strongly encourage new writers to write about, A. a simple piece of gear
and B. and item with which you have lots of trail time. By lots we mean a season
or more involving several days/nights in the field. Use around town, in your
backyard, etc. does not count as field time.

3. ORs will NOT be accepted into the Owner Review Edit Queue if they do not
clearly state the number of days/nights you have used the item. Given the nature
of an Owner Review and the possible amount of years you could have owned the
item we understand it may not be possible for you to recall the exact number of
uses so an estimate is fine.

4. ORs will also not be accepted if you do not include your real full name and
email address in the Tester Bio Section.

5. We highly recommend including at least one picture in your Owner Review as
well. Although not mandatory in the first OR, pictures are required for the 2nd
OR and all reviews of test gear so adding one or more to OR #1 is good practice.

6. Please make sure you spell check and proofread your work before posting and
reposting to the Yahoo group. You will avoid a ton of silly errors and time if
this is diligently done.

7. When you are ready to post your OR to the Yahoo group for editing please also
create an HTML version. This version should be posted in the TEST Folder on the
www.backpackgeartest.org website. Include a link to the HTML version at the top
of the OR you submit to the Yahoo group so your editor knows where to look for
it. You will not be able to proceed through the edit process until the HTML
version has been uploaded to the Test Folder. If you need assistance with
converting your report to HTML please see our Report Writer on the main BGT
website.

8. When posting an OR for the first time please use this format in the subject
line…
Owner Review: Company & Product – Your Name
Here's a current example from one of our veteran testers …
OR - Injinji Tetratsok Liner - Kathy Waters

9. When REPOSTING, meaning after your OR has been taken and edited by an editor
AND you have made all the requested corrections, please use this format in the
subject line…
REPOST: OR - Company & Product – Your Name
Ex: REPOST: OR - Sea to Summit Silk Liner - Shawn Wakefield

10. If you will be off hiking, visiting your grandchildren, having a baby,
heading an expedition to each of the 7 summits or otherwise away from email
access for more than two or three days it is very much appreciated if you post
a note to the Yahoo group to let us know what is going on. At BGT we call this
an Out of Pocket notice or OOP. This quick note lets us know you are still
around and interested in BGT but you are away from email contact for a
predetermined length of time. Please include your name, the date you are leaving
and returning, and what ORs are affected by your absence.

Again, welcome to BGT and I hope you find this message informative. Please
direct any questions to the BackpackGearTest Yahoo group.

Cordially,
Mrs. Jamie DeBenedetto

Welcome to BackpackGearTest.org Bill

Thank you for your Owner Review and your interest in becoming a tester.
Unfortunately, it looks like this item is not a current enough product and you
do not have enough backpacking use with it so it cannot be accepted for editing
at this time. It is not uncommon for new writers to need a bit more help before
their first OR is ready for the editing process. I've been informed that you
have just recently started with our Mentoring Program. Very good choice. I'm
sure your mentor will get you squared away with what we are looking for at BGT.
Our standards are high but that benefits us all. We look forward to seeing
another review from you in the near future.

Frances,

Welcome to BackpackGearTest.org, and thanks for your Owner Review. This is an
excellent start at a first OR, and I look forward to working with you to get it
ready for posting.

My edits below are in standard BGT format:

EDIT (all caps) – required change
Edit (initial cap) – suggested change or request for clarification
Comment – just that, no change required

After revising you need to do two things. Post the html version of the Report in
the Tests/Owner Reviews folder on BackpackGearTest.org, and post the plain text
version here, with "Repost," the product name, and your name in the subject
line, and with a tinyurl link to the html version in the body of your message.

Please note that while photos aren't required in a first Owner Review, we do
require them in all subsequent ORs and in all Test Reports. I encourage you to
include one in this Report.

Cheers, Richard Lyon
BGT Editor

EDIT: You need a title for your review, at the top:

Patagonia Women's Down Sweater
Owner Review by Frances Penn
December 23, 2011

<<Date: December 23, 2011>>
EDIT: Delete this line, as the date should be part of the title.

<<E-mail: fpenn@...>>
Edit: You may wish to write this out ["fpenn at . . .] to discourage spammers.

<<Location: Costa Mesa, California>>
EDIT: Add "USA" at the end. A BGT convention, as not all of our members and
writers are American.

<<I have been backpacking for four years mostly on long weekends in Southern
California with one or two week long trips per year in the Sierras.>>
Edit: one- or two-week [with hyphens]

<< The jacket has a lightweight, windproof and water-resistant shell with a high
tear-strength and a Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish. >>
Edit: I'd delete the parenthetical, as you define DWR earlier in the Review.

<<The shell and lining are 1.4-oz 20-denier 100% polyester ripstop with a
Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish. The insulation is 800-fill-power
premium European goose down.>>
EDIT: This same information is in the preceding paragraph. Delete it in one
place or the other.

<<3-day, 2 night trip to Big Pine Lakes area of the Sierras September 2011.>>
EDIT: Please add the temperatures encountered on this trip.

<<The nights were 32 degrees and the daytime temps were 55-65 degrees. >>
EDIT: Two BGT conventions: never use "degrees" when reporting temperatures, and
Fahrenheit and Celsius are both required. 32 F (0 C); 55-65 F (13-18 C).
Please fix all of the temperatures reported in your Review. By the way, there's
a conversion table on BackpackGearTest.org, and at the bottom of that page are
listed many of our conventions.

<< 2-day, 2 night trip to Joshua Tree December 2011.>>
EDIT: Joshua Tree, California [Once again, for the benefit of our non-US
readers]
Edit: 2-night [with a hyphen]

<<Since it is only 11 oz and highly compressible, >>
EDIT: Please add the metric conversion

<< and did not add any discomfort to my pack.>>
EDIT: I'm not quite sure what you mean here. I do know that your pack is
insensitive. Maybe "and did not cause me any discomfort from a bulge in my
pack.

<<I was able to stuff it into my down sleeping bag compression sack that had a
little extra room so I didn't have to allow space for the jacket in my pack.>>
EDIT: allow extra space [It was in your pack, so you did allow some space.]

<<I tried stuffing the jacket into the pocket and did not like the result. >>
EDIT: What didn't you like? Please explain here and later in this paragraph.

Hi Derek,

Thanks for another hammock review. You are making me want to give them a try.
Maybe next summer. I have a few edits for you and one especially needs to be
addressed before you place the corrected review here:

Reviews > Shelters > Hammocks > Planet Hammock Single

Also on my screen your "TESTER INFORMATION" is chopped off by the top photo.

Ray

***MANUFACTURER Planet Hammock, Wintec Trading, Netherlands

EDIT: Just Wintec Trading as Planet Hammock is just the front end, like all
their other "Planet" stuff

***MSRP: US $45.00

EDIT: where are you getting the MSRP? I can't find it on their web site.

***The manufacture also has a page listing safety warnings.

EDIT: please remove the extraneous link. We are only allowed to have the
manufacturer's top level URL linked.

*** The hammock coms with two short lengths of rope

EDIT: comes

***This hammock comes in a variety of colors; I tested the camouflage pattern
version.

EDIT: as this is not a BGT test please reword this to say you "used" or "own"
the camouflage pattern version. If this is not a hammock that you own and you
are just testing it for Planet Hammock then it can't be reviewed according to
the BGT rules.

*** and read *yawn* boring books on leadership.

Thanks Ray!

I've made the edits. It looks like they recently updated their website and the

Alright, here is my second Owner Review! Thanks ahead of time for editing. The
html version is at http://tinyurl.com/7c2hq8g

Earbags - Outdoor Earbags Fleece Dark Color
Owner Review by Erin Foudy
12/29/2011

Tester Info:
Name: Erin Foudy
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Height: 5'11'' (1.8 m)
Weight: 150 lbs (68 kg)
Email address: erinfoudyATyahooDOTcom
City, State, Country: Tucson, Arizona, USA

Backpacking Background:
I started backpacking while working for the National Park service ten years ago.
I have been a backcountry ranger/law enforcement ranger and served on search and
rescue crews. I typically take two or more camping trips a month, year round.
I appreciate light weight, but am not obsessed by it. I often carry a 30 lb (14
kg) pack and stay out from three to nine days at a time. I also enjoy day trips
with only water on my back. I take trips to Colorado and Montana in the
summertime and enjoy the outdoors there as well.

Info and specs:
Manufacturer: Earbags
Year of Manufacture: 2005
URL: http://www.earbags.com
Listed Weight: Not listed
Actual Weight: 14g
Size: Small
Available Sizes: Small, Medium, Large
Color: Black
Available Colors: Black, Brown, Forest Green, Dark Grey, Navy Blue
MSRP: 12,50 pounds
Sizing Chart (at http://www.earbags.com):
Measure the height of your ear:
Small - 6 cm
Medium - 6 cm - 7cm
Large - 7 cm -

Description:
The Outdoor Earbags come in a small red stuff sack.  The writing on the stuff
sack reads that they are bandless ear warmers.  There is a drawstring cord to
tighten and loosen the sack.  The warmers themselves are black and made of
Fleece.  The Earbags logo can be seen on the inside of the earbag's white
colored Fleece.  They are an oval shape, contoured just right for an ear, with a
little pocket that snaps comfortably around the ear.  They fit well, and the
weight is unnoticeable.

In the Field:
Cayonlands National Park:
   Temperatures: 30 F to 80 F (-1 C to 27 C)
   Elevation: 4800 ft to 6800 ft. (1463 m to 2073 m)
Duration of Trip: 3 separate 9 day backpack

Mt. Whitney:
   Temperature: 20 F to 75 F (-7 C to 24 C)
   Elevation: 10700 ft to 14494 (3261 m to 4418 m)
   Duration of Trip: 1 day

Sequoia National Park:
   Temperature: 20 F to 75 F 20 F to 75 F (-7 C to 24 C)
   Elevation: 6730 F to 12300 F (2051 m to 3749 m)
Duration of Trip: 9 day backpack

Performance:
Canyonlands National Park:
I used the Earbags most nights and early mornings during my backcountry ranger
duties in the Maze district of the park.  The Maze is the least accessible
district of Canyonlands, so I spent extended time in the backcountry every
trip.  I liked that I could wear the Earbags instead of a hat or beanie and that
they helped to keep my ears warm and cozy.

Mt Whitney:
The Earbags were a great wind blocker on this trip.  The weather fluctuated a
lot and I wore them on and off all day long.  When I didn't need my Earbags it
was easy to store them in a pocket for later use.  My one complaint is that if I
brushed the Earbags with my hand while pulling my hair back the Earbags
occasionally fell off.

Summary:
Overall the Earbags are a good buy.  My ears get cold and start to hurt easily,
and the Earbags help to keep me warm with no discomfort.  I like that they are
lightweight, small, and convenient.  The price isn't bad either.

Things I like:
1. Warm
2. Lightweight
3. Small
4. Good wind blocker

Things I don't like:
1. Quick to fall off if they rub against anything.

Location: Costa Mesa, California USA
I have been backpacking for four years mostly on long weekends in Southern
California with one- or two-week long trips per year in the Sierras. My daypack
weight is usually 15 lbs. and my backpack weight is usually 28-30 lbs. I am a
tent camper and have experienced snow camp once, all night rain twice and heavy
winds but mostly fair weather.
Product Info:
Manufacturer: Patagonia Year of Manufacture: 2010
URL: http://www.patagonia.com
Model: Women's Down Sweater Jacket
Color: Cerise [bright pink] [Current colors available: Deep Plum, Black, Fennel,
Lagoon, Pearl, Mango, Bougainvillea]
Materials: Lightweight, windproof and water-resistant 1.4-oz 20-denier 100%
recycled polyester ripstop shell with a high tear-strength Deluge® w/DWR
(durable water repellent) finish filled with 800-fill power premium European
goose down.
Size: Women's Medium [Size XS-XL available] Listed Weight: 11.3 oz. [320 g]
Measured Weight: 11 oz. [312 g]
Description: The cerise color I own is similar to the Bougainvillea currently
available but a few shades lighter. There are two zippered handwarmer pockets,
and one interior zippered stretch mesh pocket which doubles as a stuff sack and
has a carabiner clip-in loop. The nylon-bound elastic cuffs and drawcord hem
seal in warmth and keep drafts out. This jacket can be worn as an outer layer or
mid-layer in colder climates. This jacket does not come with a stuff sack. The
back pocket is intended as the temporary stuff sack. Patagonia advises the
jacket should not be stored stuffed into the back pocket.
MSRP: $200.00 US
Field Info:
Locations where tests were conducted:

Location: Big Pine Lakes area of the Sierras September 2011.
Elevation: 10,000 ft to 11,500 ft (3,050 m to 3,500 m)
Duration: 3-days, 2-nights
Conditions: Rain and wind
Temperatures: 30s F to 40s (1 C to 4C)
I wore the jacket at night in camp over my thermal and light fleece base layer.
Since it was raining and windy, I wore my rain jacket on top. I was toasty warm
but did not overheat. When I removed my rain jacket to get into my sleeping bag,
I was happy to find I did not perspire under all those layers and the cuffs had
kept my base layers dry from the windy rain. This jacket is warm, the fit is
comfortable and I look forward to many more years of enjoyment.
Location: Dollar Lake in the San Gorgonio Wilderness September 2011
Elevation: 9,500 ft to 11,000 ft (2,895 m to 3352 m)
Duration: 3-days, 2-nights
Conditions: sunny but cool
Temperatures: 30s F to 50s (1C to 10C)
I wore the jacket at night in camp with a lightweight thermal, a heavier
thermal, and light fleece underneath. I may not have needed all of these layers,
but I am not a fan of being cold. The jacket kept me toasty warm. I had my rain
jacket handy to use as an extra layer in case of wind or rain but it was not
needed on that trip.
Location: Joshua Tree December 2011
Elevation: 5,000 ft 1,524 m)
Duration: 2-days, 2-nights
Conditions: cloudy and windy
Temperatures: 30s F to 50s (1C to 10C)
I wore the jacket over a lightweight thermal base layer, a heavier weight
thermal and a lightweight fleece. There was ice in my water bottle in the
morning. Because it was windy during the day, I wore it to hike for a few hours
until the wind died down and the sun and hiking warmed us. I was very happy
that I did not overheat wearing the jacket for hiking. I was worried I would
snag the jacket on the plants we were hiking past and a few small snags did
occur. I removed the jacket as soon as I was warm enough to minimize the
damage. Since it is only 11 oz (312 g) and highly compressible, it fit easily
into my daypack without being stuffed into its back pocket. I did not notice
any additional weight or bulk in my pack.
Summary:
I am very happy with the jacket's performance, the comfortable feel of the
material, the non-bulky feel and the appearance. The medium is a bit large on me
in the torso, but I wanted to wear multiple layers underneath if necessary and
not feel restrictive and this was accomplished. I was able to stuff it into my
down sleeping bag compression sack that had a little extra room so I didn't have
to allow space for the jacket in my pack. I especially like the lack of bulk as
compared to my other down jackets that feel like I am wearing a puffy pillow for
a jacket.
The jacket does not come with a stuff sack. Its rear stuff pocket is intended
as a temporary stuff sack. I tried stuffing the jacket into the rear pocket and
found the result to be too bulky. I contacted Patagonia to see if I could
purchase a small stuff sack for this or another jacket and was instructed to use
the rear stuff pocket turned inside out as a temporary stuff sack. I tried this
method and the results were too bulky. I achieved better results folding and
rolling the jacket and then stuffing it into my pack.
Pros:
Warmth to weight is awesome
Lightweight and highly compressible
Non-bulky feel. I almost forget I have the jacket on it is so lightweight.
Comfortable fit for ease of layering
Attractive style and color

Cons:
Expensive
Rear stuff pocket zipper could be a little larger to protect the jacket during
the stuffing process
Sizes run big to allow for layering. Consider purchasing one size smaller if
you want a close fit.

Frances,

Well done, just a few more changes and this Report will be ready for uploading.
Before I can approve that, however, I do need to see the html version, so let's
address that first.

The html version, preferably with photographs, needs to be posted in the
Tests/Owner Reviews folder on BackpackGearTest.org. To do this you need to join
the Yahoo Group, log in [the tests folder isn't accessible until you log in], go
to the Tests/Owner Reviews folder, click the "Upload File" button, and upload
the Report by following the prompts there [basically posting the html text and
photos, and giving the file a name]. Use of BGT's Report Writer facilitates
this process considerably, and there are a number of WYSIWYG
(what-you-see-is-what-you-get) applications that can be downloaded free. I use
and recommend Kompozer.

After uploading the report, copy the html address into your browser, go to
http://www.tinyurl.com, and create the tinyurl for inclusion in the posting of
the plain text of the report to the list.

I am far from expert when it comes to computer matters, so if you need more help
make a posting to our sister Yahoo group, BGTUpload Help, and one of our
tech-savvy members can help.

Edits in the same format as before: EDIT is a required change, Edit a suggested
change or request for clarification, and Comment is a comment – no change
required. After revising, upload the html version to the Tests/OR folder and
repost the plain text, with the tinyurl link, to this list. Put REPOST, the
product name, and your name in the subject line.

Cheers, Richard

<<My daypack weight is usually 15 lbs. and my backpack weight is usually 28-30
lbs. >>
EDIT: 15 lb [7 kg]; 28-30 lb [13-14 kg] [All BGT weights and measures are
singular, with no period. And metric equivalent is always required. As the
Imperial is approximate, the metric should be too.

<<Size: Women's Medium [Size XS-XL available] Listed Weight: 11.3 oz. [320 g]
Measured Weight: 11 oz. [312 g]>>
EDIT: As above. Please delete the periods after "oz"

<<This jacket is warm, the fit is comfortable and I look forward to many more
years of enjoyment.>>
Edit: In writing this you have added commentary after the description of each
trip. So long as you don't confuse things, this format is acceptable. I think,
however, that the second clause "and I look forward to many more years of
enjoyment" would be more appropriate if made at the end of the report. It
touches on durability as well as warmth, and few of us can safely comment on
durability after one trip. This is more style than substance, so it's up to you.

<<Duration: 3-days, 2-nights>>
Edit: The hyphens are grammatically correct only when nouns are used as
adjectives {e g, "2-night trip"]. Not needed here or in your Joshua Tree
section.

<<Temperatures: 30s F to 50s (1C to 10C)>>
EDIT 1: Two formatting issues – need the F after "50s" and a space in the
Celsius measurements [1 C to 10 C]
EDIT 2: The Fahrenheit and Celsius don't match. 30s to 50s F is 1 to 15 C; -1 to
10 C is 34-50 F. Please clarify, here and in an identical measurement in your
Joshua Tree section.

<<so I didn't have to allow space for the jacket in my pack.>>
EDIT: allow extra space for the jacket

<< I contacted Patagonia to see if I could purchase a small stuff sack for this
or another jacket and was instructed to use the rear stuff pocket turned inside
out as a temporary stuff sack. >>
Comment: Many products don't come with stuff sacks, and many
manufacturer-provided stuff sacks are poor quality. If you'd like a separate
sack for this sweater, or some other product, I recommend that you buy a stuff
sack from one of the companies that specialize in them. For one thing, it's the
only way to ensure a waterproof sack.

<<Consider purchasing one size smaller if you want a close fit.>>
Edit: We editors immediately flag any use of the second person (you or your), as
BGT does not allow "projection" – speculating on another person's reaction. This
isn't projection and it's useful information, but remove all doubt by saying
something like "I recommend sizing down for a close fit." That would make it
clear that this is a recommendation based upon your experience rather than a
comment of general applicability.

[EDIT] You actually need to join the http://www.backpackgeartest.org/

upload your report there.) The rest of the instructions look fine.

Hello everybody,

My name is Jeremy Laporte. I used to do testing about 2 years ago. My last test
is this one.

http://www.backpackgeartest.org/reviews/Snow%20Gear/Snowshoes/Atlas%2011%20Snows\
hoes/Test%20Report%20by%20Jeremy%20R.%20Laporte/

I had to stop testing because of health conditions that prevented me from really
backpacking and camping.

Now that I'm feeling better I'm looking to go back to the hobby. This post is to
renew contact with the people at BGT and maybe having some senior member letting
me know what they expect from me.

I apologize if this message is not in the right place.

Sincerely,

Your recovery is great news. Welcome back.
The normal thing to do is to submit a couple of ORs to re-establish
yourself. Get writing! :-)

Hi Erin,

Thanks for the Owner Review, I shall be your editor for this one. Thanks for
putting the HTML version up right away. Here are your edits. After going through
them please repost here and put a corrected HTML version in the test folder.
(Delete the old one first.)

By the way it is nice to see that Arizona has another tall hiker gal. Our hard
working Owner Review queue manager Jamie D is south of you.

Ray

***Earbags - Outdoor Earbags Fleece Dark Color

EDIT: the title should just be Earbags, Outdoor Earbags

***Actual Weight:14g

EDIT: need the Imperial conversion and please put a space before the "g" (14 g)

***MSRP: Not listed

EDIT: from what I see they sell the Earbags themselves and list them as €12,50 I
see they do not sell to the US though.

*** The warmers themselves are black and made of Fleece.

EDIT: fleece (no cap)

The Earbags logo can be seen on the inside of the earbag's white colored Fleece.

EDIT: fleece (no cap) but the second Earbag does need one

***They are an oval shape, contoured just right for an ear,

EDIT: let's play it safe and say that it is "just right for my ear" to avoid
projection.

Duration of Trip: 3 separate 9 day backpack

EDIT: I think this should be "3 separate 9-day backpacking trips" even better
would be "Three 9-day backpacking trips"

*** during my backcountry ranger duties

Comment: my hat's off to you, thank you for your work

***The Earbags are so lightweight that it is easy to forget you are wearing them
at times.

EDIT: you need to keep the review in the first person. Please change "you are"
to "I am"

***This can be both a positive and a negative; positive in that they are almost
unnoticeable yet still keep you warm, and negative in that you forget you have
them on, and may inadvertently knock them off putting a pack on or messing with
your hair.

EDIT: same thing here.
